Seamless integration enhances team collaboration and process efficiency
The Git interfaces in AWS CodeCommit definitely need work. When we migrated our payment processing system at Huntington, we found the web UI to be basic compared to GitHub and GitLab. Simple things such as viewing directory structures or browsing through commit history and pull request flow could use serious upgrades. We had to create workarounds for features that come standard elsewhere, such as automatically assigning reviewers based on code ownership and setting up required review templates. The search functionality is another pain point, as trying to find specific code across repositories is limited. At Walgreens, we had a large mono repo for our pharmacy services code, and developers constantly complained about how difficult it was to search through it effectively in AWS CodeCommit. I also wish it had better CI/CD visualization built in.

Collaborating on code has become smoother while pricing and hosting options still need work
Bitbucket needs improvement as it has very limited cloud hosting options. With Atlassian phasing out its self-hosted server version, organizations are forced to choose between Bitbucket Cloud, which may not meet strict local compliance requirements, or a highly expensive data option. Additionally, Bitbucket is not competitive on pricing for scaling teams, as the free tier is great for up to five team members, but the jump in price for growing teams beyond five users can become steep compared to other repositories. Some enterprise users report that Bitbucket's stability can affect its speed when handling very large repositories, and though it has good support, the technical support team should be more active, as I have not seen them as active compared to GitLab and GitHub. The limited cloud hosting options and pricing for scaling teams are two important areas for improvement.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"AWS CodeCommit is highly user-friendly."
"The customer service is pretty good."
"It is a really good product where you can easily create your repository and integrate it with other tools such as IAM to handle the user and management aspects of the repository."
"The customer service is pretty good."
"The most valuable feature of AWS CodeCommit is that it acts as a code repository with code versioning and approval features similar to those found on GitHub."
"AWS CodeCommit is highly user-friendly."
"The solution is quite scalable."
"AWS CodeCommit is much easier to use than Bitbucket. It doesn't require any personal password or these things. We just need to put in our AWS account password and username."
"The product's most valuable feature is output backup."
"The tool helps us manage different versions of code and branches. I like that Bitbucket is similar to Git but may have some vendor support. It has many of the same features as Git."
"Bitbucket works fine for what I'm doing. It's slightly different from GitHub, but it's a good tool for storing code."
"The initial setup was straightforward, especially leveraging its cloud platform deployment options."
"Bitbucket is an integral part of our CI/CD project."
"You can use Bitbucket to whitelist IP addresses during deployment."
"Bitbucket is definitely a tool to consider if somebody is still on CVS. It is a great tool and well integrated with Bamboo."
"Bitbucket has positively impacted my organization by saving time, managing code at one point, and helping track tickets assigned to team members via Jira."

Cons

"The solution could be more user-friendly and cheaper."
"When I compare code, AWS has a cap on the file size, and that size is pretty small compared to what GitHub and GitLab provide."
"The tool should improve its UI."
"There is room for improvement in Insight Analytics."
"Although CodeCommit's user interface is good, it can be improved when compared to other version controls like GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket."
"Migration in and out of CodeCommit should be improved."
"There are some options in Bitbucket that are not available in AWS CodeCommit. For example, code reviewer. We can't add a code reviewer in AWS CodeCommit, and we can't fork the repository online. These are the two things that Bitbucket has, but the solution doesn't have. Also, Jira has a debugging option that AWS CodeCommit doesn't have. Another thing is that Bitbucket charges three dollars per month per user. Compared with AWS CodeCommit, that only charges one dollar per month. So, AWS CodeCommit is cheaper than Bitbucket. But it does not have enough features that Bitbucket has. Additionally, it will be good if you upload one video or documentation on how to use AWS CodeCommit for beginners. That will be more helpful. There you can add more details about pricing. There are not many details about pricing. Bitbucket has a table where they have mentioned everything in detail, like, what features for how much price, how much longer you can use and how many users can use."
"The number of users for AWS CodeCommit is generally less compared to other version control systems."
"Currently, what's lacking in Bitbucket is the assignment feature."
"Bitbucket could improve its security. For example, the user access security could improve."
"I would like to see the security logs option on the tool directly. The current way to work with security logs is through an email protocol."
"Bitbucket's stability isn't flawless. It has crashed on me occasionally, but I haven't yet lost anything after a crash."
"Bitbucket's usability and integration with other tools could be improved somewhat."
"I think the developers are constantly working on improving the pull requests support."
"Bitbucket should come with code review pre-integrated, which would be better than integrating another tool into the solution."
"The online documentation isn't sufficient for configuration at an enterprise level. If new issues arise, vendor support may be necessary."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"As for pricing, you can add the table in detail. You can visit Bitbucket or refer to any other tools. There, you can see what is the difference between your pricing and other prices. You have only mentioned it in a single line. Other tools have been mentioned in a table format, like, how many users, premium, normal accounts, and other things."
"AWS CodeCommit is competitively priced against all the other competitors."
"The solution is expensive."
"Sometimes there are issues in obtaining licenses and the pricing could be improved."
"Bitbucket is a low-priced tool."
"Bitbucket is an inexpensive product."
"Bitbucket is a cost-effective solution. It is the cheapest in the market. It is lower than GitLab and GitHub."
"I rate the price from Bitbucket a four out of five."
"I rate Bitbucket's pricing a five out of ten."
"A full licensing cost is paid for Bitbucket."
"We have approximately 40 licenses for Bitbucket."
