We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable features include the capability to use other program languages such as PLSQR, JAVA, .NET.""Helps us to remove barriers that we have with dependencies on services that we don't own, or services that don't even exist yet.""Scalability has actually worked well and we are able to bring it to multiple environments.""The ability to create virtual services and deploy them as Docker containers, and include them in our Jenkins build pipelines, is a valuable feature.""In the case of the virtualization of TCP/IP protocols for third-party terminal insurance, there was a device terminal, which was interacting with the application via the TCP/IP protocol. Most of the tools don't support that, but we were able to achieve it using Broadcom Service Virtualization.""Unit testing or early life testing did not have to be stopped or delayed because those services were not available.""CA Service Virtualization has helped us advance the development cycle when third-party interfaces are not available to us.""The ability to do parallel development and testing reduces our costs for duplicating environments, improving the productivity of our developers, and bringing products faster to market."

"The database checkpoints detect problems which are difficult for a human resource to find.""The most valuable feature of this solution is regression testing tools.""Customer service and technical support responsiveness are high. Everyone is very professional.""The most valuable features are the desktop and mobile modules.""The most valuable feature is the integration with Azure DevOps.""TestComplete is simple, it's a very easy-to-use tool.""The solution has a very nice interface.""In TestComplete, I saw a conformed package of a tool that kept everybody in consistency. The team was able to regenerate further tests without having to manipulate more code because the record feature is great."

Cons
"One major feature I would like to see is on the user administration part. Right now, anybody can access any of the folders and any of the projects.""We had to implement an external service catalog. We put it in ServiceNow. I would like to see an integrated service catalog.""I'd like to see more of the newer technologies included in there, looking mainly from a mobile perspective, possibly, so you can virtualize some of the aspects that we're going to be doing for mobile testing.""From a reporting perspective I think we would like to have a more user-friendly approach.""DevTest is pretty massive. It's hard to tell what different parts of it can be used to do different things. They should modulize it more.""I really want to see more of the "express" kind of model, where you get a little bit for free. I'd love to be able to see you be able to edit and author tests without having to be connected to a licensed server. And then, if you want to go and execute tests, then you go and connect to the server... I think it would unblock people to be able to do a lot more work from home or from remote places, where they can't really connect to the server.""The cost is an area that needs improvement. There are a couple of other tools which provide support for performance testing with the base version itself, but Broadcom needs a separate component to support virtualization for performance testing. This is a costly component.""CA actually releases a new version every year. We had issues with the upgrade prior to the latest one."

More Broadcom Service Virtualization Cons →

"We were testing handheld barcode scanners running WindowsCE with many menus of warehouse functions, and our biggest problem was the timing between input and responses.""It is very hard to read the test log generated by TestComplete Executor if the log file is very big. TestComplete Executor is a small tool for just running the TestComplete test framework (not for developing).""To bring it up to a 10, I would be looking for the addition of some key functional API testing.""In the cross-browser domain, it has a few snags with Microsoft Edge and Chrome; although, these problems are not critical.""During the distribution of our regression test cases, the control IDs are not always recognized correctly.""What is currently missing from this solution is better support for mobile testing.""SmartBear products generally have a weak link when it comes to integration with other test management tools like Inflectra.""At times, identifying or locating an element can be somewhat challenging. However, in a recent test update, they introduced Optical Character Recognition (OCR) capability. This introduction has reduced the challenges to some extent, as we can now utilize OCR if the normal method doesn't work. Nevertheless, there is still significant potential for improvement in TestComplete's ability to identify various object elements. I don't have any specific concerns to mention. I have observed significant improvements in TestComplete over the past few years, especially in its support for highly dynamic object elements used in products like Salesforce Dynamics 365. In earlier versions, there were numerous challenges, but the current version is far superior to its predecessors."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I think the pricing is quite fair because this solution provides a lot of functionalities, and is quite stable."
  • "There are additional fees for advanced-level technical support."
  • "I don't have the exact dollar amount, but we have spent close to $1,000,000 for a three-year agreement, for an enterprise level."
  • "There is a yearly licensing cost, and I would give it a four out of five."

  • "The product is becoming more and more expensive."
  • "My advice so far, is that while it’s not quite as powerful and easy to use as UFT, its price tag more than makes up for it."
  • "The price is less, compared to other products, such as QTP."
  • "Buy modules on demand. If you have a four-person team and they will each automate tests only 25% of the time, it's better to buy a floating licence and share the tool during the work day."
  • "TestComplete now have come up with three modules (Web, Desktop & Mobile), so based on the type of product for automation, it is adequate to purchase the required module."
  • "This is a pay-per-use service that is not expensive, and cost-efficient if you have a small team."
  • "The option we chose was around $2,000 USD."
  • "The licensing costs are in the range of $1,000 to $3,000."

    Overview

CA Service Virtualization acts as a catalyst for DevOps by simulating constrained or unavailable systems across the software development lifecycle (SDLC). This allows developers, testers and performance teams to work in parallel to accelerate app delivery, as well as to “shift-left” the app testing to improve application quality. CA Service Virtualization was previously known as LISA, the product from the ITKO acquisition.

    Reviews from Real Users

Sandhiya T S., Sr Solutions Engineer at Lexington Soft, relates, “The record and replay aspects of the solution are quite useful for people. With them, you don't have to write any scripts. Basically, you can record your actions and play them back later. The initial setup is also very easy.”
