Functional application availability
There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature, and they should improve that option. They also provide the AIX agent, which is similar to the Windows and Linux agents. Since we use AIX machines, we need to take backups of those machines. However, the options available in that agent are limited. Therefore, the new version should have improvements in that area.

Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is that it's a VMware environment."
"I like working on the Azure platform."
"We found the initial setup to be quite simple."
"It's straightforward to set up."
"If you have windows machine at home and you'd like a backup, you can always download their free edition and plug in an external hard disk, and do a full backup of your laptop."
"It is easy to deploy."
"It is good and easy to use for backing up physical servers. It is working fine, and it is stable and scalable."
"Technical support is good."
"The most valuable features are the notifications, which give us failure alerts for some infrastructure within the backup, and the reporting is excellent."
"It provides a much better user experience compared to other vendors. It works faster as well."
"The backup and replication capabilities are quite good."
"The product's initial setup phase was straightforward for me."
"The solution's instant recovery feature is good and allows you to capture and copy individual files."
"The good thing about Veeam is that its initial setup and usage are straightforward."
"I am not a direct user of this product, but my technical guys tell me that they like the product, and it is easy to use. We don't have any issues with it."
"One person can manage parameters."

Cons

"Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows should improve by having more features, easier deployment, and compatibility with Unix boxes."
"If you are doing an AIX backup then you have to use the CLI because it doesn't appear on the console, the way that Windows and Linux jobs do."
"There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature."
"I can't think of anything that may be missing."
"There really are no cons. The product simply has to maintain development to keep up with changes in the operating system."
"I would like to see the ability for incremental backups and reverse backups."
"I would like to see the capability for remote installation of third party applications added( Like installing WinRar MS Office etc..) , and Firewall for servers."
"The support could be improved a lot, as it is currently non-existent."
"I would like them to move back to host licensing."
"In the past, Veeam had a host-based license, but now it will be part of Microsoft's core license. I don't like this licensing model. Host-based licensing is better for my system. Maybe so other organizations prefer the core-based."
"Veeam ONE should improve its UI."
"Device backup could be improved."
"My main concern about Veeam is that I hope our backups will still be secure in the event of a security incident such as a ransomware attack. In Veeam version 11 they do state that there is ransomware protection, but until it has been proven to be effective, I don't have any assurance that it will prevent data loss."
"The solution requires a lot of bandwidth."
"They have an integration with MS SQL, and you have to license MS SQL. This is something they need to change. They should go for an open-source database or a free SQL because you're already buying this product, and you shouldn't have to buy another product."
"I think Veeam needs to improve the file installation process, as well as more technical things like snapping feature issues. Sometimes during backup, when it's taking the scan snaps on the ESXi, it started and didn't remove the snapshot from there, which consumed storage on the EXSi. It could be improved with more technical depth. The response time for Veeam's technical support could also be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing is based on license packaging and duration. Longer term licenses are less per year and license packages also offer a discount."
"We have an annual license."
"The cost for its licenses is reasonable and as per industry standards."
"The solution is inexpensive, more so than other products."
"We pay for a three-year subscription to use Veeam Agent."
"There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, and pricing can be a disadvantage or a weakness for this solution."
"We have a cloud provider agreement with Veeam. We are also paying for the agent."
"We are on an annual license to use Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. There are not any additional fees to use the solution."
"The product is expensive."
"I find the pricing to be okay."
"We are on an annual license for Veeam Backup Replication. We could expand or upgrade the license for the Office365 features. Next year we might go to a three-year plan for support on license."
"The price of Veeam Backup and Replication is expensive."
"The pricing is good and affordable."
"The price of the solution could improve when comparing it to competitors. The market is very competitive and they should have some discounts or special offers."
"There is a license required for this solution and the price is a bit expensive but it depends on the environment that you have on how much it will cost."
"We pay yearly licensing fees for Veeam in our data centers where we're using disaster recovery and replication between our many solutions, especially cloud solutions. From the beginning, we've done our licensing from a separate channel through our data center team in Seattle."
