Offers replication flexibility across multiple environments, including local centers and secondary sites
It offers key features like any point-in-time recovery without needing scheduled snapshots. It allows for automated VM protection during processes like failover and testing, and it offers replication flexibility across multiple environments, including local centers and secondary sites. It also provides IP address management when network configurations differ across sites.

Technical support has improved my data management process but I encounter GUI and cost challenges
The solution is available in the Azure Marketplace, but approaching directly is more cost-effective. The Marketplace approach incurs additional platform and reporting costs. We initially built Rubrik at host level and DB level. We encountered latency issues when reverting back, with numerous snapshots available. This resulted in increased costs and occupied spaces. I performed manual deletion of snapshots and verified with the Rubrik team for confirmation. The GUI reporting functionality lacks flexibility. For instance, obtaining specific server reports considering drive space and backup quantities is not possible, as it only provides overall reporting.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"One person can do the whole implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of the solution."
"The solution is quite stable. We haven't experienced any kind of bug or glitch. We haven't experienced crashes."
"Continuous replication with lower RTO and RPO is the most innovative feature, and its tight integration with VMware for VMware VMs is also valuable."
"RecoverPoint replicates workloads fast."
"RecoverPoint replicates workloads fast."
"One of the standout features of Dell RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines is its real-time data protection capability."
"Point-in-time recovery and ease of deployment are valuable."
"The product's initial setup phase was quite easy to install."
"The main benefit is that we are secured in terms of workloads. We know that if we need to restore any VMs, or even any files inside a VM, that we will succeed 100 percent. This means that we don't need to spend much time administering the backup environment because we know it is self-healing and efficient. So, we are spending that time on something else, which is always a plus."
"We had some VMware issue as VMware did some changes on the AHCI drivers. Rubrik saved our environment those times."
"I would estimate that Rubrik recovery testing saves us 80% in time as compared to our prior solution."
"What I like about Rubrik is that you can back up to the cloud. It is a different kind of backup where you're not archiving the tape. Rubrik is a physical appliance. It is a dedicated appliance to which you can back up, and you can also back up to another device. So, you can back up to Rubrik and then to another device. If you have more than one site, you can set up Rubrik on site A and also on site B. You can back up to the Rubrik on site A and then replicate that data to the Rubrik on site B."
"Mounting recent backups to create new servers rather than cloning servers in VMware drastically cut down required time."
"It has a single pane of glass interface."
"Live Mount is where we do the majority of our big recoveries, unless it is a file recovery. A file recovery takes a few minutes to restore to where the file in the event a file was accidentally deleted by a user, etc. There has been at least a 90 percent reduction in recovery time based on our previous solution, from the need to recover something to when it's actually recovered went from hours to minutes."
"Time dedicated to backup was drastically reduced, with reduced infrastructure complexity and easy, fast restores."

Cons

"It can have better integration. It would be good if, in addition to VMware VM, it can also support other hypervisors. I also want to see support for Oracle databases. As of now, it supports only SQL and Exchange. It would be good to also support other databases."
"Although we can change the IP address, it would be good to have some other sort of orchestration to make life easier to manage when we failover."
"The biggest challenge we faced was attempting replication between two different kinds of storage systems, like IBM on one side and Dell EMC storage systems on the other, before opting for VPLEX."
"The solution could improve by being more easier to use. However, once you have used it for a while it becomes easier. Additionally, there could be better support and compatibility with management by having a command-line interface. This would be beneficial for the customers."
"This product is not as easy to use as some other solutions."
"It should have features for recovering a group of virtual machines and full-scale security. For recovering all the VMs at once, they don't have a GUI option, and we have to use the command line."
"In some cases, the response times could improve, but we haven't had issues with their support."
"Their L1 support is not so good as of now. They have recently outsourced to a company, and they are not doing good."
"Rubrik's disaster recovery capabilities could be improved."
"It is already very well furnished, but live mounts for Nutanix AHV would be amazing."
"They have what's called an organization which means different groups of access to Rubrik, but the alerting only goes to the admins."
"Initially, we encountered compatibility challenges with some of our technologies."
"Capacity reports could definitely be improved. It's hard to determine what is using the space and why. For instance, you can see that some host is using 2 TB on the Rubrik node and the disk space on that host is 400 GBs. It's hard to explain how there can be 2 TBs of data on local storage when nothing has changed on the host for the past three days."
"I have a personal want which might not necessarily make sense with Rubrik as a company or Rubrik as a software, but it would be really nice if they could also handle things like item-level backups and restores of Active Directory objects and DNS and DCP objects."
"Rubrik needs to continue to listen to their customers and what they want/need, not just care about money and the bottom line."
"There are some features to improve on in Rubrik. For instance, they should have a tool where we can integrate with our SAP HANA. Directly from the HANA studio, we should be able to do a backup. That's what I'm looking forward to in the future."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The tool is expensive. If one means cheaply priced and ten means expensive, I rate the tool's price as a seven."
"It was a part of a backup solution. So, it was free for us."
"There is a license required for this solution and the pricing depends on how many virtual machines you have."
"This is an expensive product."
"This is not a very cheap solution and compared to others, it is expensive."
"Pricing-wise, it is pretty much fair for any customer who only has a VMware environment. Licensing is based on the number of VMs that you want to protect at any given point in time. Licensing is not based on size."
"Rubrik is not the cheapest solution, but we've been happy with the time savings that we have seen. At least from what we have spent so far, we have been happy with the return on investment."
"There are additional costs for add-ons, and they recently upgraded a new cluster, which also carries a price."
"You need to understand what you're getting for the price. You are getting a backup solution, which is state of the art and works absolutely flawlessly. You are getting the storage needed to store your backups. You have all the sexy features that a modern backup solution can provide you, like deduplication, erasure coding, compression, fast execution time, secured data, and top-notch customer support. So, it might be expensive on paper. It's not free, but when you analyze what you are getting and the time you can spend on other stuff, then Rubrik is very cost-efficient."
"Rubrik's support is definitely on the expensive side, but I consider it to be top of the line. We incur no additional costs beyond the standard licensing fees."
"Rubrik is priced high, but it was the solution that was providing us encryption and was secure. The solution price is high, but you get what you pay for."
"The pricing and licensing of Rubrik is better than products that we've had in the past. It was quite a bit cheaper than Commvault and NetBackup."
"Rubrik is not cheap. Hopefully, you can archive your data on cheap storage to keep the investment minimal."
"High priced when considering a total change in backup solution."
