We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Technical support has been very helpful.""It's an easy solution to set up.""The setup is pretty simple.""I find the planning features the most valuable to me.""Microsoft Project is user-friendly and easy to use to do very complex project plans.""It can auto-connect based on the dates, which makes it easy. It auto-assigns people, and when you're starting to type in, it auto-fills and populates for you, which is great. It provides little time savers when you're typing everything out.""Microsoft Project is easy to use and helps our teams visualize the evolution of our projects.""Microsoft Project is used to track the project delivery and the project management."

"I like the automated calculations, especially on the resource side. When project managers enter their resource requirements into their staffing profiles, they are automatically translated into labor forecast calculations. PPM automates a significant portion of the forecast calculations. Timesheets are also built-in. We automatically process time sheets and bill them accordingly.""Micro Focus PPM is flexible and easy to use. It's simple to customize and configure workflows.""I like the ease of customization from an admin perspective. I'm really excited about some of the things that are coming in version 10.0.3 as far as what admins are able to do.""Resource management: The resource management module is very complete and covers most of the time all needs of customers.""Has a powerful workflow engine that allows creation of workflow complexities and processes.""Recent Program Management lifecycle, Program Management aggregation views due to interactive UI (selection of risks, issues, and changes in Program Overview) and “flash look & feel" of this functional chunk, which is different in comparison to other parts of HPE PPM.""It's a very detailed tool. As far as an enterprise is concerned, it gives you the flexibility to manage everything: portfolios, projects, finances, proposals, resources, and time... It takes care of even the minor details that need to be captured. The project management functionality is configured really well within the tool. That stands out.""There are so many different pieces of functionality, and we use almost every single piece from deployment to demand, project, resource, and time management."

Cons
"Microsoft Project could improve the interface, it should be more intuitive. It could be adjusted a little bit to make it a little easier to use and more user-friendly. It is a very powerful tool and it takes people a while to get used to it.""It has a bit of a learning curve since there are a lot of features in it, and we haven't really gotten a chance to train through the whole product.""When a project plan becomes huge, it is painful to arrange and structure the project in Microsoft Project. Currently, you require a separate product for managing agile projects, and people are using Jira and Rally to manage stories in agile. Primarily, on the software development side, people are kind of moving away from Microsoft Project.""The solution's interface seems to be an outdated one. So, I would like its interface to be improved.""The scalability is co-dependent on the stability of the product. We have 4000 users, and at times the product is slow.""Its reporting and its integration with some of the other related systems should be improved. It is not very easy to integrate.""This solution needs more templates focused on types of projects to ease setup.""We'd like to have more resource allocation and monitoring features."

More Microsoft Project Cons →

"The solution can sometimes be a little inflexible and a bit caustic.""Currently, HPE PPM does not allow “Project” approval, but only simple “Demand Request” approval (mobility).""I was not involved in the initial setup. I know that the project involved a lot of consulting that took a long time.""We had a couple of issues with stability or performance degradation about a year ago, around the time of the initial rollout. Since then, we've only had two unexpected outages that were quickly resolved.""User interface continues to be poor. The product does not have a similar view in the different modules, e.g., staffing vs financial management, it looks like you are working with a different product and it is not easy to use or intuitive.""The user interface is very, very old and is missing some functions, such as, for example, re-do, follow, and share functions. The UI is not good.""Sometimes features in PPM don't work as expected, or our users request a new feature. Typically, our partner vendor can deploy those changes. But there have been a few instances when we had to raise it with Micro Focus because it's beyond the ability of our partner vendor. When we raise the issue with Micro Focus, it sometimes takes time because it needs support from other customers using PPM, not just our bank. It goes through a voting system. Other customers need to vote for the feature. The features that get the most votes will possibly be added.""Portfolio scenarios: This is a very powerful feature. However, it’s limited to analyses."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I am not involved with this."
  • "I do not have personal experience with pricing or licensing of this product."
  • "You do not have to invest much in terms of configuring this solution to suit your needs."
  • "It gets expensive when having to add all of the plugins and everything that you need."
  • "It probably was $30 per license on a monthly basis. There is no additional fee."
  • "I do not remember the exact cost we paid but usually, they charge per user per month."
  • "Its price could be reduced a little."
  • "It was a three-year license deal that was reconciled on a quarterly basis. It is a reasonably priced product, and I consider that we got good value for money."

  • "Support and license management are two hurdles for us. Every time we purchase new licenses, it has taken us half a year to implement those."
  • "It is SaaS without a base fee."
  • "HPE PPM SaaS model is comprehensive, however, the base fee component has customer resistance to its recurring setup,"
  • "Now, we also received an increase in the support license prices, without any advanced notice. At this point, switching to unify all our licensing under HPE and customer support has been poor."
  • "We have an annual license, and it is fairly priced in comparison to that of other solutions."
  • "A large organization will find Micro Focus PPM affordable, but it may be a bit costly for a small or medium-sized company. The license is based on the number of users."
