Facilitates seamless data aggregation with some outdated visual elements hindering user appeal
Real-time data integration is an area for improvement. Although I've worked on several solutions involving real-time integration, it's not very user-friendly and often lags, especially with over a million data rows. This makes Power BI difficult to manage as loading times can reach one or two minutes, which is problematic today. There are challenges with scalability, requiring multiple pages in dashboards to manage these issues. Visualization could be improved as it appears outdated. Users, especially newcomers, find it unappealing and not user-friendly.

Integration and security have improved, but search functionality and clarity of future direction need enhancement
The search function in SAP Analytics Hub is not effective. When speaking about integration with various analytic sources, for example, if I wanted to send the data from SAP BW or B4HANA to a data lake, we used to earlier use the Open Data Hub or Analytics Hub. Nowadays, we are using the Data Sphere integrators available with Amazon, Azure, and Google Cloud. The search capability could be better, and SAP needs to come out with a clear roadmap for the solution going ahead, as they have not yet provided that.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Power BI allows you to create user defined charts which is really useful."
"Implementation is very quick and the solution is very user-friendly."
"The solution is stable with reasonable performance."
"It is in the cloud, which makes it easy for mobile access of reports and data."
"The product can go easily go and extract data and it can put it into any format."
"What Power BI is, is a whole collection of templates of small amounts of data that can be used to do something for a real world project, that can be easily set up and become the business intelligence environment or a data warehouse for a large amount of data, for a real world customer. That's what is remarkable."
"It seems stable. I haven't heard of any difficulties from my clients that utilize Power BI."
"There is continual improvement year-over-year."
"What I like best about this solution is that it is built into the SAP line, making it easier to integrate with other SAP products."
"SAP Analytics Hub offers a user-friendly interface with effortless configuration, seamless updates, and real-time availability of information. It avoids the complexities associated with batch processing, providing a smooth and efficient experience."
"This product provides good reports using a single pane of glass."
"The platform's main benefit is its integration with SAP ERP data. It’s effective for data integration and integrity."
"Data consistency is also a notable feature; the system takes care of data consistency, so you don't need to handle it manually."
"For report scheduling, I always prefer SAP because it has the most powerful scheduling features, like sending reports to more than 1,000 customers per day. That option is not as good in Microsoft BI and in Tableau it only exists as an add-on option."
"As a partner, I can mention something positive about SAP Analytics Hub: its products are tightly integrated, so the business context of data is retained in the analytics solution, and that's the main advantage."

Cons

"Microsoft is behind IBM when it comes to security features."
"here are some limitations with the data models needed to build the report."
"Trend data and dashboards need improvement."
"The admin view could be improved by making it more simplified to manage a users' activity and other things."
"It is not the right tool to do deeper analysis or predictions. When you have some data and you want to do some deep analysis, there is no feature to help you with this."
"If you have to pull multiple data sources performance is somewhat lacking."
"I would like it to be a little bit more secure when I'm using the design feature on my desktop. For example, to have the ability to set up security passwords for opening the file. Currently, they don't have that. Tableau, for example, has a visual way of doing data processing steps, whereas the Power BI system still has some code, although it is very low code. It would be great to have the kind of view that Tableau has."
"Automation could be improved and performance enhanced."
"The platform could easily integrate with other ERP data solutions. Additionally, it should be faster compared to competitors in the cloud space."
"The analytics part of SAP has not been that good up until now. They're still in the infant stage and development is still going on. SAP has some cloud analytics and they're trying to configure it in Lumira, but it's not that good at this point."
"Pricing and support are integrated into the system. However, the support process can be challenging, particularly when navigating the SAP support site, which lacks user-friendliness and ease of access."
"The search capability could be better, and SAP needs to come out with a clear roadmap for the solution going ahead, as they have not yet provided that."
"Faster implementation of new functions for the new product is an area of improvement in SAP Analytics Hub."
"The interface can be simplified because it is not a user-friendly experience."
"The technical support for Analytics Hub is limited and could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Compared to others, I think it is reasonable."
"I'm unsure about the exact cost, but the Pro license comes out to around $10 per user. There are also additional costs for custom visuals that you can pay for."
"Microsoft BI is free for the personal edition, but there is also a paid-for professional version."
"All of the licenses are on an annual basis, but Microsoft will amortize it to an extent. If it's five years, they'll include the possible interest they might have the following year. Ideally, their licensing scheme is an annual license, but they make it easier for some of our clients to take a five-year license but package everything inside for them to buy the license for five years."
"It is a cheap solution for our needs."
"The price of the license can be better."
"There are a few options available for purchasing a license. Typically the number of users you have will determine the price of the license. The more users you have the more you will pay."
"You don't need a license for development, but if you want to publish to external users, you need a license. The licensing is very costly, but I think that since the advantages and benefits of Power BI are so high, people are willing to pay. I can't blame them."
"They are pursuing a highly assertive approach to target businesses of all sizes within the industry."
"It is an expensive solution."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"The product is expensive."
