We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"A lot of valuable features have been added in the last three years, including scheduling automation and intelligence.""The most valuable feature of Microsoft Project is the reminder feature. This feature allows for the system to send notifications or reminders to individuals who have a task to complete once someone has finished their task. This has been especially useful in situations where multiple people are involved in a task. For example, if I have completed my task and the next person is just beginning, the system will send them a reminder to notify them of my completion. This feature has proven to be very beneficial and convenient for me in my tasks.""We value all the features. Previously, we used Jenkins for similar purposes, but Microsoft Projects works fine. We're looking to improve integration with different clusters on production and automate various aspects of software development. This includes integration for alerting, monitoring, and pricing purposes, among other things.""The pricing is pretty good on the enterprise agreement we have.""It is easy to check project costs in the solution.""The Gantt chart view is great.""I use Microsoft Project to manage project timelines.""Microsoft Project is one of the only solutions you can use in just about any industry. It's difficult to do that with most other project management tools. There is a lot of flexibility within the product assets. Most sectors can utilize Microsoft Project successfully because it doesn't have any generic adapters."

"Resource allocation is the most valuable feature of Microsoft Project Server.""Microsoft Project Server is easy to use compared to other similar solutions, such as Primavera. It functions similar to Excel or others Microsoft solutions which makes it simple for most people to be able to use right away.""It is easily adaptable. In addition, it is easily used on mobile applications.""The solution's ease of use is its most valuable aspect.""The usability is excellent.""The most useful feature of Microsoft Project Server is you can select a function to see the baseline.""The solution is scalable and easy to expand.""We use Microsoft Project Server for project management."

Cons
"The solution could offer waterfall options for agile and sprint planning.""The tool's deployment is complex. Integration and automation also need to be improved.""It would be ideal if the solution integrated more with Azure DevOps and other work management platforms like Jira.""Microsoft Project should provide better documentation regarding the usage of the solution.""Its user experience can be improved while configuring it. Its reporting can also be better. Reporting is not very easy. Reports do not always work. I was trying to download some reports, and they didn't work. I don't know if it was related to the configuration that I was using. I didn't go too deep to check if something was missing.""The technical support could be improved. They are okay, however, they could be much better.""Could be more user-friendly, and forecasting could be better.""The collaboration has room for improvement."

"Work needs to be done on collaboration with SharePoint.""I'd like it if we could divide out the project calendars. On one project server, we might follow five projects or more at one time, and we'd like to see all of the items at once so that it becomes a long loop, but one where we can identify different projects in tandem and then focus on which we need to at the time. While I only have visibility into one, I'd like to see several at a time.""It should be more agile and more flexible when it comes to customization.""The deployment aspect of the product is a bit tedious.""It appears that Microsoft's primary goal is to migrate as much functionality as possible from the legacy on-premises Microsoft Project Server to the new cloud-based Power Apps solution.""The check-in, check-out feature makes Microsoft Project Server pretty slow or cumbersome to use.""We think that calculations are not working correctly, and there is a need to enter data a couple of times in order to give the correct calculations.""The solution could have more compact dashboards, such as one finds with Planview."

  • "I think they need more flexibility with licensing, because there are preconceived ideas that don't allow as much flexibility with the various licenses."
  • "The licensing was procured before my involvement."
  • "It has features that cannot be bought by other rivals, so cost does not matter."
  • "It is on the expensive side."
  • "There is a licensing cost."
  • "There is an annual license required for this solution."
  • "I cannot comment on the price as I was not responsible for purchasing the solution."
  • "I'm not quite sure about the licensing costs. We're probably paying somewhere in the neighborhood of about 80,000 to 90,000 a year for our current on-prem because we handle our own licensing. As far as Project Online is concerned, we're still trying to get a good handle on that. It looks like it is going to be in a neighborhood of about 120,000 to 150,000 a year, but we're getting a lot more capability out of it."
