Pros
"It provides a comprehensive monitoring solution for our open systems.""It is easy to implement but requires good planning.""You can integrate clouds, hybrid infrastructure, and on-premise infrastructure into one product.""It is the foundation for our monitoring solution.""Technical support is great.""It's easy to push out across numerous servers. Very scalable.""The ability to monitor any platform. We have Windows, Linux, AIX, and mainframe all being monitored with the same UIM infrastructure.""Monitors the infrastructure asset and also monitors as an IT service."

"The additional vendors we've brought on board, particularly the elastic, have been quite beneficial.""The solution has proven to be quite stable.""It gives us the liberty to do more in terms of use cases.""Splunk Enterprise Security helped us with faster detection of threats.""Splunk has helped improve our company's resilience level.""It has reduced the time to resolution, time to investigate, and time to troubleshoot for debugging issues.""Search language is easy to understand and teach to new users.""The solution allows easy gathering and ingestion of the data."

Cons
"The company has not kept pace with developments.""It would be good to implement views showing the aggregated status graphically.""The other element is that there are no real templates, out of the box. Let's go with an example where we do have the probe, which is great, and we do have a really nuanced customer with a small set of devices that maybe not a lot of other customers use. There might not be a template in place, so effectively we have the tool in front of us but we still need to develop a solution. So it would be really nice to see a little bit more of something like a central repository of templates that we could use. That would help us expedite our onboarding process.""I'd also like to see more probes. More probes in the sense that we were coming across devices that we're expected to monitor and manage for which, out of the box, there isn't a nice, clean solution. There are probes that are dedicated for certain devices and certain device types, which is great. But then there are times we come across nuanced products that we have to develop our own solution for. There are probes that exist in there that allow us to make a customized solution, but it takes a lot more time.""We have experienced challenges with finding a mechanism to deploy the agents, but it's only on the first deployment so it's not a big issue.""The only challenge that I have with this solution is the reporting part. The users are not really comfortable with the kind of reports they are getting. Sometimes, they want to see reports in their own format. Customizing those reports with Jasper is not very easy. It could be because of the knowledge gap. If you have the knowledge of how Jasper can be configured to suit customer requirements in terms of reporting, it is good. There was a time a customer complained about one issue related to Netflow analysis. Broadcom has a separate model for that, but the customer wanted everything bundled together. It could also have IP management so that I am able to see or analyze IPs so that the IPs that are already in use don't get assigned.""Reporting capability can be improved especially when it comes to availability.""The UIM has no features through goods and services yet. "

"The upgrading process could be smoother.""Splunk is not very user-friendly. It has a complex architecture in comparison to other solutions on the market.""We usually have to follow up with technical support on our open cases.""Its user interface for everything other than the charts can be improved. Some parts of it can be simplified a bit, such as when importing documents that have the network traffic. When you're going through the information about the network traffic, you have to have the expertise, but even if a program is supposed to be for IT support, it is good to make it user-friendly because it gets easier to train people. When something goes wrong, the more difficult a program is in terms of UI, the harder it is to fix the issue.""The setup time is quite long.""A problem that we had recently had was we licensed it based on how much data you upload to them every day. Something changed in one our applications, and it started generating three to four times as many logs and. So now, we are trying to assemble something with parts of the Splunk API to warn ourselves, then turn it off and throttle it back more. However it would be better if they had something systematically built into the product that if you're getting close to your license, then to shut things down.""It can be tough to get a hold of somebody in technical support depending on the complexity of the issue.""The prices are complicated as we operate in a small third-world country."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "This product is expensive compared to other vendors (SolarWinds, ManageEngine)."
  • "The product-price ratio is better than other brands such as Fortinet or SonicWall."
  • "The license cost depends on the number of probes and robots."
  • "Reasonable setup cost and licensing prices."
  • "CAD $400,000 annually."
  • "Customers pay for the license and the support."
  • "Pricing for DX Unified Infrastructure Management isn't cheap at all. It's a complex tool, so you have to pay more. No one is happy with a large bill to pay, but if it's a complex product and you designed a complex solution to be monitored, it'll be your fault that you need to buy an expensive product, and that would be implicit in the design of DX Unified Infrastructure Management. Monitoring is just a small part of it. Sometimes you have to pay a significant amount of money for a complex yet very good solution."

  • "Splunk Enterprise becomes extremely expensive after the 20GB/month license."
