Datadog needs to introduce more hard limits to cost. If we see a huge log spike, administrators should have more control over what happens to save costs. If a service starts logging extensively, I want the ability to automatically direct that log into the cheapest log bucket. This should be the case with many offerings. If we're seeing too much APM, we need to be aware of it and able to stop it rather than having administrators reach out to specific teams. Datadog has become significantly slower over the last year. They could improve performance at the risk of slowing down feature work. More resources need to go into Fleet Automation because we face many problems with things such as the Ansible role to install Datadog in non-containerized hosts. We mainly want to see performance improvements, less time spent looking at costs, the ability to trust that costs will stay reasonable, and an easier way to manage our agents. It is such a powerful tool with much potential on the horizon, but cost control, performance, and agent management need improvement. The main issues are with the administrative side rather than the actual application.

Users value data-driven insights for optimizing business operations
The most important features are the site-to-site user experience, including details like how many users are on a site, the number of users on an SSID, and identifying guest users in business premises. These features help in understanding peak times during business hours and are highly valued by customers in Qatar.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Log management is a great way for me to identify changes in behavior across services and environments as we make changes or as user behavior evolves."
"The ease of correcting these dashboards and widgets when needed is amazing."
"Both the engineering team and the product team are seeing tremendous value from this solution."
"I really enjoy the RUM monitoring features of Datadog. It allows us to monitor user behavior in a way we couldn't before."
"The technology itself is generally very useful and the interface is great."
"Sometimes it's more user friendly for development teams, and there are parts of Datadog that are more understandable for development teams; for example, the APM in Datadog works more manually and works like the tools in New Relic, Grafana, or Elastic, making it easier to understand for software development teams."
"Datadog has proven to be easy to set up and legible for both development and operational teams."
"The feature I have found most valuable is when I can reuse existing monitors and alerts for new dashboards."
"We can manage the entire system across the network and troubleshoot the pain points."
"The solution is stable due to its Cloud-based nature, which eliminates downtime or crashing issues."
"The single dashboard is a valuable feature."

Cons

"Managing dashboards as IaC is a bit hard to work out at times."
"The solution needs to integrate AI tools."
"I would love to see more metrics or analytics in IoT devices."
"One thing we have run into is that it is so easy to add monitoring that we turn on things without really understanding the costs."
"I would love to see support for front-end and mobile applications. Right now, it is mostly all back-end stuff. Being able to do some integration with our front-end products would be awesome."
"Datadog has become significantly slower over the last year. They could improve performance at the risk of slowing down feature work."
"When I started using it years ago, it had stability problems. I remember, specifically, we ran everything in Docker containers."
"It's not just that Datadog is expensive—it's that the cost is incredibly complex and hard to predict."
"Before October 2024, there was room for improvement in the UI to make it more user-friendly. The Client Insight page on Juniper Mist Premium Analytics could be made simpler."
"The Wi-Fi side needs improvement."
"The technical support needs improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It has a module-based pricing model."
"I am not satisfied with its licensing. Its payment is based on the exported data, and there was an explosion of the data for three or four weeks. My customer was not alerted, and there was no way for them to see that there has been an explosion of data. They got a big invoice for one or two months. The pricing model of Datadog is based on the data. The customer was quite surprised about not being alerted about this explosion of data. They should provide some kind of alert when there is an increase in usage."
"The cost is high and this can be justified if the scale of the environment is big."
"The solution's pricing depends on project volume."
"While it is an expensive product, I would rate the pricing level at four out of five."
"Pricing seems reasonable. It depends on the size of your organization, the size of your infrastructure, and what portion of your overall business costs go toward infrastructure."
"The price of Datadog is reasonable. Other solutions are more expensive, such as AppDynamics."
"Datadog does not provide any free plans to use the solution. When I start with a proof of concept it would be sensible to have a free plan to test the tool and check whether it fits the requirements of the project. Before the production stage, it is always good to have a free plan with some limited features, number of requests, or logs."
"The solution is expensive."
