Integration capabilities enhance message handling without human interaction
With ActiveMQ there should be more options. If you work with other technologies, for example, Java, there are many options. We can integrate the way we want ActiveMQ. We can create partitions and clusters, but AP is not providing such options currently. It only provides time, request response timing, the number of requests that need to be handled, and protocol types. The configuration needs to be broadened inside AP to perform in a better way. Sometimes issues arise in production with ActiveMQ due to the number of requests. For example, if you have configured one thousand requests at a time and it receives one thousand and one messages at a time, it breaks. The configuration aspect is tricky. When configurations are proper, ActiveMQ almost has zero errors.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The initial setup and first deployment of ActiveMQ is fairly simple."
"ActiveMQ brings the most value to small applications because it will not cost you very much to complete."
"The most important feature is that it's best for JVM-related languages and JMS integration."
"ActiveMQ demonstrates excellent stability and sturdiness."
"It’s a JMS broker, so the fact that it can allow for asynchronous communication is valuable."
"There is a vibrant community, and it is one of the strongest points of this product. We always get answers to our problems. So, my experience with the community support has been good."
"The initial setup is straightforward and only takes a few minutes."
"The ability to store the failed events for some time is valuable."
"We use VMware RabbitMQ to transfer information from one point to another."
"It's one of the fastest databases in the market. It's easy to use. From a maintenance perspective it's a good product. The segmentation, or architecture of the product is different than other databases such as Oracle. So even in 10 years, the data distribution for such segments will not affect other segments. The query performance of the product, for complex queries, is very good. It has good integration with Hadoop."
"Reliability for the messages is key. RabbitMQ ensures your messages are safe. They are not deleted and stuff."
"A very good, open-source platform."
"We have been able to set up a messaging system that facilitates data integration between the software modules that we sell."
"Very fast for query processing."
"RabbitMQ provides access to SDKs for development and the ability to raise and log tickets if we encounter issues. We can integrate RabbitMQ using various languages like Java or Python using the provided SDKs."
"The most valuable feature for me is that it is open source. The licensing costs are really low and they are transparent."

Cons

"Sometimes issues arise in production with ActiveMQ due to the number of requests. For example, if you have configured one thousand requests at a time and it receives one thousand and one messages at a time, it breaks."
"For additional functionality, I suggest making it easier to install and monitor the queues, topics, broker status, publisher status, and consumer status. Improved monitoring tools would help avoid needing to manually access the server for monitoring purposes."
"The solution's stability needs improvement."
"The clustering for sure needs improvement. When we were using it, the only thing available was an active/passive relationship that had to be maintained via shared file storage. That model includes a single point of failure in that storage medium."
"The tool needs to improve its installation part which is lengthy. The product is already working on that aspect so that the complete installation gets completed within a month."
"It does not scale out well. It ends up being very complex if you have a lot of mirror queues."
"This solution could improve by providing better documentation."
"The UI. It's both a good thing and a bad thing. The UI is too simple. Sometimes you wanna see the messages coming to the queue, and you have to refresh the dashboard, the console of the product."
"The initial deployment was a little difficult."
"Extra filters would be helpful."
"Lacks sufficient inbuilt machine-learning functions for complex use cases."
"Some integration with other platforms like design tools, and ETL development tools, that will enable some advanced functionality, like fully down processing, etc."
"Tanzu Greenplum's compression for GPText could be made more efficient."
"I’d like this dashboard to use web sockets, so it would actually be in real time. It would slightly increase debugging, etc."
"Scalability issues are present. Most of our functions or jobs are queued due to that."
"The debugging capabilities and testing flexibilities need to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We are using the open-source version, so we have not looked at any pricing."
"The tool's pricing is reasonable and competitive compared to other solutions."
"ActiveMQ is open source, so it is free to use."
"There are no fees because it is open-source."
"I think the software is free."
"The solution is less expensive than its competitors."
"We use the open-source version."
"I use open source with standard Apache licensing."
"The price is pretty good."
"The pricing is okay."
"Tanzu Greenplum's pricing is really competitive and gives excellent value for money."
"It is the best product with best fit for price/performance customer objectives."
"This is an open source solution."
"It is an open-source product."
"The pricing for RabbitMQ is reasonable. It is worth the cost."
"Pricing is good compared to other products. It's fine."
