We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We primarily use Dremio to create a data framework and a data queue.""Dremio enables you to manage changes more effectively than any other data warehouse platform. There are two things that come into play. One is data lineage. If you are looking at data in Dremio, you may want to know the source and what happened to it along the way or how it may have been transformed in the data pipeline to get to the point where you're consuming it.""The most valuable feature of Dremio is it can sit on top of any other data storage, such as Amazon S3, Azure Data Factory, SGFS, or Hive. The memory competition is good. If you are running any kind of materialized view, you'd be running in memory.""Everyone uses Dremio in my company; some use it only for the analytics function.""Dremio gives you the ability to create services which do not require additional resources and sterilization.""Dremio allows querying the files I have on my block storage or object storage."

"It ensures the optimization of the application development while maintaining the user-friendly nature of its UI.""It helps with business intelligence by providing analytics that can be reported.""The platform not only provides ease of use but also stands out for its speedy execution, conveying a sense of robustness and reliability that I find appealing.""One of the key advancements in Snowflake Analytics is data sharing.""I am impressed with the product's data-sharing feature.""It can run complex workloads with varied compute.""The Snowflake features I find most beneficial for data analysis are primarily related to analytics, particularly their features like materialized views and queues, which are especially useful for dashboarding purposes.""The most valuable feature of Snowflake Analytics is the ability to control and manage the cost."

Cons
"They have an automated tool for building SQL queries, so you don't need to know SQL. That interface works, but it could be more efficient in terms of the SQL generated from those things. It's going through some growing pains. There is so much value in tools like these for people with no SQL experience. Over time, Dermio will make these capabilities more accessible to users who aren't database people.""I cannot use the recursive common table expression (CTE) in Dremio because the support page says it's currently unsupported.""It shows errors sometimes.""We've faced a challenge with integrating Dremio and Databricks, specifically regarding authentication. It is not shaking hands very easily.""Dremio takes a long time to execute large queries or the executing of correlated queries or nested queries. Additionally, the solution could improve if we could read data from the streaming pipelines or if it allowed us to create the ETL pipeline directly on top of it, similar to Snowflake.""Dremio doesn't support the Delta connector. Dremio writes the IT support for Delta, but the support isn't great. There is definitely room for improvement."

"Implementing everything on-premise is challenging because it require proper support from advisors, DBAs, and others.""One notable absence in Snowflake's offerings is an on-premises solution.""If you have a lot of computations, it becomes very costly.""Integration into different Python and Jupyter notebooks needs to be improved.""The solution's high price can be an area of concern that needs improvement.""The platform's data governance space needs more capability.""Snowflake could improve in the areas of advanced machine learning AML and generative AI.""Snowflake Analytics can improve the integration with machine learning tools and AI and it will make the solution more usable."

Pricing and Cost Advice

  • "Dremio is less costly competitively to Snowflake or any other tool."
  • More Dremio Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Snowflake Analytics is a little more costly than Azure."
  • "When using Snowflake, you pay based on your usage. They calculate how much CPU has been used. If you use excess warehouse storage, you are charged one credit per hour. If you are in Asia, you are charged $3 per credit. If you have 10 users running parallel with the same excess, you will be charged $30."
  • "The cost of Snowflake Analytics is low, any small organization can use it."
  • "The solution's price is high and I would rate it an eight out of ten."
  • "On a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price, I rate the pricing a seven. The solution's pricing is high."
  • "It is an expensive solution, but the kind of usability and flexibility it proactively provides for the organizations justify the price."
  • "The tool is quite expensive."
  • "Snowflake Analytics is not an expensive solution, and its pricing is average."

    Overview

Dremio is a powerful data analytics tool known for its SQL Lakehouse architecture which allows for direct querying across various sources without data replication. It accelerates BI operations, simplifies data management with a user-friendly interface, and enhances organizational efficiency by improving data accessibility and accelerating query performance.

Conventional data platforms and big data solutions struggle to deliver on their fundamental purpose: to enable any user to work with any data, without limits on scale, performance or flexibility. Whether you’re a data analyst, data scientist, data engineer, or any other business or technology professional, you’ll get more from your data with Snowflake.

To achieve this, we built a new data platform from the ground up for the cloud. It’s designed with a patented new architecture to be the centerpiece for data pipelines, data warehousing, data lakes, data application development, and for building data exchanges to easily and securely share governed data. The result, A platform delivered as a service that’s powerful but simple to use.

Snowflake’s cloud data platform supports a multi-cloud strategy, including a cross-cloud approach to mix and match clouds as you see fit. Snowflake delivers advantages such as global data replication, which means you can move your data to any cloud in any region, without having to re-code your applications or learn new skills.
