Dell PowerProtect Backup Services serves as our main solution for the backup and security of our network. It performs backups and controls everything from our physical servers to our virtual servers to even some of our edge devices that are out there just recording to ensure that they have a backup to restore and a backup for our incident response.

We are just starting to deploy the integration between Azure and Dell PowerProtect Data Manager. The biggest thing with Dell PowerProtect data services is our integration with Office 365 that we have been using for a very long time now, and that has been a key part to allow us to recover OneDrive, recover SharePoint, and recover anything in an email that we lost or we thought we should keep for a longer term.

Looking at Dell PowerProtect data from core, cloud, edge to edge, edge to cloud, edge to server as one utility tool, it allows us to do everything. It allows us to be at the cloud level, be at the edge level, and be in between at any stage in time. This allows us that seamless integration to have that single pane of glass to understand what is going on in our environment.

We have one that is on-prem and then one that is in the cloud. Our cloud is for our Azure and Office 365 backups, and then locally, we have an on-prem version that does our servers and workstations.

Some of the best features that we find within the suite of Dell PowerProtect Data Domain and Dell PowerProtect Backup Services is the integration into the vSphere portal, VXRAILs, and areas that have made it so quick and easy to use. The latest expansion into Dell Native Edge has also been a great feature for us to add an expansion into that.

These features benefit our company by allowing a small IT team like ours to not have to go to multiple panes of glass to see what we are doing. We can go right into one spot, see where our backups are, understand the situation, restore, make a new backup, move it, migrate it from one location to the other really quickly and easily without having to go into a lot of technical detail.

In the next release for Dell PowerProtect services, the final step would be to integrate both the on-prem and the cloud-based models that they are using, allowing us to get that final single pane of glass to function with everything in the product suite.

We have been using Dell PowerProtect Backup Services for probably about seven years now.

We have not had any performance issues. We have not had any downtime. It has worked very solidly for us. The only time it has ever done so is sometimes when we have to integrate an update. It does take a little bit longer for us to do it, but that is just part of the process. The larger the update, the larger the downtime window, but that is really what we are facing. However, it is a nice offset for the features that we usually get out of the update.

We were using Datto and Axcient as our backup solutions. We have had two different ones in different locations. They were both doing similar features. The one thing that we found is that they were not scalable. As we expanded our Datto environment, we needed multiple sources and multiple instances to do it. It became harder to grow to an enterprise level. It looked more at a smaller scale and did not allow us to do the growth that we needed. With Axcient, they had really continued to change their pricing model on us, which led to a lot of frustration of how we re-license this, whether this is what we want to do, and then trying to calculate the ROI based on their changes each year was a pain point.

The technical service side of Dell support is what makes it key for me. That one number to call, that one tech to call, to rely on support for not just the single product but the whole suite that we are there to do it. It is so easy for Dell to say this is a Dell PowerProtect Backup Services issue, this is a switch issue, this is that, and then they call the necessary resources, which makes it easy and allows my small team to focus on what they are doing and lets support do what they need to do.

When we implemented Dell PowerProtect Data Manager, it has been almost five to seven years ago now, so it is hard to remember back, but I do not remember anything that stood out that was hard to do. It was something that we just integrated, and it just started to work. The biggest part now is expanding it.

One of the examples where we have seen some return on our investment is where we have had issues on a database, on a server, on things on that order. Instead of having to send a DBA in to investigate the database and the errors within it, we can just quickly restore from an hour or two ago to get back to where we are needing. We do not need to go into that. We also use it for a lot of side testing where we are ready to upgrade a server. We spin this up in a different environment, do that upgrade, get it tested out, then delete it and then go through their upgrade process.

We have looked at some other vendors. The biggest thing that they do not have yet is that integration into vSphere, Dell Native Edge, and Dell Native Edge was a big one that they just were not there yet to do it. It just did not feel a good fit. The joy of a single pane of support also makes it very easy for me because I am dealing with a Dell product to back up, with a Dell server, with a Dell backup. It makes it so much easier to converse with the tech support side.

The big thing I would always tell people to look at is to look at not what they need today, but what they are thinking they are going to need years from now. Make sure you are finding a solution that will expand with your needs as your company grows and gives you a consistent model for an ROI and costing, as that is a key part of everything you do. I would rate this review as a ten out of ten.

Dell PowerProtect Backup Services has three major use cases. The first use case is Office 365 backups, which is cloud-native backup data born in the cloud. The second use case is endpoint backups for user machines. The third use case is hybrid environment backup, which means customers who have servers on-premises with VMware, Hyper-V, or physical infrastructure can back up to the cloud through Backup as a Service.

The advantages of Dell PowerProtect Backup Services are that customers do not need to invest anything on-premises and only need a subscription on the cloud. We have agents that push data to the cloud and a single dashboard for the three use cases mentioned. Customers do not need to order hardware or wait for delivery. Once the deal is concluded and booked, customers will have their backup environment immediately. It functions as managed services, so customers can directly start pushing data to the cloud.

Dell PowerProtect Backup Services is easy to integrate with the environment. Because it is a managed services offering, nothing needs to be done from the infrastructure side. Agents are pushed to the environment to start collecting data, and customers can log in to the dashboard to define data sets and backup policies.

The user interface of Dell PowerProtect Backup Services is simple to manage and can manage multiple use cases on a single dashboard, which is very valuable from the customer perspective.

Areas for improvement could include having SaaS backups for Office 365 to back up on-premises. The majority of customers who speak about Office 365 backups want to back up Office 365 on-premises, which means if they have SaaS backups, they need a copy of that cloud data in their data center. Because everything is happening on the Microsoft cloud and Azure, if this feature is supported in a simple way, it would be very beneficial.

Another idea for improvement is flexibility to be supported across different hyperscalers. Currently, it is supported in AWS. I understand that this may be irrelevant for customers because everything at the end of the day is managed by Dell. However, some customers may have subscriptions that they need to use. If there were another option in Azure or something similar, it would provide additional flexibility.

I have been selling Dell PowerProtect Backup Services for approximately two to three years. We had another product before, but Dell PowerProtect Backup Services has been in my portfolio for this timeframe.

The stability of Dell PowerProtect Backup Services depends on how the product is deployed on the cloud. Dell PowerProtect Backup Services is replicated across three regions, which means that if something happens in one region or data center, the backup data will still be available to the customer in another region.

There are additional features available, such as cyber recovery. If customers need to ensure that data is vaulted and immutable to protect against ransomware, they can pay extra to create a vault in AWS to ensure the data is protected.

In terms of scalability, Dell PowerProtect Backup Services is really easy to scale and is pretty scalable.

Regarding customer support, I did not experience anything about the support and did not have a history with the customer support for this product. I am assuming that because it is a managed services offering, customer satisfaction is a priority for this product to be sold.

The deployment process is straightforward. Because it is a managed services offering, the deployment is straightforward.

I do observe ROI with Dell PowerProtect Backup Services. Backups always provide return on investment. Sometimes it may not be a tangible return on investment, but the fact that I am not managing an infrastructure is actually reducing the cost of the environment because there is no one sitting just to manage that infrastructure. I do not pay for power or cooling for these devices. Everything is done on the cloud.

Dell PowerProtect Backup Services is fairly priced for backup services. In discussion with the company last year at Dell Tech World, the pricing model needs improvement because they are using shared resources. The sizing and pricing should be simplified. Competitors offer lower prices for Office 365 backups compared to Dell PowerProtect Backup Services. However, Dell PowerProtect Backup Services provides the ability to share storage resources between users. For example, if you have fifty users and each user receives thirty GB of storage, you have a pool of one and a half terabytes. Some users may not consume the full thirty GB, so you have a shared pool. This flexibility may not be provided by other vendors. During pricing discussions, this was a key point because there is limited space provided for users, and other vendors do not provide limited space. Based on that limited space, you need to do proper sizing, especially for the hybrid model. If you have an environment on-premises and need to back up to the cloud, you need to do proper sizing to determine how much cloud storage you need to back up your data based on the backup policy.

Dell PowerProtect Backup Services currently has deployments on AWS cloud for backup services. As I understand it, they currently only have deployment in AWS.

More built-in automations and AI-driven troubleshooting would also help reduce administrative efforts.

There is still room for improvement through more granular AI governance controls and greater transparency into its AI-generated recommendations and decision-making.

I have been using Dell PowerProtect Backup Services for the last two or three years.

Dell PowerProtect Backup Services is what we use in the development and testing environment to protect any virtual machines in the OpenShift environment and Kubernetes.

Currently, Dell PowerProtect Backup Services is not installed in a production environment; it is only in the testing and developer environment, and we wish to install it in a production environment. I cannot say much about my experience in production since I do not have that experience yet.

The best features with Dell PowerProtect Backup Services are that it provides a good experience using the Data Manager backup services, and we also have Dell PowerProtect Backup Services for Microsoft 365.

Our environment for Dell PowerProtect Backup Services in Microsoft 365 is currently small, but we will expand the capacity to more users in the future.

Some of the returns on investment I see with this product are security and saving time.

Regarding security or pricing, our experience is definitely limited, but I can say that support is good.

I think the pricing could be better, or they could improve support, automations, or customizations.

Dell PowerProtect Backup Services can be improved, and I want it to be even easier to manage, to secure the workload, and to restore easily.

The areas for improvement with Dell PowerProtect Backup Services include that it is a cloud solution and a SaaS solution for scheduling the tasks to protect workloads. It is not too easy; it is a little closed, as Dell PowerProtect Backup Services does not allow us to customize the schedule in backup tasks, which only has options for daily or twice a day. More options to schedule backup tasks would be better.

With the Data Manager, I have a little experience, just a few months.

Regarding stability, I find it to be a reliable and strong solution.

It is able to expand easily, and more people can be added.

On a scale of one to ten, I would score the technical support a seven. I give it a seven because sometimes the support delays the solution or does not respond properly in time. The skill of the support is good, but the response time is something that needs to be better.

I have experience with Dell PowerProtect Backup Services. We chose Dell PowerProtect Backup Services because we only use it in the controller environment. We decided to put it in this project because we have support for the PowerProtect Suite, and in the production environment, we have a NetWorker solution for backup. The PowerProtect Suite includes Dell PowerProtect Backup Services, which we installed in the developer and testing environments for this reason. I do not know the pricing. My overall review rating for this product is nine out of ten.

We only use Dell PowerProtect Backup Services for our VM backups. We have a VM running in the office, and it backs up not just to our location, but it backs up to other locations, to a similar Dell PowerProtect Backup Services in a different location.

The handiest feature of Dell PowerProtect Backup Services is that it syncs up our backups to other locations. We don't have to worry about our backups not syncing to other locations. It monitors and reports to us if there are any issues. I've been using it for two years now, and I haven't had an issue. The integration with VMware and cloud services has helped our data management. It comes back to our ability to restore to different locations. We actually haven't had to do that yet, thankfully, but the main thing is that we can. We do have that DR reliability elsewhere.

I don't know of a way that Dell PowerProtect Backup Services can be improved. It works and does what I need it to do. There are always ways to improve things, but I wouldn't know of one right now.

We've been using Dell PowerProtect Backup Services for about two years now.

We haven't had a security risk, so the role of end-to-end encryption in safeguarding sensitive information within my company is very good. The fact that we haven't lost any data, it's constantly there. I test the backups once a month. I test it in different locations as well, and there's never an issue with the data, so the encryption works excellently. I've been using it now for two years, and I haven't had an issue with it at all.

We haven't had the need to expand usage, so it works fine for what we use it for with Dell PowerProtect Backup Services.

I've always rated Dell with excellent support. Anytime I've had to use them in the past, they've always been good.

From what I know of the pricing. Dell PowerProtect Backup Services costs us around 10 grand. I think it was $10,000 initially. For what it does, it's worth it. It provides that reliability, so it is worth that cost.

Corporate did the research and determined this was what we would use.

The benefits of using Dell PowerProtect Backup Services are basically the backups being saved to external locations. That is the main benefit. It's our DR solution. If something happens, we have our data saved in a different location, in a different country, and we can instantly just restore a server in a different location. I've been using Dell products for over 20 years, and I've never had an issue with Dell. 

I've always recommended them to people, whether it be a home user or a business user. I rate Dell PowerProtect Backup Services a ten out of ten.

The main use case for Dell PowerProtect Backup Services is to backup all the data for the government in New Brunswick.
