Automation has replaced nightly monitoring and delivers reliable, unified job scheduling
We have really enjoyed working with JAMS in terms of notifications, alerts, and streamlining. There used to be a process with Automate, which is another product from Fortra, but even before that, the other division of the company that we were merging with had a tool that was built in-house called a file handler or file distributor. It was an in-house developed tool, but it was not as streamlined or as efficient as JAMS is. We literally had to have a dedicated nighttime person monitoring. Although we are 24/7, the divisions of the company that we were using JAMS for have been small scale. While we have automated it, we have streamlined it in such a way that notifications go out and alerts go out, but if there is anything, then we get paged and alerted, and if anything needs to happen at midnight, we can wake up. On the other hand, with the tool I mentioned, the file handler and distributor, we used to have a dedicated nighttime person that had to be sitting and monitoring it to see when a file arrived, whether it met the conditions, and then execute the next particular job. By using JAMS, we have gained a lot more efficiencies in terms of all of those to streamline it, and there is no necessary need for having an overnight engineer just keeping an eye on all of this.

Automation has transformed complex workflows and has empowered non‑technical teams to build flows
Regarding improvements for n8n, I would highlight two areas. First, while there is a growing community, the ecosystem of pre-built nodes for niche or proprietary systems still lags behind some commercial competitors. I often have to build custom HTTP request nodes or create my own node packages, which is doable but adds to project timelines. Second, features for team collaboration and lifecycle management are still evolving. Moving workflows from development to staging to production can be a manual export-import process, and native Git integration and more robust user roles for larger client teams would be a game-changer. Regarding needed improvements, I believe much of the existing documentation is not peer-reviewed. There is definitely a big community, but if the documentation or tutorials were approved or at least had a badge from n8n, customers would feel that this meets the standards of n8n editors themselves, which would give more confidence in the flows.

Future-proof and powerful with great support
Improvements include: 1) Cost of the Software. Redwood is more expensive than most of the other Automation Software available today; they could make it budget-friendly. 2) It has limited reporting features. Some basic reporting features are missing. 3) There is no option to extract data in Excel. This feature could help in finding errors in the data. 4) Integration with ServiceNow is not supported. 5) The cloud platform compatibility is not up to the mark. 6) Security standards need to be improved. 7) Handling failure is not great; the workflow stops when a job fails and human intervention is required. 8) Configuration and set-up are difficult for someone with less coding knowledge. 9) They need to provide more documentation to assist new users.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I appreciate JAMS for its readily available templates that allow me to create and deliver stand-up presentations within minutes quickly."
"The feature or capability to import a job is most valuable. We can import an existing job from different platforms, and all the configurations get migrated as well without modifying the code, job schedule, etc."
"By using JAMS, we have gained a lot more efficiencies in terms of all of those to streamline it, and there is no necessary need for having an overnight engineer just keeping an eye on all of this."
"Getting JAMS in place was a game changer for us back then."
"Our company is based on data. Everything we do is data-driven, so it has been very valuable having one place where we can process all of the data and do batch schedules with chunks of data."
"Fortra's JAMS helped us centralize job management across our platforms and applications. This is critical because we schedule tasks across multiple applications and operating systems, using triggers and start dates to coordinate their execution."
"JAMS has improved our productivity immensely because everything flows. I don't think we could operate at our current staffing levels without it."
"The most valuable aspect of JAMS is its robustness."
"The best features of n8n are its low-code capabilities with everything at your disposal."
"For lead generation, I gave all the contacts to n8n and made it write the email and automated the email sending workflow for lead generation, and the conversion rate was around 70%."
"My recommendation is to start with n8n if you have any need for automation or integration, especially if you value control, cost predictability, and technical transparency."
"The best features of n8n are reading documents like Google Sheets and Google Drive, and especially the AI agent functionality, the Agent Mode and AI agent nodes, which I find very amazing, along with webhooks and HTTP nodes."
"We see roughly a 70% reduction in manual processing time on the document pipeline side, which means our clients can focus on higher-value audit and compliance work rather than data entry."
"One positive impact that n8n has had on my customers' organizations is significantly less hassle over SEO or reaching out to clients and scheduling meetings."
"The low-code interface and the quick code writing within n8n that we can do and utilize is very helpful; it brings in efficiency, better time to market, and actually helps us."
"The best feature of n8n, in my opinion, is its flexibility, self-hosting capability, and the ability to build complex workflows with full control."
"There won't be a memory outage issue, as it uses its own server/ECC memory only."
"Error handling and the recovery feature ensure that my job processes are not stopped if any error occurs."
"Its monitoring and alerting features are what I found the most valuable."
"It can centralize and support on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments seamlessly."
"It conjures simplicity from the depths of complexity, effortlessly shouldering burdensome workloads."
"Redwood is more flexible and we can schedule the tasks based on different time zones."
"One of Redwood Software's features that I liked was its event-driven automation, which allows IT teams to respond to real-time events, alerts, and notifications from numerous systems."
"Redwood manages all complex job workflow processes."

Cons

"I want JAMS to implement a global search function."
"The only thing that they could improve on is the fact that they don't have a browser version of JAMS. It does come with a web client, but it's pretty clunky."
"JAMS handles exceptions fairly well but there are some areas where it might improve a little bit. It has to do with being able to automatically handle exceptions, out-of-the-box, rather than having to code them."
"Fortra is getting much better with documentation and examples, but there is still room for improvement."
"For the most part, JAMS is very stable. Occasionally, if you leave multiple windows open over a period of time, it is necessary to end that task and restart."
"JAMS has built-in reporting. I've never really used it. I tried using it a few years ago and I couldn't figure it out. It was wonky. It could be improved upon."
"The monitoring of the JAMS product and its performance is an area of concern for me."
"I would like to see the ability to interface with Microsoft group-managed service accounts, but they're still in the research phase. They need to ensure everything's legit and safe. The report designer and dashboards could also be improved. We're running 7.3, so I don't know if they have updated the reporting in 7.5, but I think the reports and dashboards could be better."
"There are limitations in scalability."
"In my experience, n8n is not very stable, but it has the potential to be more stable."
"I don't think it is highly scalable, but it is scalable at a moderate level for companies which have 200 to 500 clients daily; the daily throughput is of 200 to 500 clients."
"The setup of n8n is sometimes very complicated, especially with the HTTP node, which is complex to set up."
"Currently, most products nowadays include walkthrough or guide videos, short videos of 20 to 30 seconds that inform about any particular button or action, which n8n product does not have."
"They haven't fully helped tailor solutions for our needs."
"From my experience, n8n is stable, though the part that can be less stable is that you must stay connected to many APIs."
"However, I feel that for very complex production environments, it still requires considerable fine-tuning and knowledge, and sometimes it might not be fully ready to support large-scale implementations in production."
"The reports are downloaded in .CAR file format, which makes it difficult to convert to an Excel file."
"Adding machine learning and AI capabilities would enable Redwood to automate more complex business processes and tasks."
"We need the automatic creation of incidents for failed jobs."
"It has limited reporting features; some basic reporting features are missing."
"The addition of machine learning capabilities could help Redwood Workload Automation Software better predict job and workflow performance, detect anomalies, and optimize operations based on historical data."
"They should be made more cost-effective in comparison to similar software services."
"The user interface of Redwood can be improved a bit to make it more user-friendly and interesting."
"The price wise, it is not affordable. When we compare with other industry leading softwares and even the same scale, there are certain softwares that can compete with Redwood, but Redwood is very highly paced. So it is more SAP friendly, I would say, at this point. Since it was owned by SAP for very long time, they have made it SAP friendly. But if you look at the tool as a enterprise tool. Like, in general, it is not really that great as a tool. So you can you have better options when you couple it with SAP. But if you would like to control your enterprise level applications, anything after that, like, Azure AWS and things like that Oracle."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"All licensing models are a little overpriced, but JAMS offers a good value, especially given their support response times and ability to handle unforeseen issues like the SFTP transfers. I hope to find more use cases to get a better bang for our buck."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"It was $10,000 for the first year. Then, there is a maintenance cost for licensing every year that we get billed $5,000 for every year."
"In the end, you'll find that it's really worth the price. There is some sticker shock, but it's worth every dime."
"JAMS is close to the lower end of the pricing models for enterprise scheduling solutions. They are much cheaper than Control-M, as well as some other products that I've used. I also don't know of another solution where you can actually get true, unlimited licensing, where you can have as many instances and as many agents as you want."
"The pricing of JAMS has not been an issue for us, as it has allowed us to save time."
"JAMS is relatively inexpensive, with additional costs only incurred for tags, other services, and optional support renewals."
"Definitely check how many single processes you want to run and count them as jobs. That is how you would work out your pricing on JAMS. For example, if you're running a number of commands and you can put them all into one script and run that script, you can count that as one job."
Information not available
"It initially surprised me because we went from an application that was priced by connection to agents/the number of agents to an application that was priced based on the number of job executions. At that time, many of the products we looked at were also priced on job execution. That seems to be more common in the business or in the vendors that provide solutions out there, but that was probably our biggest difference."
