How are customer service and support?
We've never reached out to technical support. I can't speak to how well they assist their clients.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We did previously use a VM application and Zerto. However, we haven't used anything else.
We cannot use EMC RecoverPoint when we use cross-hypervisor platforms, like Hyper-V to VMware, VMware to Hyper-V, et cetera. We can, however, use it in Zerto. Also, Zerto has multi-tenant capabilities. EMC RecoverPoint does not, but EMC RecoverPoint is better in that it has better results in one usage. This is the best feature that EMC RecoverPoint has.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is quite complex. It's not straightforward at all.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
In comparison to other solutions, like Zerto, the pricing is quite high. It's not the cheapest solution.
What other advice do I have?
We are a service provider and we used to use EMC RecoverPoint. However, we couldn't sell it for our infrastructure because it does not have multi-tenant capabilities. It is just for enterprises. That's why we dropped it.
I would rate the solution at around seven out of ten. If it was easier to use, had multi-tenancy, or was able to be used across hypervisor applications I might rate it a bit higher.

Function Leader at NewWave Computing
Ensures a return on investment but is expensive
Pros and Cons
- "The product's initial setup phase was quite easy to install."
- "The solution's technical team has enough skills, but the process can get complicated with the time you get connected with the L3 support."
What is our primary use case?
My client was using the product to migrate his data center from one geographical area to another. We had to move the hardware to a new geographical area and move the VMs on the PCs, so it was used to migrate these VMs.
What is most valuable?
I heard from my team that the tool is quite useful, as you can do things much faster and better.
What needs improvement?
The solution's technical team has enough skills, but the process can get complicated with the time you get connected with the L3 support.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Dell RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines for six to seven years. My company operates as an integrator and reseller of the tool.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
In terms of stability, some customers were happy while some were not. There was one customer who had a constant reboot of one of its nodes in his cluster. Dell tried hard to fix that solution, but that was not possible, and so it isolated the node.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is an easily scalable solution.
I cater to all types of customers' needs, from enterprises to small-sized businesses.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support for the solution has been satisfactory. I rate the technical support a seven out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
How was the initial setup?
The product's initial setup phase was quite easy to install.
I am not a technical person. I don't have hands-on experience with the product's deployment phase.
What was our ROI?
Customers are experiencing an ROI from the tool's use, but I will not be able to quantify that since it depends and varies from customer to customer.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The tool is expensive. If one means cheaply priced and ten means expensive, I rate the tool's price as a seven.
What other advice do I have?
In terms of price, I wouldn't want to compare Dell RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines with any other solution because it is part of Dell VxRail. I think the customer buys Dell RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines as part of Dell VxRail's license. About four of these DRM licenses are offered as part of the bundle.
One is required to maintain the solution, especially for support, upgrades, and updates. Whether one person or more is required to maintain the tool depends on the environment and the number of nodes that the customer has, but I think it is pretty easy. Not many resources are required.
I have no idea if the tool has any AI features.
What I heard from the team is that they had compared SRM with DRM, and they realized that the latter was easy to use, especially with the support they received from Dell during the whole migration process. The team was quite happy with the tool.
I rate the tool a seven out of ten.

Solution Architect, IT Consultant at Merdasco - Rayan Merdas Data Prosseccing
An efficient, journal-based replication system providing disaster recovery for organizations of all sizes
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable feature is that it is journal-based and you don't have to replicate a lot of data."
- "In the next release of this software, I would like to see options that help to decrease the bandwidth required, such as compressing the data."
What is our primary use case?
Our primary use case is protecting data on our virtual machines. Most of our projects are related to data protection and compared to other native products, this solution offers better protection. We also use it for LAN data protection, which is very important for many industries.
I have had projects using RecoverPoint for replicating data. We often implement it for disaster recovery because there are many unexpected problems that can occur and you have to find the best way to protect your data.
How has it helped my organization?
This solution can be used for entry-level, mid-range, and high-end storage, which means that we can offer it to any of our customers. Most of the solutions that we offer depend on the customer's budget, as well as the reliability of the program.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is that it is journal-based and you don't have to replicate a lot of data. It will replicate freshly-created data and not what is unneeded. This feature is helpful for many customers because it uses minimal bandwidth, which is very important.
RecoverPoint has several plugins for integrating with other software applications. Using them makes application protection maintenance easier.
RecoverPoint has several plugins for integrating with other software applications. Using them makes application protection maintenance easier.
What needs improvement?
This product is not as easy to use as some other solutions.
In the future, I would like to see this solution to be easier to use and deploy.
More customers would be attracted to this solution if it were cheaper in price.
It would be helpful if this solution also worked on other types of SAS products. There are many types of these products available and it is not possible to replicate all of them. If would be great to have a unique solution for replicating data across all storage.
In the next release of this software, I would like to see options that help to decrease the bandwidth required, such as compressing the data.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for more than five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This is a stable solution, which is very important for our customers.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
With respect to scalability, I have not yet had to replicate data across more than three sites. Looking around, I have found that there are only two or three solutions for replicating data between four data centers. I think that RecoverPoint is enough for most customers, as it replicates data across two sites or three sites.
Most of my customers that use replication solutions are big companies that have between 500 and 20,000 employees. This software is not cheap so we expect that the data being protected is important. These types of recovery solutions are design for such companies. The users of this solution are typically IT managers and I normally deal with IT departments.
How are customer service and technical support?
As I live in Iran, I do not have access to EMC support directly. I can say, however, that I use a free forum on the internet that is related to EMC. They are one of the best and most key players in this area and I have heard from friends in other countries that EMC support is very helpful. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to work directly with them.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Most software storage solutions have data replication features. One of these is Hitachi TrueCopy. I prefer to use RecoverPoint over these native solutions.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is not simple when compared to other solutions. There are a lot of options available for replicating data but I can say that if you work with this software, it is a very good experience.
It took less than three days to deploy, but most of the time is required in order to make sure that the data replicated correctly. This is normal for solutions of this type because there are many options and many things involved when using replication software. It is affected by many parameters such as bandwidth, connectivity, availability, performance, and so on.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This is not a very cheap solution and compared to others, it is expensive.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
RecoverPoint is integrated with EMC and the most suitable, so I did not continue alternatives.
What other advice do I have?
RecoverPoint is a total solution for replication data. When it comes to disaster recovery, this is one of the best solutions there is for EMC products. I would not hesitate to implement this solution because it integrates well and has been a real savior.
The product is very handy for EMC and storage administrators.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

We did not use another solution prior to this one.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is of this solution simple.
The deployment took no more than between one and two months.
What about the implementation team?
An integrator from EMC assisted us with our implementation.

What other advice do I have?
This solution is excellent.
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Operates in real-time, ensuring that changes to virtual machines are continuously captured
Pros and Cons
- "One of the standout features of Dell RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines is its real-time data protection capability."
- "The configuration process seems a bit challenging, and the installation takes a bit longer than expected."
What is most valuable?
One of the standout features of Dell RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines is its real-time data protection capability. The tool operates in real-time, ensuring that changes to virtual machines are continuously captured, which is crucial for minimizing downtime and potential data loss. This means that in the event of a disaster or data loss, recovery can be achieved with precision, down to specific points in time. The solution provides both local and remote data protection, facilitating communication and safeguarding against issues like data corruption. With a focus on optimizing RPO and RTO, RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines emerges as a comprehensive and singular solution for organizations seeking robust data protection and disaster recovery measures.
What needs improvement?
While Dell RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines offers a solid solution for our local and remote data protection needs, there are a couple of areas that could be improved. The configuration process seems a bit challenging, and the installation takes a bit longer than expected. Additionally, the user interface could be more user-friendly to enhance the overall user experience. In terms of cost, the pricing is a bit on the higher side, especially for a company of our size. It would be great to see some adjustments in pricing or perhaps more flexible options. Additionally, Dell could improve its service by implementing a more automated and centralized solution for IP connectivity issues. Offering additional services like remote system location, recovery, and repair could provide valuable support to customers, even with an added service charge. This approach would streamline software-related issue resolution remotely. Dell could extend similar remote solutions to its partners, fostering stronger partnerships. For hardware-related problems, ensuring a quick supply of similar SKU stock could lead to swift resolutions within a short timeframe, aligning with the industry trend of remote software support and rapid hardware response.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Both the hardware and software are scalable, allowing for easy upgrades and improvements. This scalability means Dell can sell software with added features for the next five to six years. Whether it is for an Android or iOS cell phone or a similar solution, Dell can offer a scalable and continuously upgradable recovery option for customers.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is on the expensive side.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I would rate Dell RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines as a ten out of ten.
