Seamless and simplified migration of applications with significant low latency
The most valuable aspect is that it comes in a rack form factor which makes it incredibly easy to use and deploy various AWS services. You can start with foundational services like EC2, and then expand to container management with ECS and Kubernetes with EKS. You can also take advantage of EBS for storage needs, manage databases using RDS, and ensure load balancing with ALBs. It essentially brings a comprehensive range of AWS services to your on-premises environment in a convenient rack format.

Hyper-converged storage has improved performance and now supports high redundancy for our VMs
Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI) was transparent because we were on a regular infrastructure before. We went on NCI and were able to improve performance, but it did not really change how things worked. The performance was really better for applications and access times to the data. I regularly looked at the analytics to see what was going on in my servers and what it was saying to optimize performance. It was pretty interesting because it could analyze and give insights on how to get things working better. In the latest versions, the Prism interface has been replaced by Prism Central. This requires another machine to be deployed to manage the servers.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable aspect is its ability to provide interfaces for events."
"If you compare with the full bundle of these services, you can see the difference, and this is enough for these locations in private data centers because the main reasons why the customers want to have it on their side are for the low latency and the security of their critical data."
"Outposts allows you to isolate your private environment from the public cloud provider while enabling almost all the features that are available on public cloud services. That is the beauty of this service. It's an infrastructure that you can put in your data center and seamlessly connect to the public cloud."
"With AWS, we've had seamless integration and support for many of our applications."
"AWS can manage services when deployed on customer sites due to Outposts' capability of being installed in on-premises environments."
"AWS Outposts brings native AWS services, infrastructure, and API to our on-premises data center or co-location facilities."
"We expanded the projects over a year and a half, and we used the solution to save around 30% of our customer operations costs with both customers."
"The most valuable aspect is that it comes in a rack form factor which makes it incredibly easy to use and deploy various AWS services."
"The administration console, automation, and the first cluster are all valuable features."
"The stability of the product is excellent."
"I would say that it's a simple to use product, it fits all sizes and it is budget-friendly."
"We are suggesting Nutanix to the management because of scalability and time efficiency."
"The configuration is easy, and it's flexible."
"The most valuable features of Nutanix Acropolis AOS are storage and hyper-converged. The solution is easy to use and the administration is very good."
"We primarily use Nutanix as our base environment where we host all our database servers, our active directory, our mail servers, and all of our bare-metal systems combined into one unit."
"The most valuable aspect of the solution is the fact that it doesn't need any downtime even when you are updating the product."

Cons

"The product is heavy to ship and can be difficult to handle logistically."
"The pricing model needs improvement because right now it's very expensive. All of these solutions are very expensive and it prevents other customers or owners of data centers from buying it."
"Depending on the installation process, we have found some bugs and issues with the solution when the same platform is not used."
"Also, it would be beneficial if AWS allowed for more granular and customizable pricing options."
"Outposts supports elastic coordinator services, but not elastic container services, which is the native service for containers in AWS. That is something missing in this product."
"It would be great if it could support Glue services."
"The platform needs to spend more time investing in strengthening its governance and information tools and consider the real needs of its customers."
"It would be beneficial to have the option for capacity expansion."
"I would like to see Acropolis add the ability to migrate VMs between storage containers. I don't know if they've added this in the latest versions, but I haven't seen it yet. It's mainly about AHV. When we use VMware, we can move between storage containers. In VMware, it's just like regular storage, and we can move it."
"Customer Service: It's excellent, but expensive. Technical Support: It's excellent, but expensive."
"The reporting section of the dashboard could be improved to include more detailed reporting about the servers."
"Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure's cloud platform management software could be improved so that I can manage my load between the cloud and on-premises."
"The solution has more features than required"
"I'm not very technical, so I don't know if there are any features that are really lacking. Our customers seem pleased with it, and I haven't heard of any downsides."
"There were initially some setup complications with Nutanix on Dell hardware by not having Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) open locally on the network switches."
"Reduce its power consumption."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Customers should consider the high cost, which can range from $10,000 to hundreds of thousands depending on the components."
"AWS Outposts is a cheap solution."
"The pricing of Outposts needs to be evaluated from the standpoint of what's cost-effective at your company: How are you going to use it? How much money will it save for your products or applications? Is it worth it? I would say it's probably too expensive for small or medium-sized companies. However, big companies might find it to be highly cost-effective depending on their respective cloud strategies."
"While the longer-term pricing is suitable for enterprise contracts, it can be on the higher side, especially when organizations don't utilize all the services included in the bundles."
"This product is expensive, but they do have discounts. At one point, I saw that they were giving a 70% or 80% discount, which is a good thing, but maybe they should have a more realistic price and then a 5% to 10% discount."
"While cost may seem higher than your traditional 3-tier architecture, you need to look at the bigger picture. You're not just buying hardware here. You're buying a complete environment."
"It is less expensive than the VMware alternative."
"Able to grow with smaller, more linear increments of investment"
"The solution is quite expensive."
"The cost of Nutanix Acropolis AOS is reasonable."
"Extra features should not be so expensive. We would love to be able to use or even just try some of the extra features without having to buy them. Buying those features is just as expensive as buying vSphere licenses, so the cost savings is nullified."
"The pricing is quite good in comparison with HPE SimpliVity, Nutanix Scale, and even traditional architecture."
