Monitoring has provided factual end‑to‑end insights and supports proactive incident response
From using HPE Aruba Networking UXI, I have access to real numbers for latency, packet drops, and other metrics. We also have a pretty intensive alerting mechanism that works on specific IPs for all our sites that are pinging, so if they are not reachable, we will have an alert and an incident created. I assess the value of HPE Aruba Networking UXI's application visibility in enhancing network performance as great. HPE Aruba Networking UXI's remote troubleshooting capabilities help me manage my distributed networks in a great way because we are not relying on user input. We are relying on real facts from HPE Aruba Networking UXI devices that are placed end-of-line on all our factories.

The open architecture is easy to extend and enhance
Pandora could deliver better analytics out of the box. You can work around these limitations with the help of other tools like Grafana. The shortcomings are mostly on the graphical side. The built-in report generators are a bit limited in some areas. They could improve their management console's ability to monitor large environments could be improved. For example, SNMP management is only partially integrated into the management console.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The integration of HPE Aruba Networking UXI with other security and networking tools is quite robust, allowing us to collect information from firewalls, routers, access points, and more, and present it through Grafana to proactively address issues before clients open support tickets."
"Aruba products have significantly improved our network reliability, as none of my teammates have logged a call to Aruba in the past year."
"There was definitely an ROI with the use cases I have had; when you see that the network issues and trouble tickets that are opening start to decrease, that is where your ROI starts coming in regarding productivity."
"The most valuable feature of HP Aruba Networking UX-I is its 24/7 monitoring capability."
"The performance, elasticity, and efficiency of Aruba products have been exceptional."
"HPE Aruba Networking UXI's remote troubleshooting capabilities help me manage my distributed networks in a great way because we are not relying on user input and are relying on real facts from HPE Aruba Networking UXI devices that are placed end-of-line on all our factories."
"Pandora's architecture is interesting; it's open so you can easily extend and enhance it, it's simpler to customize Pandora compared to other solutions, and it's also scalable enough to support large environments."
"The open-source version offers 100% functionality and the hardware requirements for a solution like this one are very modest."
"It is easy to create your own custom modules if you just know a little bit of scripting. If you have unique requirements, you can just make your own modules. You can even grab checks from other vendors. There are open-source checks for various things such as SMTP, etc. There is a long list of different ones from Nagios. You can just use them, and within seconds, you get yourself a check that is monitoring whatever you need. It is really flexible. I guess that's why they call it Pandora Flexible Monitoring System (FMS). It is reliable. It does the job, and it alerts. It is also surprisingly feature-rich. Our network guy just recently asked about a particular protocol to monitor the bandwidth on the network, which is not a common protocol. When I looked it up, and I found that they cover it. It is very mature for a not-so-known product."
"Each of these points I think represents the keys as to why this software works in my jewelry stores, as it gives me greater control over all of the devices, the best performance, and I can interpret the data easily and much faster, with excellent results."
"The most valuable features are auto-discovery and automatic detection of the network topology and network monitoring."
"Network monitoring is fun again with Pandora FMS."
"The support is excellent for this product; their response time is very fast, and they are very knowledgeable."
"The network monitoring and configuration within this solution is very good."

Cons

"It would be beneficial if the tool offered a less expensive subscription as it is currently costly for our clients."
"Some manual administrative tasks still need to be triggered manually, leading to lower efficiency."
"They could improve their services."
"Areas where the HPE Aruba Networking UXI can improve include the integration of SD-WAN and security in a single solution."
"The product lacks APIs for integration with other systems and we have issues with monitoring."
"I sincerely believe that Pandora needs new ideas for functionality closer to advanced device security monitoring."
"Their support is good, but it is just online communication. It would be great to be able to just call someone and talk to them instead of always writing. It works well for me because I am a decent communicator in email, but some people might find it difficult to describe in a written fashion and communicate with them that way. There is a learning curve to the interface, but once you get used to it, it is actually very powerful. They have a lot of options, but people struggle with the interface. They've improved it though, and it is getting better. They need to keep improving the learning curve to help buy-in. I'm the guy that manages it, so I'm comfortable with it. They can refine the upgrade agents to be easier. They can also do more refinement in end-user usability because not everyone is strong technically, and people who aren't strong technically might be averse to the product, even though it has come a long way. It has a complete GUI and everything."
"Pandora FMS is an overall great monitoring solution, but it does not have a community that is as large as Zabbix or Nagios."
"I would like to have a dashboard with all assets displayed, with a quick hover-over status."
"The price for Pandora FMS is expensive."
"It would be helpful to include the generation of reports for times that the network was out of service."
"They can also do more refinement in end-user usability because not everyone is strong technically, and people who aren't strong technically might be averse to the product, even though it has come a long way."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"You have to pay for the number of agents and models that you are monitoring. I would rate the cost at three with one being the most expensive and five being the cheapest."
"Growing the solution or migrating to the Enterprise version is easy, and various plans are available."
"My rule of thumb would be that if you need more than thirty agents, and you lack an automation tool such as Chef or Puppet, you will save a lot of time and money going to the Enterprise edition."
"Only one payment and it includes support, updates, new versions, and access to the complete library of plugins except for SAP and z/OS."
"They are very competitive on the pricing side. That's one reason why my manager keeps using it."
"In terms of money, the Enterprise version is the cheapest that I have found after a market study."
"You get the license and it includes updates, new versions, and access to the complete library of modules."
"The Open Source Community Edition is great to just explore the software, or use it on medium-sized infrastructures."
