OLAP ad-hoc analysis is a valuable feature but the pricing needs to be improved.

Reporting on insurance finances has become robust and supports detailed geo-spatial analysis
I am quite satisfied with the reporting part of the product. However, compared to other tools, the modeling part is not as strong. Data modeling is not as easy on MicroStrategy as it is on other platforms. I have worked with the administration tool and the Architect tool for MicroStrategy, but creating a star schema is not as easy compared to other tools. Creating hierarchies and the modeling part is challenging because data modeling is one of the most important aspects of any BI project. If you can create a star schema or Snowflake schema easily, then report building becomes straightforward. Additionally, MicroStrategy's Workstation tool compared to Developer still lacks some functionality that can be done more easily on the Developer side. Workstation is a great tool, but they have not given it full functionality.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's allowed us to implement High Performance Work teams who periodically monitor KPIs, as well as improving the infrastructure and overall work methodology."
"It's user-friendly, also the MTDI cube is a very good approach, as it helps you to use the pre-format instead of using the standard objects from the schema of MicroStrategy."
"For our high volume (both data and users), MicroStrategy continues to be the backbone of these SaaS solutions."
"I really like the visualizations; I like how you can put large data sets in there, then the user can quickly go through the data and drill down at various levels to understand things."
"The most important feature is the way it handles ad hoc queries and provides formatted reports."
"It is always nice to have one solution in a single platform. You can do pretty much everything, instead of having to get a little bit here or a little bit there."
"Their reports are excellent and thorough."
"Working as a BI Consultant, I have to develop different analyses, reports and dashboard documents to analyze the status of different business measures."
"For me, the ROI is total since the first report was sent."

Cons

"Pricing needs to be brought down."
"There is a need to improve the automatic generation of metrics in MicroStrategy, as currently everything must be done manually."
"Visualisation will improved in the next version."
"They should give proper industry-based tutorials so that one can learn it easily and implement it based on the requirements. They should give more MMP files so that we can import a whole project altogether and learn from that project."
"If you compare it with Power BI with the DAX language, it would be great to put that into MicroStrategy."
"Its price should be lower."
"I would like to see a single standalone application to control everything from the administration perspective, and also to develop new applications."
"Unfortunately, over the past five years, fewer capable first-level technical support technicians have been able to answer my questions."
"The most expensive position is license cost. It is very expensive so this one of the reason why we can't expand the solution more widely in the company."
