Facing a complex learning curve challenges, automation capabilities provide some clerical work savings
Oracle OBIEE has a steep learning curve compared to tools like SQL Server or Power BI. In situations where complex problem-solving is required, Oracle's support tends to direct users to sales representatives with limited technical knowledge, which is less than ideal. Additionally, the solution is more expensive than using Microsoft's reporting tools.

Intuitive, accessible through online, and well-known
The internet version is less user-friendly than the desktop version. The desktop version is their flagship, whereas the online version is considerably different, requiring all new learning. Despite its flaws, it is the best accounting software to use. I would like to see them take the desktop version and put it in the cloud, from which you can access it. However, because they have it drastically different, knowing how QuickBooks online works is an entirely new learning experience. That is the most serious issue. It's the equivalent of having to learn two programs. If they took their flagship desktop version which is awesome, and put that on the cloud and eliminated what is now known as QBO, that would be a wonderful thing. The desktop version is intuitive and makes sense. The users that only know QBO would also easily adapt to the desktop version. I don't know why they went in such a drastic direction with QBO.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"There are a lot of functions in the product, including a drill-down functionality and level-based hierarchies that are very attractive."
"The most valuable feature is the openness of the solution. It helps us integrate some of our clients."
"It is a stable and scalable solution."
"I have found the most valuable features are business intelligence and reporting."
"The centralized metadata model component is most valuable."
"The most valuable feature of Oracle OBIEE is the security of the solution."
"It's easy to create fully-functional Dashboards."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to run it in Exalytics within memory coupled to a Repository on Exadata is where it flies. So it's not meant for mom and pop shops, but if you are a global 500 fortune 1000 company, this is a tool that can get you what you need on time and even in real time."
"The most valuable feature is the collaboration around allowing many people to ask questions and see the dashboards together."
"The scheduling feature for salaries and taxes is one of the best features of QBO. It's also very user-friendly."
"The most valuable feature of QBO is that it can be reconnected at any time and anywhere. It is not like other software where you have to back up and restore the data."
"The most valuable features of QBO are its order processing and sales capabilities, as well as its invoice and batch processing capabilities. It allows for multiple batch processing and integration with other platforms, such as SAP V1, Oracle, and Dynamics BC. This makes the solution versatile and effective for customers, and they are satisfied with its integration with different platforms. The integration of this solution is not fixed, it can be based on the user's requirements."
"It's intuitive, electronic, and, as in the old days, eliminates the need for pen and paper. It is the only option. It's the best software."
"QBO has a very good reconciliation tool."

Cons

"There are a lot of aspects of Oracle OBIEE that are exceptionally complicated, make things unnecessarily difficult for everyone who uses it. In terms of the integrations, Oracle needs to improve a little more, but I believe that they have tried to capture all those issues. The issues we are facing in the Oracle OBIEE 12C versions, in the Oracle Analytical Server Center or Analytical Cloud versions, Oracle has managed to overcome the challenges."
"One significant improvement is the need for simplification. The set up could be more intuitive. An enterprise setup with HA and DR are pretty complex and to get a robust solution one has to play around with Real Application Cluster data sources and FAN notifications as well as WebLogic clustering and external load balancers. SSO also is not that simple to set up especially if you want all your Oracle systems to use the same SSO solution, i.e., no cheating with direct LDAP connectivity."
"The pricing of the solution should be bettered."
"Expanding beyond pure data reporting and into analytics, or expanding data science, would be areas for improvement."
"Oracle OBIEE only displays KPIs, but it does not include strategic objectives or display risk in a strategic map."
"I would like to see Machine Learning included in this solution."
"Warehouse and business intelligence are two different things, but OBIEE also has some warehouse features in it. I would like to see some of those capabilities improved."
"While it is a user-friendly, data-driven tool, the data modeling should be easier to use."
"Inventory capabilities are lacking in the cloud version."
"The internet version is less user-friendly than the desktop version. The desktop version is their flagship, whereas the online version is considerably different, requiring all new learning and having several glitches."
"The Linux Operating System feature is not available. When we access it from the accounting features, it does not transit to installation."
"The dashboards can be improved by making them customizable in a more granular manner."
"Compared to offline accounting software with many shortcuts and allows you to operate the software using the keyboard, QBO doesn't have the keyboard feature."
"QBO could be improved by adding more flexibility in its invoice and sales order processing capabilities. Customers have requested the ability to integrate with different retail services and the ability to easily integrate with different payment gateways, such as PayPal, by providing API and credentials, with the system automatically processing the integration."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Oracle products are extremely expensive."
"Compared with the other products in the market, I feel Oracle OBIEE is an expensive product."
"The company had twenty-five Oracle OBIEE licenses and never expanded. Price-wise, the solution is expensive."
"A person only needs to pay towards the subscription costs since it is a cloud-based solution. I use the free version of Oracle OBIEE."
"I think to spread this across an enterprise will be a significant investment."
"The price of Oracle OBIEE is expensive, it is difficult for a small business to afford."
"This is a very costly product."
"Pricing is an area that could be improved."
"In my opinion, QBO is a bit on the pricey side, but you have no choice. It is still better, in the long run, to go with their pricing or their software than the alternatives."
"The solution is expensive."
"I give the pricing a nine out of ten."
