Efficient data integration and good automation with challenging configurability
The application has a difficult-to-use parsing capability, which requires a lot of reengineering when the use case isn't specifically met. The application also lacks capabilities within its terminal commands that are not available in their GUI. It requires a lot of configurability, which could be streamlined for an enterprise application user.

Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The ingestion engines were pretty good."
"The crawler agents they provide, as well as TetraScience exclusive parsers, allow for specific instruments that we use in our labs with proprietary formats to extract data and put it into more standard formats for various purposes."
"Veeam Backup has many valuable features and every feature is different; I have created backups for file-level backup, VMware or hypervisor virtual machines, physical machines, and workstations as well, and every time I learn something new."
"This solution is very stable and reliable."
"Instant Backup is an useful feature."
"The most valuable features of Veeam ONE are the backup reports, such as the status of the storage."
"I spend 75-80% less time managing backups than I used to, troubleshooting is easier, and it has fewer moving parts than traditional backup solutions."
"They have some of the best vendor support around."
"The solution's customer service is good."
"It has helped us to protect our IP address and critical information."

Cons

"The application has a difficult-to-use parsing capability, which requires a lot of reengineering when the use case isn't specifically met."
"While functional during ingestion workflows, the automation toolkit required manual processes."
"The restore process is somewhat complicated for Veeam Data Platform."
"We would like to have the ability to perform more things on the web interface. The heavy client is still needed to perform advanced tasks."
"A backup and replication solution should be able to back up a system and do recovery very fast. Even though Veeam Backup & Replication is able to meet most of our needs, it would be better if they can make it faster for backup and restore."
"The only issue on which we would like to see for improvement would be, potentially, the ability to do some different things with recovery, like faster recovery onsite."
"Their licensing model could use some improvement."
"Since the solution has many options, it is not easier to give tasks to schedule it."
"The cost of adding additional sockets. It was a lot more than just purchasing an additional agent like you would for Backup Exec or StorageCraft."
"It would be useful if we could integrate our on-premise VM solution with the Azure workload backup from the existing console. This would assist our customers in reducing the cost of hardware."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Veeam Data Platform's pricing is affordable."
"It is highly cost-effective when compared to other solutions."
"Our licensing cost is $200 a year."
"If you tell Veeam that you're competing with, for example, NetBackup or Backup Exec, or Dell or Micro Focus then they may lower the price. They are very competitive."
"The product is expensive."
"I have not used the resale license in our testing environments. Sometimes, our customers used the trial license for 30 days and so on."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a five out of ten."
"It is more cost-effective than some of the other solutions, but a lot of that comes down to the fact that we're a reseller. So, depending upon the deal, we do negotiate different price points for different customers. The price varies depending upon the size of the customer, the size of the deal, and the discounts we can negotiate."
