Has provided straightforward backup and rapid deployment for diverse environments
There is reporting in IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, but I'm not very familiar with this area. I always concentrated on getting the customer to do the backup, restore, and related tasks, but there is reporting. IBM has made a decision to withdraw the product and replace it with IBM Data Protect. The correct direction is Data Protect, which includes ransomware detection. With IBM Data Protect, you can add more servers for backup. It's scalable, which is a key feature over Storage Protect and Storage Protect Plus, even more capable than Veritas, because Veritas has an option to make different media servers. You can scale the backup process regardless of the load of the customer. This speeds up the backup and restore process for a complete data center, which cannot be done with any other product. I rate IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 9 out of 10.

Functional application availability
There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature, and they should improve that option. They also provide the AIX agent, which is similar to the Windows and Linux agents. Since we use AIX machines, we need to take backups of those machines. However, the options available in that agent are limited. Therefore, the new version should have improvements in that area.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The support from IBM is very good."
"The most valuable features of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus are you have many possibilities on how to use it. We use it for backups and to create secondary and third copies. It is possible to pick up Kubernetes containers and use a different cloud provider if you need to start backups on the cloud."
"With this product, we now have a reliable backup solution."
"The solution is scalable and can be fitted for any customer."
"This solution is very stable and has good support available online."
"The most valuable feature of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is the deduplication functionality. The clients moved to this solution originally because of this feature."
"Pricing is good; it is reasonable and more reasonable than any other vendors."
"Using this tool, we can easily backup and restore or recover the data for PCs and mobiles in case of system crashes."
"The Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is easy to use and performing a recovery is easy to do."
"The solution is useful for taking backups for end-user laptops and end-user workstations where data is involved."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to navigate inside a backup point to look for a specific folder or data you want to recover."
"The interface of this solution is quite good."
"It's straightforward to set up."
"The most valuable features of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows are the backups, ease of use, and report manager."
"The solution is very affordable for small businesses."
"I love Veeam because it is very easy to work with."

Cons

"The solution only supports HyperV and VMware but doesn't support Nutanix."
"Instead of using the command prompt for troubleshooting and administering the backup, there should be an easy-to-use graphical user interface."
"It requires much more automation features."
"I would like to see continuous data protection (CDP). If there is machine failure, you don't have to go to the backup copy that you took 12 hours ago. You can actually go back to the backup copy made half an hour ago. That is, it would be good to have certain-point-in-time recovery."
"I cannot determine what benefit IBM Spectrum Protect Plus brings to the organization because we deployed this solution with one customer, and that customer changed the product after one or two years because the product is not stable and it changes with every version."
"Their first level of support can be improved. Often they are too junior to understand the issues we are having, and it takes too much time to get from them to the next level of support, which is what we actually need."
"There could be better integration with Spectrum Protect and Spectrum Protect Plus, it should be one solution."
"The software's technical support could improve its response time for different time zones."
"It fulfills our needs in terms of features. In terms of improvements, they can maybe improve its documentation."
"Troubleshooting is very hard."
"I can't think of anything that may be missing."
"The solution lacks instant recovery."
"We need some sort of security for backups and archives."
"It is not always easy to update this solution to the newer version, so the update process needs to be improved."
"There should be an option to use the solution for physical machines."
"With the currency exchange, the solution ends up being quite expensive."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is perpetual, but the maintenance cost is annual. That is, we pay once for the product and pay annually for the maintenance and support. The price was much cheaper than what we would have had to pay for EMC or Veritas. The pricing is competitive, and I would rate it at four out of five."
"The price offering from IBM is coming down because it is based on number of VM machines. So, IBM is coming to the market to show the added value of the product."
"The solution is too expensive."
"Clients prefer to buy a perpetual license, but the majority opt for a yearly subscription."
"Depends on the licensing options that you choose."
"Unlike some other solutions, such as Veritas NetBackup where you have to pay for different licenses to use different features, there is a single license that allows you to use all of the features."
"If you need to extend it, it can be extended acting like a normal Spectrum Protect with a long archive."
"We have a perpetual license for the tool since it is deployed on-premise."
"Pricing is based on license packaging and duration. Longer term licenses are less per year and license packages also offer a discount."
"The pricing model is based on CPU and must be declared as Microsoft or VMware licensing."
"There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, and pricing can be a disadvantage or a weakness for this solution."
"We have the Community Edition and I believe we bought a license for 200 instances. Veeam Agent is mainly used for our branch offices. Those only have one or two Hyper-V servers, so it's covered with the Community Edition. Basically, it's free. I remember Veeam 7.0 or 8.0 wasn't free, but the Community Edition is."
"We pay for a three-year subscription to use Veeam Agent."
"We have a license package."
"Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis."
"We have an annual license."
