I work in an MSP type of company where we provide NOC services to our customers. We mainly use PRTG Enterprise Monitor for our data center monitoring and customer monitoring. It is a combination of monitoring our own data center and customer environments.
The easy integration to SNMP is what I appreciate about PRTG Enterprise Monitor. I experienced some challenges with customization, but compared to what we're using such as N-central and LogicMonitor, PRTG Enterprise Monitor is easy to integrate with SNMP v2 and v3. That's the main reason we're using it. It is compatible with any sources that communicate over SNMP.
The main benefit I have seen from using PRTG Enterprise Monitor is that our NOC can catch incidents or alerts before they turn into actual P1 incidents. We are working towards extinguishing issues before they escalate to P0 or P1 status.
I have not tried to customize the dashboard yet as our NOC is relatively new to the company. Our focus has been mainly on covering all blind spots. We have a standardized dashboard, and the only customization we implemented was the traffic light component.
Alerting helps reduce downtime and enhance efficiency in our scenarios. Without customization, it can be noisy, which is one of the main challenges we experienced with PRTG Enterprise Monitor. We found ways to make it less noisy by implementing webhooks and other customizations. The foundational or default configuration can be difficult to calibrate, but integration with automations and APIs makes it easier.
I am interested in AIOps type functionality. One of the downsides is alert management when breaching certain thresholds. My idea involves implementing AI to interpret these alerts and ensure correlation against other sources. For example, if a VM keeps alerting high CPU usage and a firewall on the network keeps alerting CPU issues, it could indicate a malware alert or environmental problem. An AIOps integration would help solve some pain points that the network operations center experiences.
I have been working with PRTG Enterprise Monitor for two and a half years since starting the NOC team.
I find PRTG Enterprise Monitor stable. The main issue is resource consumption, as I have to constantly increase resources because it runs in a single server scenario. We don't implement load balancers. While the setup is acceptable, resource consumption could be more efficient.
Regarding the pricing aspect, we used to pay 5,000 dollars for PRTG Enterprise Monitor. Given that we scaled it up and there's a new pricing model, it increased to 14,000 dollars. Our CFO is unlikely to approve this budget, so we're exploring other tools that can meet the same purpose within the 5,000 dollar range.
I contact tech support when I have issues. They are helpful in providing log analysis and other assistance. However, I work during A and Z time zones and typically receive responses during US time. Response times range from one to three days for urgent issues unless escalated. The support is not very proactive.

We evaluated AlgoSec and SolarWinds. Algoreas offers excellent AI features, while SolarWinds pricing model is cheaper for certain operations. SolarWinds poses issues when disruption is detected, showing the network as down.
I recommend considering flexibility in the licensing policy to make it feasible for all customers. Also, developing a feature that provides network visualization similar to existing templates would be beneficial.

We hand over the products by buying them and then sell them to our clients. We deploy these devices and managing tools for our clients. We typically provide these solutions to enterprise-level companies, schools, colleges, offices, and multinational organizations.
The solution's ability to monitor each and every aspect of our devices, such as memory utilization and port connectivity, is valuable. However, we occasionally have to download additional WIP files and synchronize our devices with PRTG, which can be challenging. Despite this, everything else works well.
The solution could be improved by introducing security features similar to those available in Teams, as the current version only monitors devices and does not integrate IoT or OT devices.

We can change the refresh time down to seconds. It improves the response time. It has good response time for support. If someone from our department installed PRTG, they will take care of it and provide support. If our company provides PRTG, we will give them the support and be available 24/7 for that.
There are many types of alerts in PRTG. So, it has great alerting capabilities.
There is no automatic fault management. PRTG lacks customization and flexibility. It doesn't have a unified monitor, meaning it doesn't have the scope for every application, up to the application and databases, and visualizations.
There is no unified monitoring in PRTG. It needs a lot of improvement in terms of integration. PRTG lags in integration. There is no third-party integration available. They must work on it.
It has issues with scalability. I would rate the scalability a two out of ten. They really need to work on it.
The support is provided by a third party for PRTG solutions to any other clients. In that case, the company will provide 24/7 support and charge for it.
There is no ticketing system, and there is no integration as I told you earlier. It doesn't support a ticketing system. But OpManager will integrate with ServiceDesk Plus, a service desk tool with a comprehensive ticketing system. It can raise and resolve tickets, and create scenarios to do any specific tasks automatically, but you need to configure all of that.
