Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"3PAR is different from other storage solutions because it uses a chunklet when we initiate the storage. Every disk is submitted as a 1 GB chunklet. This chunklet can be RAID 1, 4, 5, or 6. This fabulous feature is very useful for me because I can distribute the RAID for any volume. The adaptive optimization is the biggest feature in 3PAR. 3PAR is very usable with thin volume because it detects zeros while writing. Every time I tell the hypervisor to make the full provisioning, it makes the volume as simple provisioning in 3PAR, not full provisioning. Other vendors take this volume as thick provisioning because of which the capacity is reached quickly. It doesn't happen in 3PAR because it detects zeros. It only writes the data, and it doesn't write zeros. There are two processors in 3PAR: the ASIC processor and the main processor. The ASIC processor detects zero writing and doesn't write it, which is a big feature in 3PAR.""This product is stable, aside from the performance problems we had.""HPE 3PAR StoreServ is easy to use and has good performance.""There are a lot of screens for easy management where you can change some settings. But after a few years, the important settings were better after an upgrade, and all the vendors have other ways to upgrade their systems.""The technical support is good.""It is reliable, and it seems like a solid product. It has been working well so far.""HPE 3PAR StoreServ is easy to use, fully featured and has a great graphical user interface.""The features which are most valuable are the availability of the system and the management."

"HPE Nimble Storage uses the InfoSight platform and it is useful because we can identify the faults and can analyze the performance. It has many other features. This feature is the best that I have observed from HPE Nimble Storage.""Updates are very easy to do when the customer is connected to the internet.""InfoSight is helpful because it is proactive support.""The most valuable feature is the NVMe flash storage.""The most useful features are high availability and the storage snapshot backup functionality.""It is easy to use. Not too complicated.""The deduplication and compression capabilities are powerful.""Even if one control fails, it automatically turns on the other controller and everything moves from one to the second instantaneously without any issues."

Cons
"If HPE 3PAR could handle NAS and all things related to NAS, you would not need to have a mixture of different storages, storage boxes, one solution could fit all.""I would like to see an automatic re-balancing system or functionality for adaptive optimization.""Setting up 3PAR is somewhat complicated, and it took about a week.""HP has several integration elements that work with other vendor storage products. I'd like to see a greater expansion on that so that a customer can do a more seamless migration from other vendor products.""With 3PAR, there is remote copy software which isn't very good.""This product has come to the end of its lifecycle.""The GUI interface could be improved. I have been having trouble with one issue in particular. If you look at the DC and DR, if there is a communication break and the link went down—so the data is not replicating from DC to DR—there is no way to find out how much data is ready for transmission. Only the size of the data that needs to be transferred after the link comes up. If the firewall link is down, there is no way of seeing how much data is waiting to be transferred. This is a weak point of 3PAR.""The solution could improve by being more secure."

More HPE 3PAR StoreServ Cons →

"A feature that would be a nice addition to the next release would be a filer option. A filer option so that you could connect the sim or NFS or chips like NetApp does for NAS functionality.""We are doing a hybrid and are moving some machines to Microsoft Azure to run in hybrid mode. We are checking the availability of extra software-defined storage so that we can configure it.""We would like there to be more enhanced features.""The solution should allow for easier configurations.""You could argue that it would be preferable if everything were cheaper in order to save taxpayer money.""There is a new version of the Nimble and 3PAR systems called Alletra and they have a lot of new features.""There is no active-active controller, which means that we can only have one controller online at a time.""I would like to see an added feature to auto-fix, or a dynamic alerting system on storage."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "We paid for five years of support when we purchased the product."
  • "The SSD is a little bit expensive."
  • "This is not an expensive product but every time you add capacity to it, you need to pay for re-balancing."
  • "Its price is a bit high for adding another tree, but when we purchased it, it was okay with us. We had compared it with EMC and other solutions, and it was okay at that point in time. Our storage has a lifespan of seven to eight years. When you purchase it, you need to keep a headroom of around 40% to 50%. After three to four years, you generally plan for an upgrade. The price is not so bad today for two years or so, and within a year, I might find that I have to upgrade or increase the storage. This usually happens when there is a radical change or a new application has come that is consuming a lot of data, but generally, there is a plan for the amount of data that we generate and the storage upgrade."
  • "It is lower in price as compared to other vendors, such as Dell. As compared to Huawei, all storage solutions are expensive, including this one."
  • "It is a bit more expensive. IBM is cheaper than HPE in Turkey."
  • "This solution is expensive. We pay every year for support. It's a lump sum because we pay for data center support services, and everything is included in one."
  • "The cost is reasonable given that the licensing is all included once you purchase it."

  • "Nimble Storage is too expensive for our enterprise customers."
  • "I would classify it as an expensive product."
  • "HPE Nimble Storage didn't require a license at the time."
  • "The price is negotiable and when we first received the quote it was expensive, but after dealing with them and receiving a discount, the price is reasonable."
  • "The solution is a little pricey compared to others on the market."
  • "I think HPE Nimble Storage is less expensive than Primera and is the best solution for Venezuela."
  • "We pay a one-time fee for terabyte licenses, and the support is paid yearly."
  • "There is a one-time price for hardware, and with the software support, everything is included, such as software upgrades. The licensing of the solution is included in the cost of the hardware and the support is an extra cost. We have purchased support on an annual basis, but you can purchase support up front for up to seven years. We usually buy five years and near the time of the expiry, we sometimes extend it."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by PeerSpot users currently using the HPE 3PAR StoreServ solution.

A SAN Consultant at a tech services company says, “One of the features that I like the most is the data replication element. The reason I like it is due to the fact that it's pretty clean on replicating data over to a second site. The product stands on its own in heavy enterprise environments. It's easy to make changes without affecting the environment. The solution is very easy to use. The product is very robust and offers very good performance.”

A Storage Manager at a financial services firm mentions, "There are a lot of screens for easy management where you can change some settings. But after a few years, the important settings were better after an upgrade, and all the vendors have other ways to upgrade their systems."

A Senior IT Infrastructure & Data Center Operation Engineer at Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) comments, “The adaptive optimization is the biggest feature in 3PAR. 3PAR is very usable with thin volume because it detects zeros while writing. Every time I tell the hypervisor to make the full provisioning, it makes the volume as simple provisioning in 3PAR, not full provisioning.”
