Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The stability is fantastic.""There are a lot of options for customization of the dashboard, alerts, and reports.""Technical support is very helpful with our upgrades.""Reporting tools are a great feature along with the ability to create customized reports for you""What I've found most valuable about the solution is that it's scalable.""SolarWinds NPM is a scalable solution since it can handle a huge number of users.""I like the tracking feature to track devices and see where they are connected. This is very practical.""The most valuable feature is the way it monitors the environment, and how user-friendly the console is for the end-user. The interface is also very easy and it captures all the information very well."

"I find the episode review, glass tables, and correlation search features very useful.""The glass tables are very helpful.""Alerts and episodes are valuable to me.""The observability is great and valuable.""The solution has been stable.""We save substantial time on monitoring tasks because we don't have to search for what we need. Everything is packed, so you can drill down to the end values by just doing the kit. We don't spend a lot of time on this. Splunk ITSI is easy to use and not time-consuming.""It's scalable and expands well.""Splunk ITSI helps us secure our environment by allowing us to create automatons that run when alerts are triggered."

Cons
"The scalability can be better.""An area for improvement in SolarWinds NPM is the short retention period. Currently, it's just for seven days of data, which is very low, making it hard for my organization to keep that data. SolarWinds recommended a seven-day retention period, but my organization needs a fourteen-day data retention period. Hence, I'd like an increase in the retention period or the database limit in SolarWinds NPM because you can't go back to the data for any investigation if seven days have passed. Another area for improvement in SolarWinds NPM is the database, which needs to be a bit more mature. I want a modified database in the next release of SolarWinds NPM. I'd also like more options added to groups because, currently, it's very limited.""The only real caveat that we have or that I have an issue with is when I go on vacation, it's a little hard for me to go and modify alerts so that I don't get alerted about things when I'm on vacation.""Robustness of network element mapping tool could be better""The solution needs to integrate with additional SDN technologies that are part of the hyper market.""They need to work on their automation and automatically discover devices. They are not very good at automatically discovering devices.""SolarWinds NPM can be very slow at times. The database optimization can be done to improve the product performance.""The solution could improve in many areas, such as the marketing and description of the products, providing areas of improvement, cloud capabilities, and being able to be more streamlined with the current integration points with other applications."

More SolarWinds NPM Cons →

"We have problems doing upgrades and operating alternate new versions.""It could be a little easier to use with the thresholding. We've struggled a little bit with thresholding.""If the product had some prebuilt machine learning features, it would add value to our use cases.""The dashboard queries should be improved. More queries should be suggested in order to produce better dashboards.""The solution should integrate more features in NEAP.""Integration is the most critical area to improve in Splunk IT Service Intelligence (ITSI). It wasn't a great experience because you had to do a little back and forth to integrate the solution.""It is pretty okay. I am not sure whether the current release has already moved to the new framework where instead of the glass tables, we can directly use the Dashboard Studio. It would be nice to have that integrated into the same framework.""Splunk ITSI generates numerous false positives and has the potential for enhancement."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "There can be fees in addition to the licensing fees if you add on."
  • "The NPM component of the system costs approximately $1,000 USD per year."
  • "We have a multi-year license for the use of this solution. There are additional costs for recourses in the environment."
  • "Quite highly priced"
  • "There's standard licensing, and then it depends on the size of the customer."
  • "We pay a yearly licensing fee."
  • "Price could be improved on"
  • "We pay approximately $4,000 annually for SolarWinds NPM. There are no additional fees required other than the standard fees."
  • More SolarWinds NPM Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Splunk pricing is high."
  • "The pricing of Splunk is a bit high."
  • "Splunk ITSI is a pay-per-use service that is priced fairly based on the amount of data we use."
  • "Its pricing has been changed as per the market. You get a good support service with it as well. They have 24/7 customer support. There is a portal, and if you are having issues, they are available in order to resolve them. So, its pricing isn't too much."
  • "Splunk ITSI is expensive; however, with the appropriate use case, it justifies the cost."
  • "Splunk ITSI is an expensive tool, and we need to purchase the utility license."
  • "Pricing has some room for improvement."
  • "It is interesting. I am not involved that much lately, but if I recall correctly, you license primarily on the volume of data that you are using in Splunk ITSI, but there is no way Splunk can ever check if that is true, so that is interesting. We are not doing it, but someone can pretend to just use 10%, and it would be super cheap. It is tricky, but it is more tricky for Splunk than for us."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by PeerSpot users currently using the SolarWinds NPM solution.

PeerSpot user Andrew N., Senior Network Engineer at Element Critical, says, “The "Performance Analyzer" feature is the solution's most valuable aspect. It's able to do the bounded graphs of all the interface stats, from errors to broadcasts and to current traffic. With a click of a button you're able to, in one interface, look at historical data for those items.” He also adds, “From the troubleshooting point of view, just having that peace of mind is great. And, The solution is extremely stable. We haven't had any issues in that regard. We haven't had issues with bugs, glitches, or crashes."

Daniel S., Systems and Data Warehouse Supervisor at MMSD, mentions, “The alerting and usage tracking is a valuable feature because it alerts us when we're getting near capacity on disk space, network utilization or processor utilization. It helps us manage our capacity and enables us to be proactive.”

A Senior Vice President and CIO at a financial services firm explains, “As we look to add more servers to our virtual environment and to understand the impact, the solution allows us to dig into the historical charts related to capacity planning. It also gives us visibility of spikes and allows us to track down the reasons for their occurrences. So too, it makes room for potential processes that have gotten hung or runaway and to know when it's time to reboot a server or service.”

Dinesh N., Digital Innovation at Bobcat Company, states, “The best part of the solution is the sharing display. It gives a general public ID wherein everyone can link to a public display. That's a good feature.”

Fazal A., Implementation & Support Specialist at 360Factors, comments, “We have configured multiple alerts for our network devices, including routers and switches, so that we are notified if any interface goes down. In the event an interface goes down, we have multiple reports that include availability monitoring, network uptime monitoring, and network downtime monitoring. These reports are on multiple schedules such as the end of the day, end of the last business day of the week, monthly, and quarterly. This gives us the ability to provide reports to our management and let them know the performance of our network.”
