Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows [EOL] Reviews

It's not a big use case. It's just to install and back up the users. 

I recently had a project with a client with 500 users, and they wanted the client to back up from a specific folder or a specific file. I just deployed a backup portal, and then I pushed the agent on the client. I discover it, I install it, and I create a dashboard on the backups. Veeam backups from the client to the backup repository, et cetera.

The main feature is a specific file type. If we want some PDF files just to back up, the prefix is very easy, and we do everything in Veeam backup.

It's straightforward to set up.

It's stable.

The solution is easy to use. You can centrally manage it. 

It's potentially free to use. 

While the Veeam agent is perfect, sometimes the agent doesn't install in Windows. It's too critical to uncover what's the reason Veeam is not sharing the proper thing. Sometimes, we have to install the new Windows and then install the agent. There needs to be more compatibility.

I've been using the solution for five or six years.

The scalability is great. I'd rate it ten out of ten. 

I have two or three clients and they use backup solutions or install agents like backups. The users they have in their company vary. One client has 500 users, and another one has ten. Another has 250 or 300 users. They deploy it individually or they centralize management from the Veeam Essentials portal.

I haven't needed any tech support yet. I handle things myself if there is any issue.

I use Veeam agents for Linux, Mac, and Windows. 

I'm also familiar with Acronis and Veritas.

The initial setup is pretty straightforward and simple. You just click and install the Veeam agent on the client. 

While it is on-premises, I just install it on the cloud. I have many servers on AWS or Azure. Actually, I was recently working on a multi-cloud environment. They had desk solutions or multi-cloud environments in the organization, and I deployed the Veeam agent on AWS and Azure as well. The working criteria are fabulous. Veeam is working very well on this type of agent.

The deployment is fast. In one click, it is installed.

The pricing is very low compared to other options. 

If you license Veeam Backup Essential and if you purchase Veeam Backup Essential, the agent cost is nothing. It's free to use. You freely download it from the Veeam site, and you deploy it. If you want centralized management, then you purchase the licenses. In that case, you need to pay.

The stability is good. I haven't noted any issues in this regard. It's reliable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. 

I would recommend the solution to others. It's better than Acronis and Veritas. I find it very easy to use and manage. It's centralized and simple. 

I'd rate the solution ten out of ten.

We are using it for Exchange backup.

The most valuable feature is application availability, which allows us to monitor all agents and accounts.

There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature, and they should improve that option. They also provide the AIX agent, which is similar to the Windows and Linux agents. Since we use AIX machines, we need to take backups of those machines. However, the options available in that agent are limited. Therefore, the new version should have improvements in that area.

I have been using this solution for almost one year now.

It is a stable solution.

It is a scalable solution. There are over 2,000 users in my company.

The customer service team is good.

We used IBM's product TSM for Exchange. Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is easier to configure and understand compared to the complex deployment and recovery point of IBM's TSM.

It was complex for us as we have distributed servers for backup. It took around 10 to 15 minutes for the preconfigured setup. There are six administrators for the solution.

The pricing model is reasonable and lower than its competitors.

Since we already had tools for virtual machine backup, we found Veeam to be the easiest to use and did not consider other options.

Veeam fulfilled all our requirements. Overall, I would rate it a nine out of ten.

The solution is used for disaster recovery and replication of data centers. 

It's easy to integrate.

It can fix any issue if you have hardware problems or integrations.

I don't need to install any agent. However, some critical machines require an agent, and we can engage with that. We can use virtual machines and won't need an agent. For physical machines, it may be required to have an agent, and we can just install it.

Version 12 has a lot of new features. They are very good at upgrading.

It's powerful and user-friendly.

The solution is scalable.

It is stable.

Technical support is very helpful and responsive.

The solution is quite affordable.

We don't have any issues with the solution.

We do not need any other features. 

The integration with MS Storage and Dell Media needs to be simplified. Micro Focus may be better in this area as it offers tape. We can't use tape for primary storage on Veeam.

I've been using the solution for six years. 

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten. There are no bugs or glitches and it doesn't crash or freeze. The features are there and it offers special integrations with hypervisors. 

It is very scalable.

We have many customers using the solution. There are more than 50 using it. 

Technical support is very good. You will receive updates on the same day. We have been satisfied with the level of support.

I'm also using Veeam for Linux.

I'm familiar with Micro Focus and have noted customers changing to Veeam.

The initial setup is very straightforward. In the newest versions, they have open-scale as well. It's very user-friendly.

I was able to deploy it in less than one hour.

I have to handle the prerequisite from the customer side, and then I have to ensure all the hypervisor versions are matching with the Veeam version. That might take some time; however, usually, everything goes fast. 

The pricing is very good compared to Micro Focus. It is very affordable. 

I'd recommend the solution to others.

I'd advise new users to check the updates with the infrastructure to make sure everything will be compatible with Veeam. You need to ensure that you do not need agents. You might need agents for infrastructure that is not virtualized. 

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

When we need to back up clusters, we use the agent for Windows. 

The performance is good. 

It is stable and reliable. 

The solution can scale. 

Technical support is good.

It is easy to set up. The solution offers good documentation.

If your connection is not good, you have issues with performance. 

The backups can go slow. 

It has a bit too much complexity.

I've been using the solution for six years. 

As long as the connection is good, the performance is good. It is stable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

The solution is scalable. 

We have less than 50 people in the whole region. We are working towards reducing the solution. We will not increase usage. 

Technical support is fine. We always get an answer, and we get a quick response. We are satisfied with their level of assistance.

We used to use HP Data Protector previously. We didn't have the licensing up to date, and we needed to invest more money if we would continue, and so we moved to Veeam. 

The initial setup is quite simple and straightforward. We have good documentation on the website, which makes it easy.

The deployment took less than one day. We just followed the steps and created a proxy for the VM. We did the setup a while ago.

We have four people who are able to handle maintenance tasks. 

We pay for licensing on a yearly basis. 

We update the solution regularly and are on the latest version. 

I would rate the solution eight out of ten.

We've been providing Veeam solutions to clients. We basically distribute MSP licenses to clients.

Veeam Agent for Windows is basically the mini compared to Backup and Replication, which is like the Mercedes of the two. It's for anything that doesn't require a backup of an application or license. For example, for physical server backups or physical workstation backups. You won't really use it for virtual machines. You'll rather install a backup of the application and use it for that. That's about it.

To do recoveries is not that hard. To do the actual backup configuration is also not too bad. It also works off an agent. It does snapshots. 

Technical support is helpful.

It basically does caching on the actual customer's machine. For example, if you're doing a trial backup, which enables you to basically do a similar thing to Acronis, where you can carry on from where you left off. The only issue is that caching is running on your local machine. So, if you have a little bit of space left on your machine and now it has a big cache, then your hard drive runs out of space, and it crashes. You don't want the tool to be responsible for breaking your machine.

I've worked with a lot of tools, and the only difference between this and the normal CMB tool, which just does a snapshot and copies files, is the way it's being stored. It puts it in a different kind of file format. In terms of, let's just say, Acronis Cloud, it's got something like active protection, which actually protects your backup archive from ransomware. Veeam does not have anything like that. There's no security feature whatsoever.

They tried to bring in something like immutable backups, so now you can't change your backup. Yet it can still be encrypted. It's absolutely pointless. We try to move away from the, let's say, old legacy kind of products like Veeam, even though it's still marked as one of the best backup products there is.

We need some sort of security for backups and archives. I've had too many instances of targeted attacks where people will access the backup repository and encrypt the backup file, then launch attacks on the machine. When that happens, the machine is not recoverable, and you have to pay a ransom to get your information back. 

I've used the solution from the time it was released. 

It's quite stable. It is an on-premise installation. It can be set up to send you email notifications via SMTP, and that in itself can become tricky to basically set up. 

With the actual recovery, let's say you work at a company, and you don't want to install Backup and Replication, and you want to deploy only Veeam Agent for Windows. That's fine. You can deploy everything and set everything up. For every single instance or agent that you install, in order for you to do a recovery of that machine, you would need an individual copy of your recovery media. So that means you're going to have a hundred recovery media over the size of about 500 megabytes or even bigger, in some cases. At the end of the day, that is useless storage. What happens is if you lose one of those recovery media or you don't make it, you cannot restore that machine.

It's not really that scalable. 

We used have over 2000 Veeam Agents installed across various customers.

Their tech support is quite good. It's a legacy product in my eyes and it forms part of the basic principles of backup. For instance, if this doesn't work, do that. If the service is down, just start it. There's no real big complexity with it sometimes. However, tech support is quite good. Sometimes there are errors that you just can't avoid and nobody can help you with them. And that just means that you have to start from scratch with the backups. 

I've worked with Veeam Backup and Replication and Veeam Agent for Linux. For Linux, there's no reporting. The only way for you to figure out what's happening is to physically log into the machine and figure out if the backup ran or not. It's not really that good. For Windows itself, it looks fine.

With regards to the setup, the big issue there is you do need the latest version of .NET. If you want to install it on an older kind of machine. It doesn't really support all of that. It means you need to do system updates, all of those kinds of things, just before you can even install .NET, and it can become quite a headache to get it up and running initially.

To deploy it on a network can be quite tricky, and that's why most people would rather use Backup and Replication and deploy it through there instead of deploying it one by one. That's basically what you need to do with this. You need to go to a machine, install it, go to the next machine, and install it. Unless you try and push the installation through your active directly, which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. There are also issues with that as well.

One upside of Veeam Agent for Windows is that it's free - unless you want to back up to the cloud. You would need to get a Cloud Connect License in that case, which is really inexpensive. Then it just has to be set up at the back end of your MSP, and then you pay for the cloud storage program.

The licensing costs are actually very good. 

We're using the latest version of the solution. 

I would advise people to use the solution  in certain use cases. For example, if a customer has a machine that doesn't really have internet, or they don't want a cloud-based solution, and the customer is very small and has one or two machines, then yes, by all means, use it. 

I'd rate the solution six out of ten. It's tricky to manage, and you literally have to go to each machine to go and figure out what's wrong with it. There is no real information that you can pull up online when there's a problem. 

This solution is used for backup and recovery of an entire virtual environment. We're using the latest version of the solution.

Fewer than 100 people are using this solution in our organization.

The most valuable feature is that it's a VMware environment.

I would like there to be more integration with other platforms.

It's very stable.

It's scalable. If there's a need to increase the usage in the future, we will do that. Currently, there's no need.

We don't use technical support because we have a licensed version.

I have also used Veritas Backup Exec.

Initial setup is simple and straightforward. It takes about 10 minutes to deploy.

One to three people are needed for deployment and maintenance.

We have an annual license.

I would rate this solution as nine out of ten.

Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows's most useful features is the ease of use and user-friendly.

The price of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows could improve.

I have been using Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows for two years.

Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is highly stable.

The stability of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is good.

We have approximately 400 people using the solution. We plan to increase the usage when we acquire more systems.

The technical support from Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is good. We had two issues that were resolved.

The initial setup of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is straightforward. The full deployment took approximately a week.

We use a consultant to do the implementation of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows.

Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is a good investment. Looking at the cost of using data, and the cost of having the solution, it's quite good.

We are on an annual license to use Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. There are not any additional fees to use the solution.

The overall price of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is expensive.

I recommend Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows to others.

I rate Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows a seven out of ten.

My primary use case is for protection and disaster recovery. We have Hyper-V servers in our offices and when we want to back up the host — the whole Hyper-V server, not the VMs — we use Veeam in case of power failure. That way, we don't have to reconfigure the network and everything from scratch. This is deployed on-premises, but our data centers are in different geographic locations, so you could say it's a private cloud. 

Veeam is very useful for the Hyper-V environment. 

A feature I would like to see is universal restore. At the moment, restoration can only be smooth on the same hardware. If you have a server and you back it up with Veeam Agent, in case it fails or crashes. If you later buy a new server because the same one isn't available on the market anymore, there's a high chance that Windows will not boot up if you restore from the Veeam backup because the hardware is now different. Acronis has the universal restore feature, so it will work with generic drivers and you can restore Windows in any dissimilar hardware. As far as I know, Veeam doesn't have this feature yet. 

I have been using this solution for over a year. 

This solution is very stable, there's no question about it. 

We are currently using Veeam with 10 physical servers. 

I have never contacted customer service. A situation has never arisen where I have needed their support. 

The initial setup was straightforward and took less than 45 minutes. 

I implemented this solution myself. 

We have the Community Edition and I believe we bought a license for 200 instances. Veeam Agent is mainly used for our branch offices. Those only have one or two Hyper-V servers, so it's covered with the Community Edition. Basically, it's free. I remember Veeam 7.0 or 8.0 wasn't free, but the Community Edition is. 

I rate Veeam Agent for Windows a nine out of ten. I don't see any problems with it, and I would recommend it to others. 

We use the solution to function as our backup infrastructure.

The solution is straightforward to use.

They should improve the solution's automation features.

We have been using the solution for a year.

It is a stable solution.

It is a scalable solution. We have implemented it on around 1000 servers. We have plans to increase the licenses, but it depends on the infrastructure and usage.

I used NetBackup earlier. I found its license assessment, setup process, and infrastructure more complicated than Veeam.

The initial setup process of the solution is more accessible than other products. It takes a few hours to deploy it. The process consists of setting up the infrastructure and deploying the solution to the endpoint.

Our in-house administrator executes the deployment and maintenance of the solution.

It is easier to generate ROI for other products compared to Veeam.

We purchase a yearly license for the solution. It is less expensive than Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365.

I rate the solution as an eight.

We primarily use the solution for the backup of Windows on Oracle machines. We use it for the back on other machines as well. 

It's a simple way to back up the database. 

The initial setup, if it is error-free, is very simple. 

The solution is inexpensive.

We've had several issues with Veeam and one of our customers. For the last three to six months, the client had to deploy all of their VMs on both sides. After the redeployment, it's been easier. The initial implementation was not so easy.

There need to be more error codes to help us understand when something is going wrong. 

The VM databases can be a bit difficult as there are not enough error codes available to understand what is going on. It would help us resolve customer issues if there was more visibility on errors. 

Troubleshooting is very hard. 

It would be nice to have some sort of GUI interface as opposed to dealing with the CLI or PowerScripts. 

We've used the solution for a while. We've used it for the last six months. 

The stability is good. I'd rate it seven out of ten. Troubleshooting I'd rate at zero out of ten. When you run into issues, it's complex. 

This is a physical solution. It doesn't scale per se, although it comes in different sizes. 

We have three to four people using the solution. 

Our customer does not have an active technical support contract. Therefore, we do not deal with support.

The installation is not the simplest. We've had issues and had to redeploy our client's VMs.

The initial setup is very easy. The problems start when you run into errors. 

The ease of setup, without issues, is ten out of ten. 

The deployment takes several hours. We had one person on our side and one person on the customer side to handle the deployment. Only one person is needed for maintenance. 

We handle the deployment of our customers. They supervise the process. 

The solution is very cheap. I'd rate the affordability ten out of ten. 

A customer might use the product for up to five years before having to replace it.

Aside from troubleshooting issues, which are difficult, the solution is good.
