Improved data governance has enabled sensitive data tracking but cost management still needs work
I believe we could improve Databricks integration with cloud service providers. The impact of our current integration has not been particularly good, and it's becoming very expensive for us. The inefficiencies in our implementation, such as not shutting down warehouses when they're not in use or reserving the right number of credits, have led to increased costs. We made several beginner mistakes, such as not taking advantage of incremental loading and running overly complicated queries all the time. We should be using ETL tools to help us instead of doing it directly in Databricks. We need more experienced professionals to manage Databricks effectively, as it's not as forgiving as other platforms such as Snowflake. I think introducing customer repositories would facilitate easier implementation with Databricks.

The Briefing Book feature enables measures to be filtered and viewed based on different criteria by end users.
This software is targeted at executive users, not the data analysts who want to slice and dice. The software will not replace your BI tools, but it will sit nicely on top of a BI tool if you want management to have quick and easy access to performance data. Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Databricks also offers exceptional performance and scalability."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to use SQL directly with Databricks."
"Databricks is quite easy to use and requires less coding and customizations than a solution like AWS SageMaker, enabling more people to efficiently build and host their ML code while leveraging the already integrated MLflow to track and monitor all our different experiments."
"Of the available feature set, I like the Imageflow feature a lot."
"Databricks is also user-friendly, providing customizable codes and models that allow people to experiment quickly."
"Databricks has helped us have a good presence in data."
"Scalability is one of the main features of Databricks."
"Databricks serves as a single platform that can handle numerous end-to-end machine learning tasks."
"It is a comprehensive solution for performance management, and yet it is easy to setup and easy to use, especially in comparison with Oracle, SAS, Hyperion and SAP."

Cons

"The initial setup is difficult."
"It's not easy to use, and they need a better UI."
"I think setting up the whole account for one person and giving access are areas that can be difficult to manage and should be made a little easier."
"Data governance should be addressed. We have some trouble connecting all the governance solutions with Databricks, which means the integrative capabilities are problematic."
"In my view, the fundamental approach of implementing Databricks is still very code heavy, more than you find in Azure Data Factory and other technologies like Informatica or SQL Server Integration Service."
"The API deployment and model deployment are not easy on the Databricks side."
"There are no direct connectors — they are very limited."
"There has been a significant evolution in databases. One area of improvement is the Databricks File System (DBFS), where command-line challenges arise when accessing files."
"It needs to have better quality built in reports."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing costs of Databricks depend on how many licenses we need, depending on which Databricks provides a lot of discounts."
"The solution uses a pay-per-use model with an annual subscription fee or package. Typically this solution is used on a cloud platform, such as Azure or AWS, but more people are choosing Azure because the price is more reasonable."
"I am based in South Africa, where it is expensive adapting to the cloud, and then there is the price for the tool itself."
"Price-wise, I would rate Databricks a three out of five."
"The solution is affordable."
"The product pricing is moderate."
"The cost for Databricks depends on the use case. I work on it as a consultant, so I'm using the client's Databricks, so it depends on how big the client is."
"The price of Databricks is reasonable compared to other solutions."
