A stable solution with an intuitive interface and quick customer service
I have been working with Fortinet FortiGate, WatchGuard, Sophos, and SonicWall. I'm not as comfortable with SonicWall because of their UI and limitations. I prefer Fortinet above all other options. When it comes to configuration, I am confident in my ability to handle various tasks, including creating policies such as firewall rules, web policies, and application policies. Additionally, I can configure VPNs and implement load balancing, among other tasks. Overall, I feel much more comfortable working with Fortinet. Fortinet has made significant improvements by integrating AI with firewalls for threat analysis and prevention. In the past 2-3 years, they have launched FortiSASE and SIEM, and they also provide SOC services. Both Palo Alto and Fortinet FortiGate are excellent. While Fortinet FortiGate comes at higher prices, the functionality and support justify the cost. They promptly resolve firmware issues and inform all support providers about configuration changes.

Cloud security has strengthened compliance and now protects internet access for our workloads
The best features Check Point CloudGuard Network Security offers are its threat emulation and threat extraction blade as well as bring your own license where you can use the on-prem Check Point CloudGuard and decommission it to use in the cloud. I believe Check Point CloudGuard Network Security has impacted our organization positively because it is one of the stable products that I have used till now, and we do not have to upgrade Check Point CloudGuard Network Security for any sort of CVE or bug in its OS and it is very stable. Check Point CloudGuard Network Security has decreased the organizational risk because it provides compliance with HIPAA as well as PCI DSS by means of its compliance blade. It makes it easier for us to determine if we are compliant or not. It made me more secure because when you talk about security, Check Point CloudGuard Network Security is on top of the list with 99.8 in blocking malware according to the Miercom list. I believe it has had a positive effect and we have not had any incidents.

Offers good scalability and monitoring features
There is room for improvement in the UI. They can improve it by making it so that everything is in one place, so we don't have to jump around to different pages. For example, if we're creating a rule, we should be able to do everything on the same page. Just a drop-down thing or something. This would improve productivity.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I haven't configured or experienced any stability issues."
"I like the common administration and the possibility of adding Fortinet defense systems."
"The centralized management allowed us to manage 50 devices effectively, which I found better than Cisco."
"The enterprise-level support is excellent, and we receive quick assistance from Fortinet FortiGate."
"Valuable features include the Web Application Firewall, and it even has DLP (data leak prevention)."
"The solution is stable."
"We use it to avoid unwanted traffic."
"FortiGate is easier to use as compared to Checkpoint devices; it is user friendly and has a good UI, so you don't need much expertise to work on this firewall and you don't need to worry much about DCLA, commands, and things like that."
"We consolidated from three management consoles and three clusters to only one, which is a big improvement."
"Overall, it's really working for us."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is that you can start off with a simple firewall and expand it to UTM."
"Moving into the cloud without having to change a lot of our internal processes and retrain staff is one of the biggest benefits of this solution."
"It gives us more confidence in secure cloud deployments."
"When browsing, it scans sites to ensure that they are safe and that no harm can be caused."
"It matches what we have on-prem. We kept the same management and the same functionality that we were having on-prem. It has simplified things for us because there is no new dashboard to touch."
"The program is very stable."
"It was easy to initially deploy it."

Cons

"We would like to see better pricing."
"We faced difficulties with the configuration because there are many features we could optimize using Fortinet FortiGate, but our reseller didn't have a good understanding of it. So, we just use it on a basic level, not with the best practice for using FortiGate."
"The UTM filtering control could be improved."
"The only problem that we have here in China is that the whole subscription process on Fortinet is a little bit difficult if you are doing it from China."
"We understand that FortiGate cannot be standalone without others, such as FortiManager, so for small businesses, if FortiGate can provide something similar to FortiManager, it will be better."
"A couple of things I've seen that need improvement, especially in terms of a hard coding. The driver-level active moment really is out-of-the-box and we have to have contact the customer support and sometimes it is difficult to resolve."
"Price, of course, can always be more competitive or better."
"We were not able to build a full-mesh VPN; however, I am not sure if this was the fault of Fortinet FortiGate."
"We have a rule that pops up from nowhere which we didn't create; when we restart our Virtual System firewall, it creates a rule which messes up all our internet connection."
"The solution needs to improve the interruptions that happen during gateway upgrades."
"While today we can manage some scopes, there are still some segments in the OSI layer we cannot manage."
"The deployment was not easy."
"It is a very expensive program and there are additional costs despite the standard licensing fees."
"The networking system updates, when delayed, can lead to misconfigurations and data loss."
"We have the product deployed on Azure China. One crucial concern is the version limitation; unfortunately, in Azure China, we are restricted to running version R80. Our architecture has a Load Balancer, VMSS CloudGuard, etc. The duplication in this setup prevents the application from seeing the original client IP. This poses a problem for certain applications that require the original IP for login purposes. Although we managed a workaround with a different architecture involving a WAF, it is not as straightforward as the standard Azure setup."
"The documentation could be much better."
"There is room for improvement in the UI. They can improve it by making it so that everything is in one place, so we don't have to jump around to different pages."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing scheme of Fortinet is better than Cisco. It is more logical."
"The license of Fortinet FortiGate should be reduced."
"FortiGate Next Generation Firewall is a very cheap solution."
"Its pricing is good. It's average or normal as compared to Palo Alto and Check Point firewalls."
"FortiGate Next Generation Firewall is an expensive solution with a yearly subscription."
"It is not expensive as compared to Cisco."
"They are more expensive than others."
"I rate the product's pricing a seven out of ten. The additional cost depends on the extra feature requirements."
"It's not very expensive. It isn't very cheap either. Its price is okay. It depends on how much money you have. It might be expensive for some companies. Its licensing is on a yearly basis."
"I know that we have an enterprise agreement with Check Point. That gives us some benefits, but I do not have more information about that."
"It is fair. Its license covers all the features. There is a cost-benefit. The licensing for the cloud is better than on-premises because, with on-premises, you have to pay separately for different things."
"You get charged only for what resources you choose and how much traffic actually passes through the firewall, which in turn saves a lot of money."
"Although I don't have specifics for pricing, based on my overall experience, I can conclude that Check Point provides the best pricing when comparing to other vendors."
"The pricing and licensing have been good. We just had to do a license increase for our portion of it. We had that done within a couple of days. Given the fact that it's purely a software-based license, it ends up being even quicker than doing it for an on-prem firewall."
"The tool's pricing is been higher than other solutions, but it seems like it's turning downwards."
"As a partner and solution provider for the last fifteen years, I have distanced myself from specific numbers. However, customer trust in the product is evident due to its comprehensive protective capabilities."
