Offers replication flexibility across multiple environments, including local centers and secondary sites
It offers key features like any point-in-time recovery without needing scheduled snapshots. It allows for automated VM protection during processes like failover and testing, and it offers replication flexibility across multiple environments, including local centers and secondary sites. It also provides IP address management when network configurations differ across sites.

Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"When it comes to disaster recovery, this is one of the best solutions there is for EMC products."
"The generalization of the journals allows us to go back in time and choose the snapshot suitable for us. We can grab it as needed."
"The speed and the footprint the solution uses regarding storage are great."
"The solution is quite stable. We haven't experienced any kind of bug or glitch. We haven't experienced crashes."
"Dell RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines offers key features like any point-in-time recovery without needing scheduled snapshots."
"Continuous replication with lower RTO and RPO is the most innovative feature, and its tight integration with VMware for VMware VMs is also valuable."
"One person can do the whole implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of the solution."
"Overall the product is really good."
"I like the granularity of the checkpoints."
"Comparing to a regular backup solution, it reduces downtime by 95%."
"I've never had a solution that is this intensive and yet this easy to deploy."
"Zerto's single-click recovery solution offers exceptional recovery speed."
"It reduced the time for DR tests from the infrastructure side, and being able to get our work done in a matter of a couple of minutes so the app teams can get to work and can do their testing has been significant."
"The features I appreciate the most about HPE Zerto Software are the automated failover and orchestration, and then the journal for point-in-time recovery."
"One of the features I appreciate the most about the HPE Zerto Software is the simplicity of the replication, which allows the RPO to be in seconds rather than hours, which is what we were used to."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of upgrades."

Cons

"It would be good to have a critical application on the customer side."
"It can have better integration. It would be good if, in addition to VMware VM, it can also support other hypervisors. I also want to see support for Oracle databases. As of now, it supports only SQL and Exchange. It would be good to also support other databases."
"The solution could improve by being more easier to use. However, once you have used it for a while it becomes easier. Additionally, there could be better support and compatibility with management by having a command-line interface. This would be beneficial for the customers."
"It should have features for recovering a group of virtual machines and full-scale security. For recovering all the VMs at once, they don't have a GUI option, and we have to use the command line."
"This product is not as easy to use as some other solutions."
"The price of this product could be lower."
"In the next release of this software, I would like to see options that help to decrease the bandwidth required, such as compressing the data."
"The solution is not easy to use. It's actually quite hard. If it could be simplified it might be better for the end user."
"The quoting for the Cyber Vault was probably the stickiest part, as it had to be tailored to our size of company."
"I would suggest improving automatic updates. Their software requires updating level by level to keep it current. I was unaware that I was several versions behind, so I needed assistance to guide me to the current version."
"I have experienced some issues sometimes during upgrades."
"I have not seen any return on investment from HPE Zerto Software yet."
"The alerting has room for improvement as it is the biggest pain point with the software. It is so bad."
"I haven't been a super big fan of the support area. The support could really be better in terms of responsiveness. I've had some issues that took two or three days to get resolved. Once I got to the right person, they were resolved quickly, but it took a while to get to that person."
"Over my eight years working with HPE Zerto Software, I have experienced some downtime and crashes during upgrades."
"When it comes to failover tests, we would like to be able to take that extra step to shut things down and see what it looks like at the other site versus just doing it in a virtual environment."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This is not a very cheap solution and compared to others, it is expensive."
"There is a license required for this solution and the pricing depends on how many virtual machines you have."
"Pricing-wise, it is pretty much fair for any customer who only has a VMware environment. Licensing is based on the number of VMs that you want to protect at any given point in time. Licensing is not based on size."
"It was a part of a backup solution. So, it was free for us."
"This is an expensive product."
"The tool is expensive. If one means cheaply priced and ten means expensive, I rate the tool's price as a seven."
"I'd like to see better tiering for Zerto's pricing. We do multi-tier VMs. I don't think I should be paying a penalty and price for a tier-three VM where I don't need a really tight SLA like I do for a tier-one."
"The product's pricing is the one area where it is less competitive."
"It is not a bad pricing model."
"Zerto is not cheap but is an invaluable asset."
"It was a little higher. We were in a corporate agreement, and we had a software package that included RP for VM. It is easy to compare pricing when you are already in a corporate agreement. Zerto lost on the pricing scorecard."
"The licensing is a little bit steep, but there is some value that you do get for it as well."
"From a pricing standpoint, there is value in it without question. However, it can become quite expensive when you start looking at the number of workloads you have in the environment and what you would like to do."
"Pricing is adequate at the standard of the product, but there could be "always" some improvement. We would like to see a consumption model that would charge in a DR scenario, where you're failing over and consuming those resources, instead of a per-protected-node model."
