We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"DNS aliases, which we use extensively in our applications are a valuable feature.""The most valuable feature is the IPAMs, which provide visibility into all the IP addresses on the network.""BlueCat Integrity provides us with flexibility and visibility that we did not have before.""The most valuable features are scalability and cloud infrastructure.""It's a critical infrastructure piece. This is where all the IPs are named for the whole organization. It's a big deal. It has all the features related to DNS and DHCP. It's pretty amazing.""One of the key features enabling us to operate at our current scale is robust automation.""The most valuable piece, which has been a lifesaver, would be the BlueCat DNS resolver. BlueCat Cloud DNS resolver is a tool that takes a look into your cloud's DNS and then reports back everything it finds into BlueCat's DNS Edge solution. The Edge solution has a bunch of nice rules that you can configure to route the DNS traffic. That automation alone is a lifesaver for me for the day-to-day churn of the DNS components that change on an hourly, daily basis.""Managing our BDI infrastructure globally is simple, and BlueCat's personalized relationship with us is valuable to our organization."

"One of the most valuable features of this solution has been DNS security. It has a solid foundation for building DNS, DHCP, and Advanced Threat Prevention.""Before IPAM (IP Address Management) came into the picture, every user had to depend on an Active Directory engineer to get an IP assigned. With Infoblox IPAM, there's automation or auto assignment of IP addresses which is a valuable feature. There's also the capability of storing many networks in one place through the solution. Infoblox IPAM solved the major issue of needing an Active Directory engineer to assign an IP.""Regarding DDI, I would say the best feature of Infoblox is the DNS security. DNS tunneling is a significant security issue and is very difficult to protect against based on our tests with other types of security devices. However, Infoblox eliminates this issue and provides excellent security against a difficult threat.""Infoblox gives us the flexibility to manage our internal networks and publish the data outside of the network on the internet. It's quite fluid to do it.""It helps to avoid manual mistakes and we can add the proper DNS if we add an Alias name to that. We are aware of the CNAME we need to use. By using Infoblox as a DNS, we can add the A and PTR records, which is helpful for the lookup as well as the reverse lookup.""For me, the best feature of Infoblox IPAM is that you can use BloxOne DDI which means you can manage everything from the cloud and have security policies as well. I also like that Infoblox IPAM is plug-and-play.""This is a DDI solution and having one management control has been most useful.""The features we found the most valuable were being able to handle DHCP scopes and handing out DHCP leases. We weren't doing some of the things that we can do, such as DNS query rate limiting. Our usage was pretty standard. We wanted to be able to track our IP addresses to create DNS entries and then create DHCP and manage DHCP scopes. We used the standard features the most."

Cons
"While the product is IPAM, DNS, and DHCP, it does provide NTP functionality, but one of the things that they have yet to correct or catch up with is NTP authentication. There are new standards being pushed out and they are lagging a little bit in supporting them.""The technical support is slow and has room for improvement.""One complaint about the interface is BlueCat's handling of subzones.""The solution does not export reports in a comprehensive format.""The UI is outdated and needs a modern refresh.""Usability needs to be better.""I would like the GUI to be similar to AWS and Azure, where we can simply click on an item to expand it and see all the information on one page, without having to click to the next page.""The DNS and DHCP servers for guests are separated from the main organization. A lot of times, it doesn't allow you to choose a default IP space. When I log in to the GUI, it doesn't default to where I want it to be. So far, I haven't been able to find out how to change or specify that so that it defaults to a particular space, such as the main org. If I'm looking for the IP space for guests, I need to toggle and go to the guest site. Most of the time, I want the IP space for the org to be my main space, but it doesn't give me the ability to do that, or I haven't been able to find that over the last two years."

"When we use the forwarders or when we're trying to connect with the internet, sometimes there are issues and the publishing time is longer.""How you track IPs within a subnet and how all of that works was not intuitive to me. If I compare it to VitalQIP, I create a subnet, and it's a slash 24 size. It's very easy. I look, and here are my 254 IPs. I can then see if I have assigned a static, do I have a DHCP scope, and what's the name of the device. That's all there in front of me. The thing that I found frustrating with Infoblox was that it was not very intuitive.""From an IPAM standpoint, DHCP is an area that needs to be improved.""The marketing of the solution could improve to give customers the awareness of the benefits.""The only room for improvement in Infoblox IPAM is its compatibility and flexibility with IPv6. There's been an issue transitioning from IPv4 to IPv6, and though Infoblox is in the process of resolving the issue, it would be better if the team could come up with a solution in a quicker timeframe. Better transitioning from IPv4 to IPv6 is what I'd like to see in the next release of the solution.""The solution is not easy to use; the GUI and CLI are challenging to use, limiting end-user capability. We can't use Linux terminal features with Infoblox, as it struggles to detect and troubleshoot problems. We generally use troubleshooting tools like tcpdump in our network security area and we can use that in Infoblox with limited features.""CLI needs to be user-friendly. There should be an option to commit changes.""The scope of our use of this solution is limited to the DDI IPAM solution for Infoblox. This solution could be improved by offering multiple integrations with IPAM which could already exist but we aren't aware of them."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Adaptive DNS's price depends on your network ranges, the services you want, and the level of support you require."
  • "Overall, it's a decent price for the product. There are other vendors that have support models and costs that are, sometimes, double what Bluecat charges."
  • "They're competitive. The way they run their model is good. Could it stand some tweaking? Sure. There are some items there. One of the things I looked at in the recent past was their container solutions. You have to pay for licensing to use their containerized platform, but the licensing doesn't include the container licensing itself. I'd love to be able to have one big package per se."
  • "Compared to other solutions, BlueCat Integrity offers a competitive price."
  • "BlueCat Integrity meets our expectations and aligns with our budget forecast."
  • "Overall, I would say that it is priced fairly, though perhaps a bit on the high side."
  • "We paid around $5,000 per year for SolarWinds, and now we pay around $20,000 per year for BlueCat, but we have less downtime and fewer issues with DNS and DHCP."
  • "While BlueCat falls on the expensive side, its exceptional customer service and consistent quality justify the cost."

  • "The price of the solution is reasonable compared to competitors, such as Akamai."
  • "The licensing cost for Infoblox IPAM depends on your usage and also depends on your term plans, for example, you may want it for three months, six months, or only for seven days. I don't remember the exact licensing cost, but it depends on your organization's structure and how many networks you are going to need."
  • "The cost depends on the scale at which we're deploying it. It's an annual subscription that ranges between $1,000 and $2,000."
  • "We purchase yearly licenses, and I don't know the exact price as I'm not involved in the finance or sales departments. Infoblox is one of the more expensive products in the DDI environment, so I would say that for organizations looking to combine DNS, DSTP, and IP management with security features, the solution is worth it. However, for organizations only looking for an IP management tool, for example, many more affordable options are available."
  • "Infoblox IPAM is a licensed product, and my company pays for it yearly. It depends on the licensing model you choose because right now, the solution can also be subscription-based, specifically the cloud version, but the traditional licensing model for it is one that's paid yearly. The cost would depend on the organization. I know how much my company pays for Infoblox IPAM, but I won't disclose that information. If your company has $10,000,000 or $20,000,000, for example, and you need stability, then I'd say the solution is worth it. If your company is a startup, then the solution may not be worth it, but it would still depend on the ability of your company because Infoblox IPAM is one of the costlier solutions in the market."
  • "They were expensive. They were known to be expensive. In general, they used to at least try to encourage you to upgrade to hardware every three years. Infoblox had a reputation as being one of the better solutions but also one of the more expensive solutions, whereas VitalQ was definitely a much more affordable solution. With Infoblox, anytime you replace hardware, there would also be the cost of the hardware upgrade. So, besides the software licensing fee, there were also hardware maintenance and hardware upgrade fees. I would rate it a 3 out of 10 in terms of pricing."
  • "I rate Infoblox IPAM’s pricing a seven out of ten, since their price is up there."
  • "Infoblox IPAM is a very expensive solution and it should improve. The solution is subscription-based, and the payments can be monthly or yearly. There are additional costs for more features, and the exact cost depends on the features you're using."
