A stable solution with an intuitive interface and quick customer service
I have been working with Fortinet FortiGate, WatchGuard, Sophos, and SonicWall. I'm not as comfortable with SonicWall because of their UI and limitations. I prefer Fortinet above all other options. When it comes to configuration, I am confident in my ability to handle various tasks, including creating policies such as firewall rules, web policies, and application policies. Additionally, I can configure VPNs and implement load balancing, among other tasks. Overall, I feel much more comfortable working with Fortinet. Fortinet has made significant improvements by integrating AI with firewalls for threat analysis and prevention. In the past 2-3 years, they have launched FortiSASE and SIEM, and they also provide SOC services. Both Palo Alto and Fortinet FortiGate are excellent. While Fortinet FortiGate comes at higher prices, the functionality and support justify the cost. They promptly resolve firmware issues and inform all support providers about configuration changes.

Has powerful event correlations and is stable, scalable, and easy to set up
We use it for insider threat prevention with iPhones and to identify bad practices that block business processes I like that the core functionality is not in different modules. The event correlation is quite powerful. Incident management could be improved, along with enforcement capabilities,…

Network protection has improved with stronger VPN connectivity but administration remains complex
Deploying WatchGuard Firebox was quite easy, but we have had some problems regarding the VPN and the administration of the tool and the two firewalls that we have. When comparing WatchGuard Firebox with our previous solution, Palo Alto, we have had some problems in administration because of the tools. I think that they have some aspects in their system that are cloud-provided, but they also have an on-premise solution, which makes this combination good. Although I should say that when compared to Palo Alto, we have taken a step backwards. In general, I would rate WatchGuard Firebox around 6-7; it is a good firewall, but they lack good administration tools. We experience many problems with the performance and administration tools on the web, including several issues with VPNs.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"It's a flexible solution."
"FortiGate is easy to configure. We configured one of the units and sent it to Indiana to be installed. We asked them to give us a call when they got it, so we could help them through the process, but they called us back to tell us it works great."
"Whenever I need something, Fortinet improves and updates the software for me."
"The IPsec tunnels are very easily created, and quite interoperable with devices from other vendors."
"The most valuable feature is the FortiManager for centralized management."
"Fortinet provides us all that we need for security."
"Fortinet FortiGate provides superior protection compared to other firewalls, with high processing capabilities."
"It does not require a lot of maintenance."
"I like that the core functionality is not in different modules. The event correlation is quite powerful."
"I find WatchGuard Firebox provides very good value, with configuration migration between boxes, more flexible traffic management, best performance, strong security layers and dependencies, protocol-oriented design, rapid deploy for remote configuration, total protection for inbound and outbound traffic with deep understanding of the traffic, powerful DNS security for both network and mobile users, SD-WAN features that manage line quality, extensive exception handling, and a rich set of integrated security services like Access Portal, Application Control, APT Blocker, Botnet Detection, DLP, Gateway AntiVirus, DNSWatch, Geolocation, IntelligentAV, IPS, Reputation Enabled Defense, spamBlocker, Threat Detection and Response, and WebBlocker."
"Hands down, it's one of the best firewalls I have ever worked with."
"The main features of the solution are the control of the site-to-site network access and the overall features."
"The solution is stable; we haven't experienced any bugs or glitches, there haven't been any crashes on it, and our clients seem quite happy with it so far."
"I find this solution very easy to manage. The web manager and Firebox key features are particularly impressive for cloud applications. That's why I often recommend this solution to our clients. It has good threat management capabilities and works against different types of threats."
"If there is any conflict, the reporting feature will kick out all types of information, which is great."
"It is easy to deploy and use, the best of breed in the UTM firewall concept, creating the best UTM secure platform ever."
"Intrusion Prevention is my primary focus so that's what I find most useful. The why is straightforward: It's to prevent intrusion."

Cons

"Technical support is not helpful."
"Regarding challenges, customers initially faced issues like internet dropping, but after firmware upgrades, everything worked well."
"I would like to see more advanced developments of a wireless controller in the future."
"Fortinet FortiGate SWG could improve the price, it is expensive."
"The solution’s stability could be improved because we sometimes faced some drops."
"There are some tiny bugs that sometimes affect the operations."
"The Wi-Fi controller feature needs a lot of improvement."
"The solution's GUI is not very appealing."
"Incident management could be improved, along with enforcement capabilities, which DTEX does not have at the moment."
"Regarding technical support, they could use more engineers. There is less support from engineers and they give you less time."
"The drawbacks are just sometimes not having the technical information that we need in order to easily make connections with all of our Internet-based clients."
"The solution needs to improve its accessibility."
"The solution's pricing could be improved."
"The UI is not as user-friendly as the model that I had used before, which was from Check Point. The design of the Firebox UI is restricted and needs an experienced network guy to understand the format and settings."
"Make WatchGuard Firebox capable of integrating with third-party vendors like FireMon, Splunk, Tenable, etc."
"The solution is lacking a professional website, they should be updated more often."
"There should be better integration and a way to configure multiple vendors into the same data center in order to offer more flexibility."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"They need to be competitive with other solutions."
"It was worth the money overall. It's good value."
"I rate the pricing an eight and a half on a scale of one to ten, where one is low, and ten is high."
"It is cheaper and more competitive compared to other options. For example, when comparing Palo Alto products to others, Palo Alto tends to be more expensive. If you compare Cisco's platform, including Cisco Meraki, with Fortinet products, you'll notice that Cisco's offerings are generally higher priced than Fortinet's firewall solutions."
"The cost has increased since the update so I would rate it eight out of ten."
"Fortinet FortiGate as a less expensive solution than Palo Alto."
"Pricing and licensing is a little bit complicated in FortiGate. They are always on the higher side. This is one issue that we always raise with the company that they should reduce the price according to Indian market requirements. There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"Its pricing is fine. It is on a yearly basis. Other than the licensing fee, there is no extra fee."
"Pricing wise, DTEX would be a four on a scale from one to ten, where one is the highest price and 10 is the lowest price. It is not the cheapest solution."
"It is an entry-level product, so the price is cheap."
"The solution is not expensive and customers pay for a yearly license."
"The solution is a bit more expensive than other options."
"The price of the solution is not expensive, it is less than FortiGate."
"I find the solution to be very affordable."
"We don't have any other costs other than the licensing stuff."
"The price is so small that I don't pay attention to it anymore. I think we pay a few thousand dollars for two to three years, so about $100 per month. That's for all of our users. There is an additional cost if we want to go with a deeper licensing model, but we just pay for antivirus, IPS, and main product support."
"The licensing model for WatchGuard Application Control is based on the number of users. WatchGuard Application Control also has licensing models with several features."
