Executive Summary
Updated on Apr 17, 2023

We performed a comparison between NinjaOne and Automox based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.

  • Ease of Deployment: Both of the solution’s deployments are described as straightforward and users of both note how fast and light the setup processes can be.
  • Features: NinjaOne features security monitoring, patch management, and remote support, all in a user-friendly interface. However, the backup and reporting features, as well as the language it uses for reports can be improved. Automox provides single-console patch management and automation and is flexible and intuitive to use. Its automation features and asset management features could be made better.
  • Pricing: NinjaOne is described as costly by some users, though it should be noted that its licensing can be negotiated to a lower price. Automox’s price is described as competitive.
  • Service and Support: Both technical teams are reviewed very positively, with users noting the support teams are knowledgeable, efficient, and fast to respond.
  • ROI: Users of both solutions see a return on investment in the form of reduced manual effort from their employees, spending fewer man-hours trying to understand how to roll out patches.

Comparison results: Based on the parameters we compared, Automox comes out ahead of NinjaOne. While both solutions offer valuable patch management and monitoring, NinjaOne’s inflexible backup features, the way it handles reports, as well as its high price, leave room for improvement.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's easy to deploy agents to endpoints.""Its flexibility is most valuable.""The flexibility in creating tools to make changes on remote machines is most valuable to me. The reporting feature is also fantastic because on any given day I can bring up a list of machines that don't have patches, for example. Or I can bring up a list of machines that are in my environment on a certain day. The solution helps me with not only my own role, and what I look for internally myself, but it also helps during audits. I can go in and look at the number of machines in there, and their owners and timelines. It certainly helps tell a story for anything that IT requires.""The fact that it's just one product that can patch multiple operating systems is really great.""The biggest improvement to our organization involves the reduction in its man hours... We've probably saved hundreds of hours.""It's super easy to use and we haven't found anything easier.""They've been adding some new features lately, which I'm not nearly as familiar with, but the ability to just deploy patches and exempt certain machines from certain patches is helpful. For instance, for our servers, we may not want to roll out zero-day patches. We are able to exempt those and make sure that they don't get those policies. We've got certain servers that have to run a particular version of Java, and being able to exempt those servers from receiving Java updates is pretty fantastic.""Among the most valuable features are its ease of use and the Worklets. Both of them are time-savers. Worklets enable us to customize things for a given environment. It's something like when Apple lets other people create applications. Other peoples' Worklets can be used in our environment and in our customers' environments. That saves a lot of time, and it's really cool."

"It just works as advertised and serves the purpose for which we got it.""The installation is easy, it only took two minutes.""NinjaOne has a feature where we can create custom scripts that we can run on devices remotely.""The most relevant feature is the monitoring, which provides built-in tools for sending commands.""We can use it for remote monitoring, and it also works great as a troubleshooting tool. We are able to open up a command line or a PowerShell session remotely without having to disrupt the user. They have a limited network device monitoring capability, but for workstation servers, we have the event logs. We can do performance monitoring, system changes, software deployment, and patch management. We can also push scripts. It has a very simple web interface. There are no additional things to do there. Security is also pretty good. It does the same things that the other competitor's tools do. One of the advantages of Ninja is that they have a more capable mobile app, which allows you to see the alerts immediately. I get alerted to major critical issues.""The most important aspect of this tool is the security it provides our company.""NinjaOne helps us view the status of software patching, whether the PC is locked or unlocked.""The solution's most valuable feature is related to its remote access...I know that NinjaOne's technical support is good."

Cons
"As concerns the patching concepts, there's a bit of a learning curve in terms of working out how Automox wants you to work within the console, not only splitting up everything into groups, but then having the various policies assigned.""The only thing that we've ever truly wanted is an onsite repository. Currently, all updates are provided directly from the internet. So, if you have 1,000 devices, all 1,000 devices go directly out to the internet. We would love the option of being able to put the updates on local storage so that we're not consuming as much bandwidth. That is literally the only thing that we've ever wanted.""There should be better inventory capabilities. Right now, they only allow you to have insight into software out-of-the-box. It would be nice to also extend that into custom inventory that can be modified and managed by the practitioner.""They need to improve the automation features.""Asset management would be a great feature to add to Automox. We would run easier scripts or more out of the box scripts that would help us in audits. \""We would like to see additional detailed reporting for Service providers like us. We had to build our own reports via their APIs to meet our needs.""It should have integrated workstation access. So, there should be a remote desktop feature.""The stability has come a long way from what it was like when it started and now it's really good."

More Automox Cons →

"The ticketing system in NinjaOne is not the best.""It can have more integrations with third-party providers, such as Deep Instinct. They do partner with certain antivirus or remote access tool partners, but they can increase their portfolio to have more choices.""I would like to see more scripts for PowerShell commands.""NinjaOne's reporting module is cumbersome.""NinjaOne's dashboard could be easier to use.""The reporting is lackluster. NinjaOne is great for maintaining systems, but it's hard to use it to understand the state that systems are in without going in and mining the information myself. I rate the reporting two out of 10.""Lacks sufficient integrations with other PSAs.""I wish that they integrated it with more antivirus solutions. Currently, they only push Defender, but it doesn't really have integration with SentinelOne. It also didn't integrate with Trend Micro, which we were using previously. I would also like to have more control from the mobile app. As of now, I am able to see some performance values, but I can't see, for example, disk activity or disk performance values. If they can improve their app a little bit, it would help greatly. They can also improve the tech interface. If I assign certain techs to a bunch of specific machines, they only get those alerts that they're assigned to."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "We are on the premium licensing, which is the one that has the API capability that we use."
  • "There are no additional costs in addition to the extended licensing fees with Automox. You get your support and your per endpoint license with what you purchased."
  • "For all these software tools, it is usually a subscription model. There is a monthly charge that we need to pass along to our clients because we are doing all this for their benefit. It is only a couple of bucks a month per computer, and that is a low enough price point where our clients, without exception, have accepted it, and said, "This is great. We will pay that. It sounds like a worthwhile thing.""
  • "The pricing and licensing costs have been great for us... My advice to others who are evaluating or thinking of implementing Automox is to give it a shot. If a free trial is still available, definitely use it, because it makes life a lot easier."
  • "The product is a great value."
  • "Automox just charges us a set amount per user, per month, for using the product. That is very important to us. Because it's a cloud-native solution, you're saving on the cost of hosting an on-premises solution on your servers."
  • "We're doing it annually directly through Automox. It is per endpoint. It is $2 and some change per endpoint, but I believe the cost is right around $28,000. Everything is covered in this fee."
  • "Its licensing for a year was nine grand. There was no additional fee."

  • "We got a pretty good deal. It was fairly affordable."
  • "Its pricing is great."
  • "NinjaRMM uses a subscription model."
  • "We currently pay $1.20 per device on a monthly basis."
  • "It roughly costs $400 a month. It provides a good value because of the number of tools that you get in the solution. I would rate it a four out of five in terms of pricing. There are no additional costs other than the standard licensing fees."
  • "The pricing is reasonable and cheaper than ConnectWise."
  • "NinjaOne is a little expensive but is still cheaper than competitors like Acronis or Veeam."
  • "I rate the solution’s pricing a five out of ten, where one is the lowest and ten is the most expensive."
