Lacks multi-platform support and physical infrastructure but excels in storage optimization
We use it for VM backup and Office 365 backup I find the solution to be user-friendly and easy to manage and deploy. It provides storage for Office 365, which is beneficial, and the deduplication technology is excellent, especially in optimizing storage capacity compared to others. In terms of…

Though this tool lacks the features to allow backups on the same server, it is very easy to use
During the current times, solutions must have a backup system from a main server, and an active directory service. Also, it is no longer important to have a backup for different environments, such as databases, application servers, and web servers. However, ManageEngine RecoveryManager Plus must get a main server for itself.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We use the latest feature in Altaro called CDP (Continuous Data Protection) to back up our VMs as often as every five minutes. It allows us to make sure no data is accidentally deleted or overwritten."
"The product has many valuable features for handling backup needs, including replication, live migration, and incremental disaster recovery."
"Reverse Delta is Altaro proprietary backup deduplication technology. With Reverse Delta, the latest version of a file is always made available in its entirety, not as a delta file."
"Excellent compression and deduplication with off-site WAN backup included."
"We frequently use the granular restore option for when our users accidentally delete files or to recover emails from mailboxes. We have found that to be a must-have feature and it comes with the solution at no extra cost."
"This solution is stable."
"I find the solution to be user-friendly and easy to manage and deploy."
"The initial setup was simple and easy. Anyone without prior experience can install, configure, and use it."
"Along with its active directory infrastructure, this solution also possesses the ability to recover and exchange, making it a valuable backup tool."

Cons

"It would be nice to see a feature that backs up the host so that, in case of a server failure, an entire server could be restored all at once."
"Availability of physical server backup would be an added advantage."
"Basically, how it works is that you have a single local drive, and then you have a cloud backup. It'd be nice if you could rotate the single local backup drive. As of now, you can't."
"The cloud backup and VMware support (now available in the latest releases), could do with some improvement."
"Hornetsecurity Altaro VM Backup could be improved in several areas, such as enhancing scalability features and possibly reducing the price."
"Migrating the physical through a backup and restore to a virtual environment would be very helpful."
"If you look into the performance of a virtual machine and you look to the performance of the physical machine, the correlation between these is totally unclear."
"The solution needs multi-platform support as it is currently only available for VMware and Hyper-V. It also lacks support for physical servers and workstations."
"The solution has few features as it does not focus on managing anything in the application."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Altaro had the best prices and ROI in the whole bunch that we evaluated."
"There is a free version for Hosts with 2 VMs."
"VMware is a little pricey, but it is a good solution and priced similar to other products."
"Its yearly maintenance fee is fairly high for me to renew for upgrades and support."
"There is a free version for two VMs. I would advise to study the deployment environment well, prior to committing to order a license per host."
"Altaro VM Backup is affordably priced. It is a best value for its price and has almost every feature that an expensive, popular product offers."
"By implementing the solution at multiple locations, significant cost savings were achieved."
"No other product offers these features for this price. The ROI is great."
"The license cost for this solution is cheap."
