Low-code AI workflows have streamlined content curation and currently support rapid app creation
Microsoft Power Apps could be improved because there are still a lot of jargons and too many moving parts. For example, if you look at Copilot, the term Copilot is confusing in the sense of whether it is Copilot in M365, Copilot Studio, or Copilot in Microsoft Power Apps. There is a plan designer which uses Copilot. The whole thing how AI has been positioned is still not lucid for the end user. An end user wants to know exactly what they want and where they go to get it. I think that could also be because things are evolving so fast. From an end-user perspective, the way it has been positioned, the clarity and the boundaries between the different types of offerings and AI offerings available is confusing as of now. There should be better clarity on that. The biggest issue I have, and I have also spoken to a few of my clients about this, is the licensing model. In traditional software development, almost 95 percent of the time, the development team bears the cost of the licenses. For example, if I develop something, I may have to pay licenses for four or five different software that I use. As a user, if you use my services, you probably pay something to me as a subscription, but you do not have to bother about the licenses. All that is wrapped under the hood. Unfortunately, in Power Platform as such, and even in other low-code things like UiPath, if you use a premium feature such as Dataverse, almost everything ends up using Dataverse or SQL Server or some relational database. If you use that, then as an app builder or app maker you have to have a premium license. The end user too would need to have a premium license. That really makes the adoption prohibitive. It is too expensive. We are talking about something like around just for Microsoft Power Apps alone, approximately twenty dollars per month, which is extremely high. Another point to consider for what else can be improved in Microsoft Power Apps is that one does not know what compute power one is getting when one buys a license. If you look at the licensing model, you will get to know how much of Dataverse storage you will get in terms of log storage, database storage, and file storage. However, you do not get to know how much of compute power is being given to you. I do not think Microsoft has an SLA saying that any request of a certain amount, such as MB per second, you will get a response time of whatever, one by sixtieth of a second or some millisecond. I do not think that they have that performance SLA in place. They do have storage SLA which comes with the license, but they do not have a corresponding SLA for performance.

Citizen developers have automated finance processes and created reusable modules across entities
There are some weaknesses, though nothing on the top of my mind at the moment. From a process and OCR point of view, for example, we are currently doing a use case about e-invoicing. We feel the accuracy that the OCR provides from UiPath Studio was not as high as we had initially anticipated. We had to not go with that module that UiPath Studio offers. UiPath Studio has an a la carte mode where you can buy specific functionalities without having to buy the whole package. We decided to test out a few other tools in the market and bought a customized tool specifically for OCR purposes because UiPath Studio's accuracy was not as great. It comes more on a use case-to-use case basis. Certain use cases that we try show that certain functionalities could be improved, and there is definitely a scope for improvement. That being said, the functionalities that we bought UiPath Studio initially for work pretty well. We wanted a centralized automation hub, an Orchestrator, and maximum license utilization for the bots we were purchasing. They are basic, but at the same time, they are easy to use. The ease of use is one of the main reasons why we still favor UiPath Studio. The AI and OCR parts are something we are looking to explore more in the coming year, and that will probably give us more insights into the functionalities and their value. At the moment, we use Oracle as our ERP. We have not had much success integrating with Oracle so far. UiPath Studio offers a lot of customized integrations for SAP, but not much for Oracle Cloud. We had to leverage our internal ERP in-house team to build integrations. We used Oracle Cloud integrations rather than UiPath Studio integrations with respect to ERP. Every conference or event that UiPath Studio organizes, when we have a chance to speak with someone from UiPath Studio, we bring up Oracle Cloud integrations. I believe that in Europe and the US, Oracle Cloud is growing in usage, so we would appreciate more effort focused there. However, with Salesforce, we used a couple of cases with customer service in our company, and we integrated with it very smoothly without any blockers. At the moment, we have not explored AI and ML capabilities of UiPath Studio as much as we should have. We conducted a series of process discovery workshops in our company, and the use cases we received did not require AI or ML functionalities because they were core finance operations, and we did well with just the regular functionalities of UiPath Studio. We are still looking forward to finding a case where we could leverage AI and ML capabilities. We do not want to use AI functionalities just because we want to use them. It is more of a situation where we ask if it is needed, and we are still looking forward to finding a case that demands the need for AI functionalities or a nice-to-have feature. At the moment, we still have not used or explored those things of UiPath Studio.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I'd advise people to consider working with the product; it works very well with the other products of Microsoft in general and integrates with Microsoft Teams and other apps, which is helpful if you use a lot of Microsoft."
"For all no-code platforms that let you create a front end, you can click together something very quick."
"It is stable and reliable."
"I like the containerization of Azure."
"In Microsoft PowerApps the most valuable features are the fully customizable design that we can control everything that we would like to control. For example, the integration between Microsoft and third-party services through pre-built connectors, and the functionality to create custom connectors."
"The product's initial setup phase is very easy."
"For our purposes, it is quite scalable."
"The most valuable aspect of the solution is the fact it is highly customizable; all types of forms can be created to collect information, pictures, and files, and with PowerApps you can connect your application to a wide variety of databases and applications where your data lives to read or write to it."
"There are a lot of great things in UiPath Studio; whatever is required for the development is there, and I do not think I face any difficulty during the development of any use case from UiPath Studio's side."
"Right now we have it deployed, and it is dealing with about 50% of our document volume."
"Compared to other tools, UiPath Studio licensing cost is low."
"The fact that with UiPath Studio we can build reusable modules that we can use across automations has been specifically very useful to us as a company and team driving this project."
"I have seen a return on investment because we have saved around one million dollars on a yearly basis with our 1,000 bots."
"UiPath Studio is good for automating business processes and repetitive tasks within my company."

Cons

"They get expensive when you start to go to non-internal users."
"If they would reduce the price, that would be an improvement, and they should also improve their customer service support, because the last time I contacted them it took one week to resolve the issue."
"Microsoft PowerApps is not scalable. Everyone can build their own automation and there isn't a single repository where you can share or make sure that you're using the same automation."
"Customization, in general, is somewhat complicated."
"The documentation isn't great. It's only 75% of what you need to know. If you go beyond that and run into issues, it's really not going to help you."
"The user interface is pretty good, although it is a little bit clunky and can be improved."
"There is always room for improvement in stability."
"In terms of workflow automation, I believe that capabilities for creating the entire business process are required, or, at the very least, the option to model the business process, define complex business events, handle them, and route them to appropriate business stakeholders."
"Some of the recent upgraded versions, the package sometimes create problems, so that has to be tested first and then it should be available in UiPath Studio, because everybody wants to use the latest package, but sometimes when we are using the latest package, it creates problems."
"We feel the accuracy that the OCR provides from UiPath Studio was not as high as we had initially anticipated."
"In terms of improvement for UiPath Studio, while we are currently using the AI capability, I find that Copilot is not that reliable."
"On the improving side, concerning costing, I am not sure because the cost of the new product is very high."
"We are not seeing improved ROI because the bigger chunks of use cases we have already addressed. When we take it down to the medium size, the cost of development and deployment is something which is prohibitive and it doesn't make a good financial business case."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It might be too complicated to continuously monitor the business consumption and what to pay."
"The platform's pricing is reasonable."
"Typically, it's $20 per user, per month, commercial. For the government, on a per user basis, what we were looking at is $11.23 per month."
"We use the Office 365 package, and Microsoft PowerApps is a part of the package. We don't pay any separate price for this. There are no additional costs. We just pay for the Office 365 package."
"The cost for licensing could be lower."
"One of the main things about this solution is the price. The cost for Salesforce is $35, $25, or $10 per user per month. PowerApps costs much less than that. It is at a good price point. It may change in the future, but at this point, its price is pretty fine."
"There are two licensing costs, one is pay-as-you-go, or you can develop it for one year."
"It was about $40. There are people that are lower than that, however, they don't give you the features."
