Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature of PRTG Network Monitor is the dashboards. We can check to see the resources and the uptime.""PRTG gives us true visibility of the downtime of particular circuit functions. So if a circuit is up but not routing traffic, I will know with this tool. I can write a customized script for a sensor to detect specific things.""The solution is scalable.""It is easy when it comes to dependencies of devices, so if your router goes down, the three or four switches behind it will automatically be paused so that you don't get multiple alerts.""It is great for service level agreements and can comply fully with internet monitoring or any interface.""PRTG Network Monitor's best features are its flexibility, ease of implementation, user-friendliness, and intuitive interfaces.""I found PRTG Network Monitor very useful for troubleshooting and monitoring the utilization of either the network or server.""It is very flexible, and we can monitor many aspects of IT as well as ERP and CRM services. It has a very powerful interface and APIs for customization."

"What I like most about Zenoss Service Dynamics is that it monitors the devices and gives close to real-time alerts. For example, in case the device is not available, Zenoss Service Dynamics generates an alert so my team can resolve the issue.""It's easy to use.""The product offers good documentation that helps with initial training."

Cons
"There is room for improvement in this solution for the performance and third-party monitoring protocols. They need to be updated to the latest ones.""I would like to see more updates available in this solution.""In the next release, PRTG Network Monitor should add a backup solution.""The licensing policy needs more flexibility.""More training videos for installing and configuring this software would have been nice, especially when working with a lot of devices.""I would like to see network mapping.""The free version only gives us 100 free sensors to use. It would be nice if there was double that.""I would like the ability to monitor Cisco IRS devices."

More PRTG Network Monitor Cons →

"As Zenoss Service Dynamics is more for network-centric devices and you want to monitor, for example, a server, its services, IP addresses, and interfaces, if it's a network and you're going to monitor multiple items, you'll be charged multiple times. This is what Zenoss Service Dynamics needs to improve to make sure that customers pay just one fee to monitor the entire server. What I'd like to see in Zenoss Service Dynamics in the future is a public cloud monitoring feature, particularly for the Azure public cloud. Another additional feature I'd like to see in the next release of the solution is integration with the Azure public cloud because I know that there are some services from Azure that Zenoss Service Dynamics is currently unable to monitor.""The AI aspect needs to improve.""It would be ideal if the product offered sound alerts."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is expensive."
  • "It's an annual license that is based on the number of endpoints that we're tracking and using."
  • "All monitoring system is close to the same pricing scheme."
  • "The price is pretty comparable."
  • "The pricing is okay and it is cheaper than some competing products."
  • "We are using the basic PRTG that we can download for free. For now, we only need to monitor less than 100 devices. For more than 100 devices, we would need to buy a license. PRTG is much cheaper than SolarWinds."
  • "We have an unlimited license for this solution."
  • "I'm paying something like €1000 per year for the maintenance. I've got unlimited sensors."
  • More PRTG Network Monitor Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The pricing depends on the environment, the number of services, and the size of the data center. It can go from $100,000 to a million dollars."
  • "There are additional costs you'll have to pay apart from the license fee for Zenoss Service Dynamics. I can't remember exactly how much my company is paying because I don't handle the finance part, but the cost is paid annually. On a scale of one to five, with one being the cheapest and five being the most expensive, I'm rating the solution three out of five."
