Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Veeam's file monitoring capabilities are strong and consistent.""The solution is very easy to deploy.""Once you get it set up, everything is smooth, and the recovery is excellent.""The data backup replication has been the most useful feature. Previously, we copied the data hub to an external hard drive but now we are able to store the backup on one of the depository service.""I have found one of the most valuable features to be the integrity of the backups.""They introduced a new feature called the Immutable Repository feature, which helps protect environments from malware attacks that target backup file extensions.""The setup was straightforward Veeam Backup Replication. NetBackup is a larger solution and takes more time to implement but Veeam Backup Replication takes approximately 40 days.""It's simply very good software for backup purposes."

"The initial setup is simple.""VxRail alleviates the operational constraints within an organization.""It's a good product based on the features. You can upgrade the solution with only one click.""VxRail can manage the whole cluster at the same time, so it's easy to expand. VxRail has more features vSAN ReadyNodes that make it easier to implement from scratch.""We are very happy with the purchase, and it works well. It is fast. We went with the full-flash version, meaning that we have SSDs. So, we can build a Windows virtual machine in two minutes. We were surprised when we first tried to do that.""The stability of VxRail is good, we have not had any issues.""It helps our servers and it is very efficient.""Depending on your architecture type, it's simple to manage and implement VxRail compared to other solutions. That's why most of our customers use it."

Cons
"The solution could improve by having more user-friendly dashboards.""I have issues with the licensing.""The documentation and communication could be better in Veeam Backup Replication.""Lacks online training.""They need a better solution for backend storage.""They need full cloud integration such that an on-premises backup can be offloaded to the cloud for storage.""We have had problems with some jobs. For example, when we have a VM with a large SQL Database, sometimes we cannot adjust the time for transaction logs to back up and overlap time.""I have a problem with the VM. When we started doing a backup, it takes a snapshot for our virtual machines, but when we try it two or three times, in some cases, our virtual machines go to a consolidated state. I don't know why this problem happens. But I still think Veeam is a top-ranking solution."

More Veeam Backup & Replication Cons →

"The solution is okay to scale vertically but a bit difficult to expend horizontally. For example, increasing RAM.""It should not be deployed on one hypervisor. There should be multiple hypervisors supported like Hyper-V or KVM.""The upgrade packages require a lot of bandwidth. This could be reduced for an improved experience.""They need to keep upgrading the environment and improving automation so that the solution keeps getting better and better.""In the version that I was working with, the integrations are in need of improvement.""The scalability is limited to a single cluster with 64 nodes.""Right now, it's difficult for a non-technical person to participate in using the product. It could be made more consumer-friendly.""Its price needs to be improved. It is very expensive. NSX should be licensed together. It will make the network virtualization layer more usable. It would be better if they come together in a bundle, not separately."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "My understanding is that it is a fairly small price point."
  • "Its software solution has a fee."
  • "It is more expensive than other solutions."
  • "If you tell Veeam that you're competing with, for example, NetBackup or Backup Exec, or Dell or Micro Focus then they may lower the price. They are very competitive."
  • "I don't know what the costs are for sure, but I think that it's on a yearly basis."
  • "Its price is reasonable for a big company or a big client. It is not too much. It is cheaper than VMware."
  • "Its pricing is really good."
  • "Veeam Backup and Replication is a cost-effective solution"
  • More Veeam Backup & Replication Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "A typical node that I would sell to a customer has a list price be between $80,000 and $100,000 per node. Organizations typically start with four nodes. That's the hardware, software, VMware licensing, everything. Customers typically pay about half of that - approximately $45,000 to $50,000 a node. On average, it costs about $200,000 to get your foot in the door."
  • "It is just as cheap to move over to an HCI solution as it is to maintain a legacy system."
  • "VxRail is very cost-effective and affordable in the long term. It is more recommended when it comes to financial life, but it may depend upon the license. VxRail comes with VMware licensing, which may not be that cost-effective as compared to others. With VMware, it's an auto check competition. VMware is an expensive solution, especially for Nutanix. Nutanix have their own hypervisor called Acronis, which is very cost-effective against the VMware. Nutanix is cheaper for the hardware but not for the software. If you ask the Nutanix partners to deploy Nutanix over Cisco servers or Dell EMC servers, the cost will be higher. Nutanix wants to compete financially. Therefore, they propose their software over the Supermicro server, which is a very cheap Chinese server. In fact, I don't like their terms of service. HyperFlex has the highest price, and it is very expensive. I don't know why. It may be because this is a UCS system, which comes from Cisco and is already expensive. When it comes to HyperFlex, they need the labor to deploy Hyper-V, Citrix, or any other hypervisor."
  • "It's a mandatory cost with everything included"
  • "I live in Brazil, and my customers are from Brazil. It is quite an expensive solution. It is more expensive than the traditional environment."
  • "The price would be in the middle to the expensive range. It is not cheap."
  • "At about $200,000, this solution is a little bit pricey but it is more economical than others such as Nutanix or Cisco Hyperflex."
  • "VxRail is not cheap, but it's not expensive either."

VxRail is an all-in-one solution: "You don't have to worry too much about the hardware and you don't have to work on integrating a storage device. We instead have this as an all-in-one solution and everything is available as a box."

VxRail is remarkable: “The cover points feature in VxRail is remarkable. It's unique. It has an intervention failover system as well as an automatic failover system, reaching clusters existing in VxRail…

VxRail is a powerful performer: “...VxRail delivers a very high number of IOPS for a hybrid configuration or an all-flash configuration. The processors that are available in the Xeon family are very powerful. They are multi-core with typically 2 gigahertz, 2.4 gigahertz, or higher frequency, so the performance is very much appreciated.”
