A scalable solution for backup and restore that has an easy setup
The solution's updates and rollouts of the patches cause a lot of problems. There's no other way around it. Recently, we have also faced RDS and print server issues. One of our clients experienced some remote desktop service issues. These things keep happening with Microsoft. They have a patch, and then they have some other rollout that fixes it. The solution should be more consistent with its patching updates.

Positive impacts seen with improved data security and reliable support
I have six months of experience with the product, and as a consultant, the use cases for NetApp AltaVault mainly stand out for me. Regarding the deduplication feature in the product, I am interested in whether clients are using it. There are different integrations available with NetApp AltaVault, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and I want to understand how they impact data security policies in my case.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature includes leaving the stub files behind and integrating that with the recenter feature."
"Backup and Restore for SharePoint & Microsoft Office 365 is easy to use."
"The stability has always been very good."
"The stability has always been very good."
"The solution has good scalability."
"Being able to move data seamlessly from one-premise to the cloud (Azure). It works great. The backup solution is perfect for us."
"The flexibility, being able to virtualize it, port it wherever I like, test my backups, test my DR capabilities whenever I like without impacting anybody, is great."
"The dashboard is useful for managing data backups."
"The flexibility. Being able to virtualize it, port it wherever I like, test my backups, test my DR capabilities whenever I like without impacting anybody."
"Having a solution there that can move data from on-premise into the cloud and back is a massive win."
"Leverage the SE and the technical expertise within NetApp; they offer really great services, and they'll provide you with an honest approach to how to address your business problems."
"Most importantly is having that island into that datacenter, and being able to address things in the same console. Thus, it is irrelevant where it's stored."
"It took an entire silo of complexity and simplified it to a device in the cloud."

Cons

"I think the solution itself keeps up with everything else. Sometimes it would be nice if they could move a little bit quicker and have faster updates, but in terms of the features, it's absolutely fine and adequate."
"The user experience needs a little refreshing touch."
"The solution's updates and rollouts of the patches cause a lot of problems."
"We need more options for the backup schedule."
"Sometimes it would be nice if they could move a little bit quicker and have faster updates, but in terms of the features, it's absolutely fine and adequate."
"NetApp's own competing products complicate things."
"It's a good product, but it's becoming outdated and moving to their other primary architecture."
"I really want to partner it with the SnapCenter. We haven't implemented that yet. We're upgrading all of our stuff to the ONTAP 9, which you had to have."
"More capacity with the basic model of the AltaVault would probably help out."
"It would be nice if the solution was more complete. Many customers are looking for a single solution or silo that they can manage everything from. It would be nice, instead of having different products, if everything a client needed was in one solution."
"There are some bits it could do better. With tighter integration maybe with Veeam, or something like that, it'd be really good."
"We've had a lot of issues, crashed the service console a lot, service crashes."
"It wasn't as easy as I thought it was going to be. It was actually a complete rebuild, and then migrate the database."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution could also be cheaper."
"The solution’s pricing is expensive."
"Regarding CloudArchiver, you purchase per terabyte."
"It is a rather expensive program."
"The price is a bit high."
"In one use case, and we have several, to run for a particular customer, the price is about $375,000 a year."
"You could compare it to a Dell EMC or ECS, and I think it's probably a little less costly than that. Within the marketplace, it's a medium cost."
"The pricing is not too bad, but could be a little better."
"There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution, which comes to around 3,000 USD."
"It's quite cost-effective."
