Has supported complex data pipeline creation but performance tuning and monitoring responsiveness need improvement
Sometimes, I see various performance issues with Informatica PowerCenter, including caching concerns, whether it's a joiner transformation or other transformations, so I believe the team can enhance the performance perspectives of these transformations. Additionally, sometimes the Informatica Monitor hangs or takes time to open the current run or logs, which the team can also look into. Informatica is transitioning to cloud solutions and discontinuing on-premise support after 2026, so when we discuss Informatica Cloud and its support, it becomes quite expensive for the organization compared to peers such as SnapLogic or Netezza, which offer lower pricing. Informatica Cloud Intelligence's pricing is notably high.

Has supported building flexible data pipelines and streamlined ETL orchestration
There should be a dedicated support team for Talend Open Studio. We do have a support team, but at times it is critical for us to fix certain things within one or two hours. Usually, the support team takes some 12 hours, which is the standard edition of support. If we could have round-the-clock support, we would be able to resolve many issues which we encounter during the development part. The initial setup for Talend Open Studio is a little complex. We need to have a dedicated person who has an understanding of Talend Open Studio as a tool. It takes some level of expertise, so it is not an easy process, but once we have a dedicated associate who is knowledgeable in that particular field, it becomes comparatively easier.

Effective data transformation and integration in complex environments with high functionality
Something that could be improved in WSO2 Enterprise Integrator is that the problem is not a lack of capability or functionalities. The problem is that it is a very complex environment. To put your hand on this environment is a very demanding task. This is the real problem. The problem is not about the product, but about the complexity to manage, to configure, to decide what to do. I have some experience using SAP R/3. It seems to me something similar. When you have to configure a situation with a client, especially for a client not in an industrial sector, but in a service sector, it is quite usual that you are in trouble for some reason. This is always the story that I found in the implementations I have done. Maybe there are only three or four big problems, in some other cases there are more than that, but this is the situation usually. For WSO2 Enterprise Integrator, not the same, but I must say it is quite often there is a need to put together some pieces and make it work in a coordinated way.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Once you figure it out, it is a powerful and simple ETL tool."
"The product's initial setup phase is very easy."
"Informatica PowerCenter is a very good ETL tool."
"The most valuable feature is the new Data Lake feature, which provides the basic capabilities needed."
"It has good standard features for ETL development."
"We use Informatica PowerCenter to transfer the transitional database to and from the data warehouse. This is very efficient as it enables us to quickly find our data reports and the data, so we can build AI models."
"What I like most about Informatica PowerCenter is that it's the best tool in the market for data integration. Currently, I work in L'Oréal, where a new system from SAP is used. Informatica PowerCenter integration with SAP is very, very fast and very, very simple, so you have the server flow from SAP, and through Informatica PowerCenter, you can ingest the data and make that data available for the business more quickly."
"It's a complete package, which is why we use this solution."
"It is a good enterprise solution."
"The rapidity of integration with data may be one of the valuable features."
"We're sold on the customization part of the solution."
"Open Studio's best features are that it's user-friendly, even for beginners, and very easy to implement."
"We're able to handle large amounts of data with ease."
"The solution has quite a good range of scalability, and the jobs are quite scalable since we have now integrated them with Docker so we can follow all the principles of microservices."
"It's great software for someone who is starting in this area."
"The most valuable feature of Talend Open Studio is the tMap component. There is a lot of functionality in one component."
"The productivity is the most valuable feature; it is very easy to write remediations."
"The most valuable aspect of the solution is the integration between core banking and other systems."
"It was mostly easy to set up the product."
"WSO2's analytics capability is good, considering the ELC support they provide."
"The connectors have been the most impactful features for handling integrations. I can use these connectors when I need specific connectivity with a third party, like a core banking system in BFSI. I don't need to do all the development. I take the specific connector, put in the IP address and password, and it takes care of everything."
"The stability is excellent."
"It's a very complete product. It allows us to network security and add more layers of security to the system."
"The solution's customer service is good."

Cons

"PowerCenter could integrate better with cloud applications. We had to do a lot of configuration work using API integrations to connect with cloud applications. Informatica Cloud Data Integration has a generic connector that you can use directly, so it's much easier."
"The performance of Informatica PowerCenter could improve."
"There can be scalability issues. Huge amounts of data ingestion will impact performance."
"One of the things that I found lacking is that there should be some sort of a calculator where you can input your requirements regarding the number of data switches required, number of users, and the number of data switches in order to get a general idea of cost."
"We had stability issues, mostly with JVM size."
"Areas for improvement in Informatica PowerCenter include scalability and high availability or the clustering configuration because that's still very basic."
"The reputation of Informatica is that it is expensive."
"The solution can improve by providing more connectivity by having native ODBC or JDBC connections available."
"The two things that Talend lacks is an MDM and the CDC."
"We have never received responses to our queries from the company, so we are totally unsatisfied with the support."
"The price for Talend Data Integration should be less expensive."
"It is not as visually appealing as some of the other tools."
"The user interface could be made simpler."
"The documentation is lacking within the product. They need to get better at all aspects of describing how it works and how to use it."
"There is room for improvement in the performance - it gets the job done but it can be a bit slow, but then it is a free product."
"In terms of what can be improved, the scheduling is not there in the sister version, while it is there in the cloud one, which is a paid version. If all kinds of scheduling could be available on the Open Studio that we generally use and practice on, that would be great. The scheduling of the data migration is currently not available in the sister version of Talend Open Studio that we are working on. It is available in the advanced version of the Talend. This is the one thing that can be improvised."
"They should introduce better pricing for small companies."
"The administration side is complex and could use significant improvements to enhance the solution's functionality."
"The server is very specific and it is very difficult to get experience with it."
"If I have to buy software, then it becomes expensive for me."
"One of the reasons that we are looking for a replacement is their way of defining integration. The language of the XML structures that I use to describe the integrations are not that standard, and it's not easy to find people who are familiar with this approach."
"The main issue with the product is pricing. It uses core-based pricing for WSO2 Enterprise Integrator and API Manager. It would be best if you had APIM by default. It provides many connectors for easy integration with third-party systems."
"The micro integrator should be improved. There is room for enhancement considering alternative integration components."
"Most of the issues we run into with the WSO2 Enterprise Integrator deal with customizations."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing for Informatica PowerCenter isn't cheap, but if I compare it with IBM, it's as expensive as IBM, however, Informatica PowerCenter is more innovative, especially when compared to a giant company such as IBM that has thousands of products. Informatica PowerCenter is limited only to data management, but it has new features that come out every quarter. Points for ease of use and flexibility go to Informatica PowerCenter, but price-wise, IBM and Informatica are equal because they're both expensive."
"I consider this to be an expensive product."
"Licensing is a one time cost. But maintenance costs depend on what you want, how long you need it. Maintenance is a kind of insurance. With health insurance, you don't know whether you will get sick or need to go to hospital or not but you have to have insurance. It's the same thing with support. If you have that expertise in resolving issues, if you have enough experience in your IT department, I would say you don't need the support. But in practice, they recommend you go with the support. If you want support you have to pay for it."
"The pricing is a little expensive, but in the same range as IBM and other competitors."
"A basic setup can be from $100,000 and up annually."
"The price is mostly reasonable."
"It is for big enterprises. We have leveraged Informatica for big enterprises but not for small and medium enterprises because it is a very costly product as compared to other products. We propose this solution only for enterprise customers. For small to medium enterprises, we would propose the Microsoft solution. Its licensing is currently bundle-wise. It should be features-wise and not bundle-wise."
"I rate the solution's pricing a four out of ten. The price is very high, and it doesn't understand the market now."
"I am using the open-source version of the solution, so there are no extra costs for any feature."
"The solution will be more expensive if you have a low data volume and a large number of developers."
"It is an open-source tool which means it is a free solution."
"Talend is free and you can download it."
"I am using the open-source version and it is free."
"For Talend Open Studio, there is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing cost. Talend Open Studio is a bit expensive, in my opinion."
"There are many versions available and one is open-sourced which is free."
"Price could be lower. It is getting too expensive when compared to some other solutions, which is actually a little bit concerning."
"The pricing of WSO2 Enterprise Integrator for enterprise subscriptions can be considered expensive, especially from the perspective of someone who prefers open-source software."
"It is a low-cost solution."
"The cost is better than IBM Cloud Pak."
"The open-source, unsupported version is available free of charge."
"I rate the product price a six on a scale of one to ten, where one is low price and ten is high price."
"The solution costs about 20,000 or 30,000 euros per year, per instance."
