We performed a comparison between HPE Nimble Storage dHCI and HPE SimpliVity based on our users’ reviews in four categories. After reading the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Both of these HPE solutions are part of the Hewlett Packard Enterprise brand of excellent data management products. Users say HPE SimpliVity is the more comprehensive product. It is a very user-friendly, simple product to use, implement, and manage. The storage virtualization layers and super fast backups make it extremely valuable. Some users say HPE Nimble Storage dHCI can be a bit buggy and should provide better file-level restoration and DVX system options.
"The solution offers easy one-click PowerShell scripts that are ready to run."
"The StarWind tech support is extremely helpful, especially during the initial setup."
"I like StarWind's high availability. The failover is almost immediate, so the end users have no idea the guest VM moved at all. We can failover all guest VMs onto a single hypervisor, place it into maintenance mode, install updates, and reboot a hypervisor all during the daytime and remotely, with confidence the process will be successful."
"The control panel is nice. It gives you a lot of good feedback as to the status and health of the VSAN."
"Starwind made it easy to deploy fully redundant, highly available storage at a low cost."
"The main benefit is that StarWind is almost maintenance-free."
"Training is also easy as it is just one system to learn."
"StarWind vSAN has allowed us to leverage our server infrastructure more completely without the need to add more hardware."
"HPE Nimble Storage dHCI's user interface is very easy to work with."
"The latency is very low."
"HPE's InfoSight software, which does the comparative analysis and artificial intelligence built-in in the box, and with Nimble they do well against the competition. Additionally, the dashboards are good."
"With regards to performance, configuration, and longevity it is upgradeable, which means it has a good TCO rate. These are valuable aspects to me."
"I love InfoSite. That gets you a lot of good detailed information."
"The solution is useful for taking storage snapshots, has high performance, and the CASL architecture is good for optimizing workloads."
"Very good in-line compression."
"It is easier to manage compared to the other vendors."
"The biggest benefit of this solution is that If you use it, you can use it for the company headquarters and also for all the branches. You use the same system, only a smaller size. With SimipliVity you can also use the included backup solution. You don't need any other solution to back up the data or to transfer it."
"The built-in backup and quick restore are good features."
"The initial setup was straightforward."
"The way it does backups is its most valuable feature. It replicates snapshots with very low bandwidth. We only have a 50 megabit link to that site, and it doesn't really use much of it at all. Therefore, it is a really good fit for getting our backups done."
"It has instantaneous backup and lag-free restore. When everything is running, I can bring back a huge VM in less than 30 seconds. That's even better than Veeam."
"The replication from the different centers (the main to the secondary) has been very great. It is good value for us."
"The solution is very stable."
"The compression and deduplication ratio."
"Performance when in storage-separate configuration needs to be improved."
"Geolocation could be better, for example, for site mirroring for DR purposes."
"I found that certain browsers are not fully compatible with the administration web access portal."
"A central management console may be nice to see all nodes."
"One main thing this product needs to work on is reporting."
"When you will cease your contract with StarWind (for support) your product won't be updated and that is a big selling point, especially for us, as we have loads of products from StarWind."
"I did not see any indication that StarWinds vSAN is a usable solution with non-GUI instances of Hyper-V."
"A better overall view of the different deployments could be beneficial, although this is difficult due to how flexible the solution is."
"I'm not sure if there are features lacking."
"The product’s performance needs improvement. It could also help with more environment monitoring and AI technologies to improve the performance and thresholds."
"The solution could improve by providing better file-level restoration and DVX system options."
"They should improve just the support."
"Nimble Storage's integration with the management software could be better."
"Software upgrade is still more complicated than the competitors, so that's an area of improvement."
"Cost-wise, this solution is slightly more expensive than other hyperconverged solutions."
"HPE Nimble Storage dHCI's website does not open properly or work consistently."
"Once I am onto the SimpliVity environment, I always have to go with HP because I am somewhat blocked, like Apple. Secondly, if I want to increase only storage, I need to buy an entire computing node for that, an entire HCI node."
"Product doesn't scale."
"The compatibility with other products needs an improvement."
"The upgrades need improvement."
"SimpliVity has little to no integrations."
"The initial setup was a little complex because we were in the first version, fresh releases."
"The price is quite high. The system could also be more scalable."
"The solution could improve by adding better support of the VMware add-ons and a more intuitive user interface for administrators."
