PRTG Enterprise Monitor Reviews

I mainly use PRTG Enterprise Monitor for network infrastructure monitoring. I am currently working as a Network and Security Engineer.

I work with PRTG Enterprise Monitor. What I really appreciate about PRTG Enterprise Monitor is that it is very easy to set up, especially the configuration, which is not complicated, and it is very straightforward to go in and change things.

The alerting capabilities in PRTG help us reduce downtime, and that is the main reason why we use it. I am quite satisfied with the alerting part of PRTG, as it is quite good.

The main benefits PRTG Enterprise Monitor provides for us include helping us respond quickly to network problems.

When it comes to dashboard customization in PRTG Enterprise Monitor, there are not too many options, and I think that would not be a strong point for PRTG, but for our use cases, we do not really need that kind of customization.

For reporting with PRTG Enterprise Monitor, I also have other means of doing the reporting, and I do not usually rely on PRTG for that, so I cannot really speak to that.

I think PRTG would have to improve the customization a little bit.

I have been working with PRTG Enterprise Monitor for ten years.

For stability, I would rate PRTG at least an eight. It is not a ten, but at least an eight.

I would say scalability is good. It usually depends on the hardware that you install the PRTG Enterprise Monitor software on. Due to the lack of dashboard customization, I would rate scalability as a six.

I cannot really say much about technical support because I have never had a situation where I have to reach out.

The setup process for PRTG Enterprise Monitor is very simple.

I would rate the pricing of PRTG Enterprise Monitor maybe a six. I think a six is fine, as it is reasonable and not expensive.

Competitors of PRTG are quite numerous. I would mention Nagios and other open source tools such as LibreNMS and Grafana as good competitors.

In my opinion, PRTG is better because it is very simple to use. As I mentioned in the beginning, it is very simple to set up.

The main benefits PRTG Enterprise Monitor provides for us include helping us respond quickly to network problems.

For our virtualization switches, we normally use a different vendor, but I am not in charge of that particular system.

I have not really used the pre-configured sensors feature in PRTG.

A different team handles reporting.

For now, nothing really comes to mind regarding additional functions for PRTG. I think it is good for what we use it for.

I cannot really say much about technical support because I have never had a situation where I have to reach out.

I would give PRTG Enterprise Monitor a final rating of eight.

I am quite satisfied with the alerting part of PRTG, as it is quite good.

I work in an MSP type of company where we provide NOC services to our customers. We mainly use PRTG Enterprise Monitor for our data center monitoring and customer monitoring. It is a combination of monitoring our own data center and customer environments.

The easy integration to SNMP is what I appreciate about PRTG Enterprise Monitor. I experienced some challenges with customization, but compared to what we're using such as N-central and LogicMonitor, PRTG Enterprise Monitor is easy to integrate with SNMP v2 and v3. That's the main reason we're using it. It is compatible with any sources that communicate over SNMP.

The main benefit I have seen from using PRTG Enterprise Monitor is that our NOC can catch incidents or alerts before they turn into actual P1 incidents. We are working towards extinguishing issues before they escalate to P0 or P1 status.

I have not tried to customize the dashboard yet as our NOC is relatively new to the company. Our focus has been mainly on covering all blind spots. We have a standardized dashboard, and the only customization we implemented was the traffic light component.

Alerting helps reduce downtime and enhance efficiency in our scenarios. Without customization, it can be noisy, which is one of the main challenges we experienced with PRTG Enterprise Monitor. We found ways to make it less noisy by implementing webhooks and other customizations. The foundational or default configuration can be difficult to calibrate, but integration with automations and APIs makes it easier.

I am interested in AIOps type functionality. One of the downsides is alert management when breaching certain thresholds. My idea involves implementing AI to interpret these alerts and ensure correlation against other sources. For example, if a VM keeps alerting high CPU usage and a firewall on the network keeps alerting CPU issues, it could indicate a malware alert or environmental problem. An AIOps integration would help solve some pain points that the network operations center experiences.

I have been working with PRTG Enterprise Monitor for two and a half years since starting the NOC team.

I find PRTG Enterprise Monitor stable. The main issue is resource consumption, as I have to constantly increase resources because it runs in a single server scenario. We don't implement load balancers. While the setup is acceptable, resource consumption could be more efficient.

Regarding the pricing aspect, we used to pay 5,000 dollars for PRTG Enterprise Monitor. Given that we scaled it up and there's a new pricing model, it increased to 14,000 dollars. Our CFO is unlikely to approve this budget, so we're exploring other tools that can meet the same purpose within the 5,000 dollar range.

I contact tech support when I have issues. They are helpful in providing log analysis and other assistance. However, I work during A and Z time zones and typically receive responses during US time. Response times range from one to three days for urgent issues unless escalated. The support is not very proactive.

I would rate the technical support a seven out of ten.

In my previous company, I used LogicMonitor, which is one of the leading monitoring tools in the market. LogicMonitor is more enterprise-level and requires a consultant to configure it unless you study or obtain certifications. For newcomers without experience in either tool, PRTG Enterprise Monitor is more user-friendly and easier to understand. PRTG Enterprise Monitor works well for both SMBs and enterprise use cases.

I was involved in the initial setup of PRTG Enterprise Monitor and configured it from the ground up. I installed it on a Windows server in our data center and we scaled it up to a customized solution.

The initial setup was straightforward. There are numerous YouTube videos and articles available online, as well as training courses that you can follow even without prior setup experience.

We primarily use PRTG Enterprise Monitor for incident and response rather than extensive reporting. We send customer reports but don't utilize advanced data analysis features. We use a combination of pre-configured sensors and custom sources.

My advice is to try PRTG Enterprise Monitor. The only significant issue is that it becomes expensive as you scale up. However, if it meets your initial use cases, it is worth implementing.

On a scale of 1-10, I rate PRTG Enterprise Monitor an 8 overall.

We provide a solution to enterprise-level customers who have between one hundred to two hundred switches or routers. The solution offers real-time bandwidth monitoring using both SNMP and SL features to identify network interaction and downtime.

The real-time bandwidth monitoring and SNMP provide valuable service level data, enabling the identification of network downtime and disruptions effectively.

The solution offers perfect real-time bandwidth monitoring and SNMP functionality. It can identify downtimes and disruptions. 

Additionally, it provides a plug-in system for various network templates, including Cisco Suite.

The licensing policy needs to change. The current model requires customers to purchase a minimum of two thousand licenses, which is not flexible for all customers. They should consider a more flexible licensing approach. 

Furthermore, alignment with customer expectations rather than offering numerous features that are not requested would be beneficial.

We have been using the solution for a long time since 2010.

When a PeerSpot identifies a disruption in a switch, it appears that the whole network is down, indicating a potential stability issue.

We have previously compared this solution to others like SolarWind.

PRTG Enterprise Monitor is a good product, especially for monitoring networks within a data center with SQL running inside.

PRTG Enterprise Monitor’s platform licensing seems more cost-effective when considering individual interfaces. The pricing is $2,149 for software without maintenance, and licenses are sold in the minimum bundle of 500 interfaces.

We evaluated AlgoSec and SolarWinds. Algoreas offers excellent AI features, while SolarWinds pricing model is cheaper for certain operations. SolarWinds poses issues when disruption is detected, showing the network as down.

I recommend considering flexibility in the licensing policy to make it feasible for all customers. Also, developing a feature that provides network visualization similar to existing templates would be beneficial.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

We hand over the products by buying them and then sell them to our clients. We deploy these devices and managing tools for our clients. We typically provide these solutions to enterprise-level companies, schools, colleges, offices, and multinational organizations.

The solution's ability to monitor each and every aspect of our devices, such as memory utilization and port connectivity, is valuable. However, we occasionally have to download additional WIP files and synchronize our devices with PRTG, which can be challenging. Despite this, everything else works well.

The solution could be improved by introducing security features similar to those available in Teams, as the current version only monitors devices and does not integrate IoT or OT devices.

I have never used technical support, so I can't comment on it.

Previously, I have used OpManager, ManageEngine, Cacti Graph, and SolarWinds.

We personally help our clients with implementation, and our clients are also capable of working on this.

I have no idea about the pricing as I am not the sales person. The sales team coordinates these matters.

I have used OpManager, ManageEngine, Cacti Graph, and SolarWinds as alternative solutions.

I would recommend PRTG Enterprise Monitor to others as it works well with Android devices, and you can try the free version before purchasing. However, I would not recommend it for banking sites as it might not be capable of monitoring everything.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

PRTG is good and very easy to use. Many other companies are using it, and it doesn't get slow. I never saw its performance becoming slow.

PRTG is agentless, so it doesn't need agents installed to work. But the real-time aspect is not actually real-time. However, being agentless can be a plus point for PRTG.

We can change the refresh time down to seconds. It improves the response time. It has good response time for support. If someone from our department installed PRTG, they will take care of it and provide support. If our company provides PRTG, we will give them the support and be available 24/7 for that.

There are many types of alerts in PRTG. So, it has great alerting capabilities. 

There is no automatic fault management. PRTG lacks customization and flexibility. It doesn't have a unified monitor, meaning it doesn't have the scope for every application, up to the application and databases, and visualizations. 

There is no unified monitoring in PRTG. It needs a lot of improvement in terms of integration. PRTG lags in integration. There is no third-party integration available. They must work on it.

It has issues with scalability. I would rate the scalability a two out of ten. They really need to work on it.

The support is provided by a third party for PRTG solutions to any other clients. In that case, the company will provide 24/7 support and charge for it.

There is no ticketing system, and there is no integration as I told you earlier. It doesn't support a ticketing system. But OpManager will integrate with ServiceDesk Plus, a service desk tool with a comprehensive ticketing system. It can raise and resolve tickets, and create scenarios to do any specific tasks automatically, but you need to configure all of that.

There are tools like Nagios and OpManager. OpManager is agent-based, and PRTG is agentless.

There are many differences between these products. 

Difficulties arise when there's a complex network. The software itself doesn't have drawbacks, but it's about how we design and configure it. It's all about how we configure it. Sometimes, issues come up, but not often.

It's not difficult to figure out PRTG. It's not as difficult as SolarWinds. If someone is good, deployment takes 10 minutes.

There are cost savings. You just buy what you need. If you calculate precisely what you need in your network, you can cut a lot of costs. You need to have a good network engineer who will calculate what you need; it will save you a lot of money.

You can save a lot. If you have a big network and a good network engineer to calculate precisely what your company requires, like what type of license, how many devices, and what groups you will use, it will definitely lower the cost.

If the company is not so big, you can use it. OpManager is scalable and is for large companies that need very precise technicians, who need very good calculations, and who are very concerned about infrastructure stability. But if the company is not concerned about that, you can use PRTG.

Overall, I would rate the solution a six out of ten. 

We primarily use the platform to monitor technical sensors such as ping ability, uptime, CPU load, and memory usage. Additionally, we use it to monitor certificate expiry dates and certain processes, like testing the availability of our internet connection and mail service through handcrafted sensor frameworks.

From a technical perspective, the product's most valuable feature is SNMP, an open standard monitoring protocol that works across various network devices and operating systems, including UNIX and Windows. Additionally, it is easy to install and maintain. 

The solution could be improved by including a processing monitor, possibly with a language interface like Lua, allowing for writing custom sensors and processing outcomes of inputs. 

Given our significant SAP landscape, I would also like PRTG to offer better integration with SAP systems, including S/4HANA and HANA databases. 

We have used PRTG as a licensed product for two years. Before that, we used their free version with 100 sensors since 2021.

We have encountered some stability issues, particularly on Windows systems. I would prefer to have PRTG implemented on a UNIX or Linux system. Additionally, I would like to see the probes available on different operating systems.

We are monitoring almost 8,500 sensors, covering a three-digit range of systems.

We encountered scalability issues for the product. PRTG is built as a monolithic system in an older programming language. While it works fine for us, I would prefer to see it reimplemented in a more modern, multi-process, multi-threading approach that allows for better scale-out options.

The technical support is quick and efficient, often solving issues faster than we can.

For our productive systems with almost unlimited sensors, our strategy was to distribute probes into different network segments and connect them to the central server. The initial setup process took approximately six weeks, with around 25% of our time dedicated to it.

We require two people from our side and one from our service provider for the general infrastructure. Three people maintain the system, dedicating about 10% of their work to PRTG configuration and fine-tuning.

We implemented the product with the help of our in-house team and third-party vendors. 

We also evaluated SCOM as our license and enterprise agreement almost covered it. However, PRTG is much more straightforward, especially for me, as I come from a UNIX background. The ease of use and straightforwardness of PRTG were key factors in choosing it over SCOM.

PRTG's most beneficial network monitoring feature is its SNMP solution, which supports many network devices and operating systems. 

It has an efficient system for creating dashboards, which we display on two screens in our network operating center. It serves as our main alerting source. We also receive alerts via email, though sorting through emails can be challenging. Additionally, we've developed a written solution to receive alerts via messenger on our mobile devices.

Overall, I rate it a nine out of ten. 

We use the solution for monitoring purposes.

The product is easy to understand. It is not very complicated. Even non-IT users can use it.

The support must be improved. Support platforms like live chats and emails must be available.

I have been using the solution for six months.

The tool is stable. The stability would depend on a company’s requirements. I rate the stability an eight out of ten.

There are 100 people in our organization, but only a limited number of people have access to the software. I rate the scalability a seven out of ten.

The product must provide 24/7 support so that we can ask our queries anytime.

I used ManageEngine before. ManageEngine was more detailed and accurate. It was pricey, but we were able to get real-time reports.

The tool is deployed on the cloud. The deployment can be done within a day. The initial setup is easy. Though it is an enterprise solution, I use limited features.

I use the trial version. The solution is affordable. I rate the pricing a three out of ten.

We can use the software at our own pace for our teams and personal needs. Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

We used PRTG Enterprise Monitor to ensure that all network resources performed optimally. Additionally, we monitored for any failures. The tool was used to monitor network resource performance.

If an event is detected, such as a resource running low on storage or RAM, the product will notify you via email. Upon receiving the notification, action must be taken to address and resolve the issue. The feature I find most effective is its comprehensive nature. It's like having a permanent eye monitoring the network and all its nodes. Instead of manual monitoring, it detects anomalies automatically and alerts us accordingly.

Before any failure or issue occurs, the tool notifies us if a resource starts performing poorly. This alerting allows us to address the problem before it escalates into a critical failure. It has made my life easier in terms of work. 

In my opinion, one area that could be improved in PRTG Enterprise Monitor is the capability to send SMS notifications. Notifications are crucial for alerting us to areas that require attention.

I rate the tool's stability a ten out of ten. 

I rate the product's scalability an eight out of ten. For us, it wasn't about growing the organization but gaining visibility into our network resources. It was a matter of scanning for visibility, which was fine for our needs. My company has three users who use it daily. 

I rate the tool's deployment a ten out of ten. It took three days to complete. 

The solution was deployed in-house. 

I rate the product's pricing an eight to seven out of ten. 

I would recommend PRTG Enterprise Monitor to others. It has been incredibly helpful for us in gaining full visibility into our network resources. I rate it a seven out of ten. 

We use the product for monitoring services, servers, and applications. We can also create custom integrations or custom types of sensors.

The product’s most valuable features are the extensive library and centralized creation capabilities. It provides a vast array of options for dashboard creation and monitoring of the activities within the environment. It helps in the efficient organization of various components.

PRTG involves more manual configuration, requiring the creation of connections, and setting up APIs. Instead, they could provide features similar to Datadog enabling ease of integration and out-of-the-box support for various applications and multiple platforms. Moreover, they could also introduce the installation of agents on any machine or service. They should work on minimizing false positives by sending alerts promptly and confirming errors with minimal troubleshooting requirements.

We have been using PRTG Enterprise Monitor for five years.

The platform is available 99% of the time.

We have 50 end users and around 15 to 20 end users for PRTG Enterprise Monitor. It is a scalable platform.

A team of three to four individuals was involved in the setup process. It is mitigated with a smaller team, as it helps ensure quality control and reduces the issues related to policy deviations. Challenges can arise when multiple teams, possibly with different skill sets or locations, are granted access to create sensors independently. It may lead to an increase in the number of false positives. Ideally, centralizing the responsibility for sensor creation with a dedicated team helps maintain a strong link between the monitoring tool's data and the CMDB.

PRTG Enterprise Monitor is a versatile tool for network performance monitoring across various dimensions including bandwidth, load balancers, firewalls, and servers. Its monitoring methods allow us to tailor our approach based on specific requirements, such as monitoring particular ports, measuring metrics like CPU and memory usage on servers, and observing the processes running. On the network side, PRTG enables us to measure VLANs, track the number of packets, and monitor connections, including the destination of network traffic.

The customization capabilities of dashboards enhance our monitoring efficiency. The ability to create various gauges and display specific information. It helps our operations team work 24/7 with the tool to understand the network activities and acknowledge the alerts sent to them. It becomes easier for the users to address issues related to specific sensors. The product is easy to use and has a simple process for sensor creation.

I rate it a nine out of ten.

We use the solution for monitoring. 

The product is easy to use and you don't need to have any training. You can use it even if you don't have an IT background. 

PRTG Enterprise Monitor should include more functionalities and features that are similar to SolarWinds.

The solution's technical support is fast but our customers don't need support since they use only basic features and functionalities. 

PRTG Enterprise Monitor's installation is easy and gets completed in 10-15 minutes.

I would rate PRTG Enterprise Monitor an eight out of ten. I recommend it to small, medium, and enterprise customers.
