A dynamic solution with a lot of great out-of-the-box calculations, but integration with reporting utilities is a bit painful
One of the things that have always been a bit painful is the integration with reporting utilities. The current integration is with Jaspersoft, and there are a number of difficulties with that. If you're using out-of-the-box fields and everything, it is a bit slow and clunky. It has a drag-and-drop interface for the users. On the backend side, there is a report designer. They haven't given or allowed me any training on it yet. So, it has been a bit limited in its features. On one of the earlier report utilities, they had one called Actuate, which had VBA as its base programming language, and you could do quite dynamic things behind the scenes, whereas the Jaspersoft interface seems rather locked. So, you're limited in your options. Being a programmer, you like to have room to be able to invent and create rather than just being limited to a few selection boxes.

Makes it easy to prioritize work and has good automation capabilities and reasonable pricing
For me, it was very hard in terms of the learning curve because I didn't know the language of project management. The last time I built something, I was still using paper. That's the last company I opened, so being able to switch my head from paper to digital, from physical files to digital files, took adjusting. They nowhere talk about that in any of the videos, instructions, etc. All of the software assumes you know how to use it, which is a problem, particularly for older users or for people who are starting something completely new or starting something from scratch. A mind-mapping function of some sort to help you when you first get in would be very helpful. That's the biggest thing because you don't know what you don't know, so you don't know if you're missing out on features. You don't know if you're missing out on anything. There are just so many things that can be dealt with. I wish there were more templates because having to start from scratch was hard with a lot of things. It was not as intuitive. I wish there was a board builder function that could take you through creating your board and ask you the automation questions. Something like that, which is hands-on, would be very helpful.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Transparency and just having the ability to procure information that is pertinent."
"It has been able to collect all the data, and in some ways, provide dashboards of aggregated data. "
"It's definitely improving our ability to make better decisions, and improving the quality of data that we have, to make the decisions for the strategic good of the company."
"With the new UI, CA is heading in the right direction, and fast. They're adding features, I would say major features, two times a year, which is fast. They're adding features, I would say major features, two times a year, which is fast."
"We have a centralized view that we can have in our delivery and business organizations."
"You can identify resources by roles."
"Having information all together in one single source."
"I love the fact that it is very flexible. I am the lead engineer with enhancements, development, developing new portlets, anything that has to be added on, and integrating data, such as ETL processing."
"It has kept all our departments accountable and gives a quick birds-eye to see how projects are progressing."
"monday.com is an excellent tool to follow your project timeline to see where you are and where you want to go. It's super flexible. Thanks to all the automation, you can do practically anything with monday.com."
"The templates helped me to kick off process solutions for our team."
"monday.com is easy to set up."
"I like the ability to customize so that we can create a system that works for us, and easily iterate it as things change."
"The time savings alone is worth every penny and man-hour it took settings up the business profile."
"Since I'm using it for a variety of purposes, not just project management, I can customize boards and workspaces based on the needs of that particular workflow."
"Monday.com has allowed us to organize our workload in a much more efficient way."

Cons

"In the timesheet UX, you can't do things like splitting time, managing overtime versus regular time, very easily. That would be helpful."
"I would like to be able to do time submission and time approvals on mobile rather than have to go in the system."
"I would really like a modern UI. I do not want to get on a user interface and feel like I am in the 1990's."
"In the next release, I would like to have a little bit more functionality on chatbots in Clarity PPM, especially for support requests, such as for the most commonly used support tickets that people could resolve themselves."
"We're looking at adding the Agile piece to it. I want to make sure that that integration is very smooth."
"I'd like to see blueprints. I'd also like to see the user interface simplified, and to have a lot of templates available on each blueprint."
"There are some tool limitations. We had to create some of our own summary competencies to create more of an agile tool concept, or an agile team concept, that they did not really have."
"In terms of what could be improved, the end user interface could be improved to be more intuitive, because we sometimes have issues with customization. Sometimes we are not able to customize everything for the end user's interface, and they require more customization. We should be able to perform a deeper customization here."
"It would be ideal if Monday.com had this feature within itself, for example, if an input PDF or image was within it, then with one click the person can review it within Monday.com without going to different software."
"They have glitches every once in a while that will put employers in a position to not be able to use the platform."
"The mobile app is not as user-friendly and as adaptable as I'd like it to be."
"The product can be improved by allowing for some sort of autonomous deadline creation."
"It would be nice to have more customization around the documents, such as different title headings, fonts, etc."
"I wish there were better notifications and dashboard views with analytics around the status of projects, etc."
"The mobile application of the solution can be improved by making it more user-friendly."
"I believe the reporting functionality could be improved on monday.com. While some reports are accessible, this area has room for enhancement. For example, including a Gantt chart in project planning would be valuable. This addition could make monday.com more competitive with tools like Microsoft Project. Overall, I think there's potential for improvement in the graphical interfaces and reports provided by monday.com."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The subscription is not that expensive."
"The licensing costs are a little bit high, and unfortunately, it has been a while since I've had that paperwork in front of me. I don't remember how much it was, but it seemed like it was fairly high. It is probably comparable to some of the other solutions because I do know that, for example, on a lot of the AWS stuff, they found that the costs wound up being higher than having some on-prem solution. Comparatively, Clarity is within the price range of other solutions."
"There are different licensing models with Broadcom Clarity PPM. With the software as a service model, you pay as you go, and if you are on-premises, you can buy a perpetual license and an annual fee for maintenance."
"Cost-wise, the tool is very expensive and some tools might be able to cater to 80% of the functionality provided by Broadcom Clarity PPM but are not as expensive."
"Pricing is flexible, depending on the customer and the region."
"Better understanding of requirements and how it will be implemented (with number of licenses for a given budget) would help."
"It is hard for them to say, "I have a person on my team who is going to be available, I am going to move that task to them". That requires a project management license, it doesn't require a team member license, so the licensing model does not sometimes support the way the business world is going."
"The price of Broadcom Clarity PPM is reasonable. My customers pay a license to use this solution on an annual basis."
"Though I am unsure about the product's pricing plan, there is a need to make monthly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution, and it operates on a per-user plan."
"The enterprise plan looks expensive because we don't understand the value as monday.com users. The pro level and other packages seem reasonable."
"I am using the tool's free version."
"I rate the tool's pricing a six out of ten."
"The licensing cost is not that high for monday.com. However, if you need an implementer, the cost is high because there aren't so many monday.com professionals."
"The price is reasonable for the number of users we have."
"monday.com is pretty affordable. It's cheaper than Asana. There are four tiers, including a free version. The free version is fine if you don't have any complex projects. One of the most advanced plans is around $16 per month per user."
"I am using its free version."
