A network monitoring platform with a useful reporting feature, but permission-based options could be better
Pros and Cons
  • "Reporting on NetCrunch is pretty good. It's very similar to SolarWinds. It's just a different interface. The majority of everything there was beneficial."
  • "I didn't care for the role-based, permission-based options, which were not the best."

What is our primary use case?

It's basically used for network monitoring. It lets you know what's happening on a network at all times. For example, it lets you know if there's an intrusion or anything like that. I know you typically have a firewall to deal with that, but sometimes you'll find certain solutions that show that there's plenty of activity happening on this port or this IP,

What is most valuable?

It's pretty spot-on. Reporting on NetCrunch is pretty good. It's very similar to SolarWinds. It's just a different interface. The majority of everything there was beneficial.

What needs improvement?

I didn't care for the role-based, permission-based options, which were not the best.

For how long have I used the solution?

I used NetCrunch during the trial period. I had it up in a lab environment and tried to test most of its features.

November 2022
Find out what your peers are saying about AdRem Software, Paessler AG, SolarWinds and others in Network Monitoring Software. Updated: November 2022.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is fairly easy. Most of it's wizard-based. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to set it up. But if you don't know certain things related to protocols and everything else, it might be difficult. If you know how SNMP works, it'll be fairly simple to set up.

What other advice do I have?

I would tell potential users that it's great for the SMB market. I'm not sure about the enterprise market because I haven't tested it on a larger scale. For a small company looking to monitor a couple of sites, a couple of network devices, and a couple of servers, it'll definitely fit the bill.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give NetCrunch a seven.
