Gained full visibility and streamlined threat detection through behavior-based insights and AI integration
Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth. We have fine-tuned our security policies and allowed different levels of policies to get rid of those false positives. Currently, we are getting a fairly good amount of incidents that are not false positives or benign, but actionable items. The process is streamlined. In the initial days, the operations used to get involved in a lot of benign and other activities, but now the process is streamlined. We are leveraging the auto-detection and remediation plans. The operations teams are now more involved in other business roles as well, not just looking into the logs and fetching out what's happening there. They have fixed a lot of things. Initially, they didn't have IAC code drift detection, cloud posture management, or security posture management, but they have those now. They purchased different vendors and did a merger with that. They have now Prisma Cloud that gets integrated and now they are working with Cortex Cloud. Everything that was negative has now been addressed, and the product altogether looks to be in a very better and mature shape now. Currently, it's more or less detecting the workloads with AI-based best practices. Since most organizations are consuming AI agents and other things, we are looking forward to seeing what other feature enhancements Palo Alto can support in that.

Brand threats have been monitored proactively and intelligence now drives daily security decisions
I am an end user of Mandiant Advantage. Mandiant Advantage's intelligence is good, and their service is good, but the price they charge is just too high. It's not that they're not supplying what they're selling; it's simply that the price is high, and putting a tag on that cost is somewhat problematic. I would rate Mandiant Advantage an 8 out of 10. I do not consider Mandiant Advantage an affordable solution at all. The prices are very high and very expensive. The price of Mandiant Advantage is not justified. It's really expensive, and it's so expensive that I'm not sure I will continue next year with their service.

Has supported compliance needs for mid-sized organizations but lacks customization and advanced integration
If we pitch Rapid7 InsightIDR against solutions such as SIEMs from Splunk or LogRhythm, it is not as customizable as a SIEM solution is. This is where it can improve if we keep in front the feature sets of a complete SIEM solution. Most common in the market is QRadar, but it is depleting now. It has been taken over by some other products such as Splunk and LogRhythm. If we compare these things with Rapid7 InsightIDR, then there are definitely some gaps that need to be filled. Data retention is also one concern because Rapid7 InsightIDR is cloud-based and operates on a subscription model. Whatever data you want to retain, it has to be paid for separately or it has a cost. Other solutions that are on-premises can have their own infrastructure or they provide some data retention for a month or in some capacity-wise, they provide that solution to them which makes them more attractive.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"They have a new GUI which is just fantastic."
"It blocks malicious files, prevents attacks, and doesn't require many updates because it is a very light application."
"The live terminal is probably the best thing ever. It gives you the access to get straight onto any machine."
"Overall, it's a great platform; it integrates very well with other solutions from Palo Alto and also with our vendors, the ease of use is excellent, I love the root cause analysis from Cortex, which is amazing, and in a few clicks you can have the full root cause."
"I recommend this solution to others because it is easy to manage, reliable, and overall good to use."
"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks should be a stable solution."
"Best solution for avoiding security breaches, malware attacks, and other kinds of security issues."
"Stability is a primary factor, and then there's the ease of distribution and policy management; Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is very easy to work with, and we're quite happy with them."
"The live IOC feed identifies the type, technique, and tactics used."
"The advantage of the solution is being able to go look up threat actors and get a lot of detailed information about different attacks and different tactics and general information about threats."
"Mandiant Advantage is excellent at providing the full context and all the information, where the information was found, and the full data, including the raw data that was uploaded onto the Internet."
"It is so valuable to have someone performing these functions outside of our business hours when we don't have staff in the building. We've seen a lot of solid metrics on the amount of malware that it's detecting and resolving. We're pleased with it so far."
"The scalability of Mandiant Advantage deserves a ten out of ten."
"The feature I have found most valuable is directory monitoring. We experienced an instance of threat actors trying to ensure a complex and massive attack against our customer's infrastructure on the forum. That is, they were animating people on a formum. The solution alerted us to this two days ahead of the attack, which gave us plenty of time to prepare for it."
"Mandiant Advantage has helped me enhance operational efficiency overall because it enriched our SIEM, which is Splunk, and the YARA rules I wrote within the platform help me understand better what my threat landscape is."
"I have never faced stability issues."
"I am able to run automated actions based on the output of reports, leaving me extra time to focus on more pressing matters."
"Previously, when something happened, such as when a hacker was attacking one of our customers, we were always behind, or we did not know that we were hacked until the ransomware started, but with the Rapid7 solution, at every step, we could online see what a person was doing, and we could prevent ransomware."
"It improved my organization by building a security alerting program."
"Rapid7's reporting is more robust than Tenable's."
"Intelligent alerting to avoid the common problem of alert fatigue associated with traditional SIEMs."
"Very intuitive and easy to set up."
"The log aggregation and storage provided by InsightIDR has shown no issues with scalability; aggregating over one hundred millions events daily."
"It is a very stable solution."

Cons

"I would like to see some additional features related to email protection included."
"A little bit more automation would be nice."
"The technical support is not very good. I find the process difficult."
"The solution could improve by providing better integration with their own products and others."
"The product's pricing could be better."
"The solution could improve by providing better integration with their own products and others."
"It tends to do 99.9% of things. The only thing I'd like is single sign-on authentication into their cloud platform so that my users can be properly authenticated against it."
"The GUI could be improved."
"Mandiant's on-prem client is too processor-intensive, so it's putting a strain on the local device's CPU. When a scan is running on the device, the other processing tasks slow to a crawl. We're still trying to figure out the correct settings for the client."
"Sometimes Mandiant Advantage becomes noisy when dealing with widely recognized companies due to false positives."
"They could have better support. Now that they've merged, they are moving towards a portal system, which isn't very helpful."
"I have already given them feedback that their UI needs improvement since sometimes there is a lag. The side-by-side depiction of request response and action clogs the screen."
"Collaboration of data in my view becomes a bit clogged, requiring effort to understand visually."
"I think that the data query that is used for data cloud language should be improved. It's really hard to query actual data from the platform."
"Sometimes Mandiant Advantage becomes noisy when dealing with widely recognized companies due to false positives."
"Mandiant Advantage's platform itself is not good yet. They have many bugs because they changed the platform, so from time to time it's simply not working at all."
"InsightIDR is only available in a cloud version. Some of our customers prefer an on-prem solution because they want to manage the security within their environment."
"It would be useful to import threat intelligence in YARA format along with known incorrect email addresses."
"I would like to see more development in InsightIDR towards building their SIEM solution and converting it to XDR."
"The integration capabilities of the solution have certain shortcomings where improvements are required."
"I feel it would greatly benefit from more supported log sources."
"Tenable Nessus is easier to deal with. It's more efficient and accurate. InsightIDR is heavier than Tenable in terms of performance and scanning. Rapid7 would be much easier to use if it had a network connector like Tenable. Tenable's connector allows continuous monitoring over the B caps."
"The reporting is the weakest aspect. There needs to be multi-level grouping for events (for example, group by user and destination)."
"One of the things that could be better is digital forensics. It is there, but it can be better."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution has one subscription for endpoint protection and one subscription for detection and response. The two licenses combined give you the BRO version."
"Its pricing is kind of in line with its competitors and everybody else out there."
"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is an expensive solution."
"The cost depends on your chosen license type, like Pro or other licenses."
"Traps pays for itself within the first 16 months of a three-year subscription. This is attributed to OPEX savings, as security teams spent less time trying to identify and isolate malware for analysis as a result of a reduction in malware incidents, false positives, and breach avoidance."
"I did PoCs on products called Cylance and CrowdStrike. Although, I consider these products and they were also good, when it come to cost and budgetary factors, Traps has been proven to be better than the other two products. It is quite cost-effective and delivers all the entire solution which we require."
"Cortex XDR is a costly solution."
"It has a yearly renewal."
Information not available
"It is a reasonably priced solution."
"Rapid7 InsightIDR charges us based on the endpoints we connect to."
"I am sure that there are cheaper products out there, but none that meet so many of our needs whilst maintaining stability and usability."
"The pricing of the solution depends on the user. But there is a yearly licensing cost."
"Licensing is straightforward. If, for some reason, you don’t meet the minimum licensing requirements, there is a third-party managed service that can help."
"Rapid7 InsightIDR is a cheaply priced product. On a scale of one to ten, where one is very expensive, and ten is very cheap, I rate the product's price at seven or eight."
"The pricing is good, and it is not very expensive."
"Accurately predict your licensing counts as this is a subscription based product."
