Has improved incident response with better root cause visibility and supports flexible on-call scheduling
Datadog needs to introduce more hard limits to cost. If we see a huge log spike, administrators should have more control over what happens to save costs. If a service starts logging extensively, I want the ability to automatically direct that log into the cheapest log bucket. This should be the case with many offerings. If we're seeing too much APM, we need to be aware of it and able to stop it rather than having administrators reach out to specific teams. Datadog has become significantly slower over the last year. They could improve performance at the risk of slowing down feature work. More resources need to go into Fleet Automation because we face many problems with things such as the Ansible role to install Datadog in non-containerized hosts. We mainly want to see performance improvements, less time spent looking at costs, the ability to trust that costs will stay reasonable, and an easier way to manage our agents. It is such a powerful tool with much potential on the horizon, but cost control, performance, and agent management need improvement. The main issues are with the administrative side rather than the actual application.

A suitable choice for unified and efficient infrastructure monitoring across diverse environments providing user-friendly GUI, cost-effectiveness, and versatility
We use it for this specific client, they've deployed multiple instances of it across various locations to facilitate monitoring. To effectively monitor their infrastructure, it seems necessary to implement additional monitoring solutions for all three types of devices they have Nagios Fusion…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Real user monitoring has made triaging any possible bugs our users might face a lot easier."
"Because of our client focus, it is easy for us to sell. This is because it is easy to use and easy to set up."
"The single pane of glass view with maneuvering between products has helped us to truly understand root causes after incidents."
"Dashboards are helpful for reviewing occasionally to get a higher-level overview of what's happening."
"Datadog's learning platform is second to none."
"Datadog agents act as an integration to different services, providing easy access and management."
"It is easy to implement and scale applications with standardized visibility, monitoring and alerting"
"We've found it most useful for managing Rstudio Workbench, which has its own logs that would not be picked up via Cloudwatch."
"Nagios Fusion version 12.8 excels in user-friendly GUI design, cost-effectiveness, and ease of deployment."
"It's very easy to manage and monitor it."
"Being open source lets us customize it for our monitoring needs, saving us money."
"It is easier for client installation, and the configurations are doable even for a newcomer in the field."

Cons

"I'd like to see an expansion of the Android and IOS apps to have a simplified CI/CD pipeline history view."
"There could be more easily identifiable documentation on how to find different things on the platform."
"Graph filters for logs need to be set manually which works well for JSON but not for unstructured logs."
"They should continue expanding and integrating with more third-party apps."
"The user interface is okay, but sometimes cost is the issue because for logging, I had to actually trim down my logs because the cost is too much."
"If there were a more cost-effective manner of deploying the tool, we'd be more likely to adopt it more widely."
"We would really like to see more from the Service Catalog."
"I believe Datadog could be improved because sometimes it's not the most user-friendly, and when monitors have a new metric or a service that no longer needs to be monitored, it remains in the system."
"Nagios Fusion should include a 'remember me' option when logging in, so we don't need to enter a username and password every time."
"In future iterations of this solution, there is a desire for more seamless integration with other monitoring software."
"There are some bugs, although not that many. There are some situations where the solution is not stable but the number of problems is not very high."
"Adding application performance monitoring to the product alongside infrastructure monitoring would make it a more complete and useful solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing is somewhat affordable compared to other solutions but in order to really lower the costs of other products you need to plan very carefully your resources usage, otherwise, it can get expensive real quick."
"Datadog does not provide any free plans to use the solution. When I start with a proof of concept it would be sensible to have a free plan to test the tool and check whether it fits the requirements of the project. Before the production stage, it is always good to have a free plan with some limited features, number of requests, or logs."
"Our licensing fees are paid on a monthly basis."
"Sometimes it's very hard to project how much it will cost for the monthly subscription for the next month when you add certain features. Having better visibility of the cost would give a better experience."
"My advice is to really keep an eye on your overage costs, as they can spiral really fast."
"This solution is budget friendly."
"The solution is fairly priced but history and log storage can get costly depending on your needs."
"If you do your homework, you'll find that if you're really concerned with cost, it's good."
"The pricing is quite reasonable, especially when compared to the broader market."
