Broad perspective on strategic management exists but integration challenges hinder efficiency
The product execution part, such as planning and executing, is done through Atlassian tools, specifically Jira. We wanted to upgrade our ability to understand how all these products and teams are working against strategic goals, tracking expenses and time, but the integration between Broadcom Clarity and Atlassian Jira is very cumbersome and not straightforward. Their integration, even with ConnectALL, is just adequate, but it's never going to be great because they are actively trying to sell Rally. To make Broadcom Clarity a perfect product, I think with Jira, nothing can be done. To be fair, I don't know exactly how Rally integration works as I've only read about it, but I know that in marketing papers, it seems amazing with full-on integration, whereas with Jira, it just doesn't work that effectively.

Centralized planning has improved resource visibility and supports data‑driven financial decisions
The best features Planview Portfolios offers are visibility enhancement, robust system performance, and comprehensive resource management. This enhanced visibility in Planview Portfolios ensures that all users can easily track progress, identify bottlenecks, and make informed decisions to optimize workflow efficiency. When discussing robust system performance, the system's robust performance in meeting our various work requirements effectively and efficiently stands out. It is very stable and reliable, contributing to a seamless user experience, which enables users to focus on their tasks without disruptions. I also love the financial breakdown, planning and prioritization, and attribute collection on projects in Planview Portfolios. Planview Portfolios has positively impacted my organization since I started using it. It has enabled me to gain insights into the full scope of work consuming resources. I am able to know where the resources are being consumed more, especially which resources are consuming the most. I have been able to leverage resources management and resource time reporting, which enabled the generation of $90 million in annual revenue through labor billing to customers.

Excellent portfolio management SaaS - strategy, savings, visibility
I haven't used the product for over a year, so this could be out of date but entering information was somewhat cumbersome. PPM systems in general are a challenge to keep populated with current information. The business priority of portfolio visibility must be communicated to users and reinforced that the project doesn't exist unless it's updated in the system.

Pros

"We are able to track budgets, and with timesheets, actuals against budgets."
"Project management in CA PPM is elastic and comprehensive."
"People or companies looking for PPM tools can go for CA PPM as it is perfect for customizations and is user friendly."
"Provides an overall picture, it gives you the ability to store your capex, capital and expense budgets, on projects."
"Overall budgeting is probably the best use of Clarity for us, because we can see how much we are allowed to spend, how much we have spent, and then how much is left over."
"CA PPM provides an integrated view of the total set of projects in the organization."
"From a project standpoint, I think it actually works really well, because it is much more simplistic, and it is at that lower level."
"We just put all the data in one place and hopefully, after we have accurate data, we can make more decisions based on real data rather than gut feeling."
"The biggest impact has been the visibility into our IT assets."
"Planview Portfolios has been the perfect project management tool for me to manage the entire project life cycle from a centralized source, ensuring controlling, tracking, and delivering projects on time within an agreed budget and time frame."
"You can definitely tell that they are listening to customers and trying to do everything they can to build the best in show product in this space."
"The solution’s integrated product portfolio has transformed our organization’s strategy because previously we didn't have a specific tool which was being used for project management, people were using different sets of tools for managing their projects, and there was no centralized tool where the organization knew what people were working on, and this tool gives them that visibility on all projects."
"Planview has helped connect funding and strategic outcomes with work execution."
"It gives you the ability to see across a portfolio the cost and resource demands, helping ensure that we're working on the right things with the right amount of resources and giving us visibility into future demand to help us plan for resourcing."
"Having a single source of the truth, specifically with the integration with Power BI, enables us to give leadership more relative content for decision-making and it is now being leveraged heavily in the executive decision-making process."
"Planview Management integrates seamlessly with other tools and systems used within the organization, such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, customer relationship management (CRM) systems, and collaboration platforms."
"Very configurable software; almost any stage-gate process can be mapped and defined in the software giving excellent visibility to your project portfolio."

Cons

"Maybe we need to bring some financial executive reports to our directors and executives. Maybe we can improve the use of Jaspersoft."
"I wish patches would be quicker since we're a SaaS customer, and just be a non-event, so we don't have to go through a whole - essentially - upgrade cycle, just to do a patch."
"Could be using more updated technologies."
"The big improvement for us would be timesheet management."
"In the future, I would like to see integrated Agile features and better integration with Agile tools."
"they could improve the mobile app. I think right now it only offers time sheet. If they can integrate a lot of other components into it I think that would be helpful for the users."
"Personally, I think there are some things that could be a little better, particularly regarding response times."
"Customer service is okay, but not that great. Over the years the support level keeps on dropping."
"Its support to legacy paying customers is something PlanView is not handling well. We were unable to implement due to lack of professional support by PlanView."
"Customer service is hit and miss. Most of their support team will not respond to requests for real-time conversations and the gap in email responses drags what turn out to be simple solutions into days-long aggravations."
"The resource area needs improvement. The improvements that have been made recently in the later versions have been good improvements, but I think there are some more improvements needed there."
"It is not an end-user-friendly product, and that's really the biggest thing."
"I would suggest for the request module that they open up the fields and columns so it's like we are doing our work in the work module."
"So far, it has been good, but we've been in conversation with the vendor product team to improve the performance of the Work and Assignments module, because right now it is a bit slower."
"Visualization and reporting areas could use improvements by having canned reports."
"It could do with a quicker response time for some reports or portfolios."
"Entering information was somewhat cumbersome."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing is flexible, depending on the customer and the region."
"The price of Broadcom Clarity PPM is reasonable. My customers pay a license to use this solution on an annual basis."
"There are different licensing models with Broadcom Clarity PPM. With the software as a service model, you pay as you go, and if you are on-premises, you can buy a perpetual license and an annual fee for maintenance."
"Broadcom Clarity PPM costs us $500K, and that's only for the installation and kick off within the first year. For each succeeding year, it could cost $200K."
"Better understanding of requirements and how it will be implemented (with number of licenses for a given budget) would help."
"We're also moving to the latest version for less than $20,000 for a major corporate system. It's just amazing."
"The subscription is not that expensive."
"In recent times, I have been involved in the purchase of the license for this solution. However, the process of procurement changed and the option to buy individual licenses was no more available. The new subscription model was introduced, as a followed-up trend in the industry. The subscription costs put us in shock because it was double what we paid in the past as the yearly maintenance. We negotiated and the price was dropped. But this incident made me observe a lack of transparency from Broadcom in terms of licensing expenses. This isn't unique to Broadcom but seems to be a broader industry issue."
"When we went through that process, I believe it is competitive with others on the market. However, there are less expensive options available. It's a more premium offering at a higher price."
"We have portfolio managers, resource managers, project managers, and time reporting licenses. These are the licenses that we have."
"I think all in we are at $33,000 a year and that includes Projectplace and Planview. We used to have the integration to JIRA, but we don't pay for that anymore."
"In the time that I've used it, we've doubled up the amount of dollars on our intended projects."
"We have several hundred licenses. It costs us several hundred thousand dollars a year."
"Planview is a little pricey. From a licensing perspective, for just a simple timesheet user who does nothing in the system but reports time, the licensing is a little pricey, but you have to look at it from what it is that you get. We have 6,000 users, and I don't manage the system at all. I just have to do add them to the system. The servers, maintenance, OS levels, security patching for the OS, and all other things are not something that we maintain. So, you have to look at it from an operational perspective. It is not just the product itself. A holistic view has to be taken when you look at the product and how you're going to support it. I would have to hire an entire operation staff to bring it in-house, and at the end of the day, that might cost me more."
"The licensing part is a bit costly in comparison with the other available PPM tools."
"We overbought our licenses. We looked at our needs three to four years down the road and tried based our contract on that. However, we were over aggressive. We use about a third of the licenses that we have. We're looking to adjust the makeup so we can start utilizing the amount of money that we are spending. Right now, we're overspending, and my organization is not seeing the value in Planview because we are paying so much for licenses that we're not using."
