Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The main feature that I like the most is the variety of solutions that it provides. It provides some analysis, business information and more. It provides a wide variety of services.""The initial setup is easy. The deployment is fast.""We use AWS for multiple purposes, such as developing APIs and API integration using API Gateway. We use API Gateway, Python Combinator, Lambda Glue, and ETL Process. We have used EMR for big data processing. If we need a tool for computing, we go with the Lamda DMS. There are many services available in AWS that meet our needs.""The services that we are using have frequent updates, at least twice a year. They provide a new version that has more capabilities or features that fit our process and procedures.""One of the most valuable features is that Amazon AWS has a lot of data centers and regions where we can position our virtual machines for leverage. Amazon AWS is also easy to use. You can quickly spin up something, use Explorer, building proofs of concept, things like that. Once the proof of concept is built once and we know how things are going to look from a production perspective, we try to move everything to the data centers. These features and the ease of use are the main reasons why we use AWS.""Great scalability.""I like many features, like the recently released useful analytics features. There are many from the data analytics or database side.""For testing, it is a cheap alternative to having to build your own labs."

"The processes and the way we take advantage and use assistance are good.""The solution is stable and we have never had a problem. We started with one terabyte of data when the solution was first implemented and today we have around almost 600 gigabytes of data, which means means the compression works properly. Before migrating from ECC, we had nine terabytes of data.""We have a wide range of use cases for SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud. These include production planning, materials management, sales management, treasury, finance, appliance maintenance, real estate, and warehouse management.""The solution does provide quite a lot of support, upgrades, automated batch updates, etc.""The scalability is good because we have some cloud resources to support the ERP.""Ensuring data integrity across finance, supply chain, and other critical areas is paramount for real-time decision-making. Access to accurate and up-to-date information is essential for data protection. While the digital solution primarily serves basic maintenance, the ability to handle these core aspects efficiently is invaluable for your needs.""I am impressed with how the solution integrates with the ME system and ALE IDocs.""The solution's initial setup process is straightforward."

Cons
"IAM must be made simple and straightforward.""The pricing is reasonable but there is always room to be better.""Not all of the functionality is available in Europe and our customers in France want to be able to use features that are only available in the US.""The setup of the solution is not so easy, it requires various skills to complete it. The whole implementation can take a month.""They can launch the Oracle service in Azure, and we expect that this should be possible in Amazon AWS as well.""The cost of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required.""It could be made cheaper. I know we spend a lot of money each month on AWS.""Identity and access management on AWS could be straightforward."

More Amazon AWS Cons →

"The stability needs to be improved to be able to handle large amounts of data.""I would rate the stability a four out of ten. It's an area that could use improvement""The product must provide more details of the errors.""It needs improvement in terms of stability and performance.""The customer has a lot of dependencies on SAP which means they don't have much flexibility to go and update the system when or if they need to. They will need to wait for the quarterly updates. It's possible to maybe raise a special request with SAP if it is absolutely necessary.""The solution is scalable from an infrastructure point of view. However, it becomes more complex over time because technology is changing so fast.""Customization is an area of concern in SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud, where improvements are required.""The main thing is that SAP needs to give better response times for support tickets."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Be careful with your consumption, especially when you are testing things. Costs can creep up on you relatively fast, without even noticing."
  • "AWS is scalable depending on your needs so pricing is dependant on what you use."
  • "It is decently priced. The competition is also bringing its own cloud offerings, such as from Oracle."
  • "When we shifted the load to AWS we paid a high cost as the mail stores were hosted on EBS. The storage cost drastically reduced after moving to S3."
  • "If you can plan capacity for one or three years, you can use the upfront payment option which allows you to save up to 50%."
  • "One of the best thing in Amazon AWS is you are billed for the service you use."
  • "We are reducing costs year-over-year."
  • "Much faster than other solutions at a super low cost."
  • More Amazon AWS Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "If you choose the minimum, it will probably cost around $1,000 USD per month if you take a contract for a year or two."
  • "The licensing of the solution is on a yearly basis. The normal price of the solution is quite high, but I received a special discount by making a purchase near the end of the year."
  • "The solution could be less expensive."
  • "The price is expensive compared to the competition."
  • "The price is high compared to other databases, which is why HANA is still not widely used. Some enterprises prefer Sybase, Oracle, or other traditional databases because HANA is a little pricey. Cost is one factor SAP needs to work on to make it more competitive with other databases. Otherwise, they'll never be able to develop a mass customer base."
  • "Our pricing is based on a yearly contract."
  • "The pricing is reasonable when compared to other vendors like Oracle who offer technology enterprise resource software."
  • "The product itself is relatively expensive."

Amazon Web Services, Rackspace OpenStack, Microsoft Windows Azure and Google are the major cloud hosting and storage service providers. Athough Amazon is top of them and is oldest in cloud market, Rackspace, Microsoft and Google are giving tough competition to each other and to Amazon also for alluring IT customers. This article give brief history of these cloud hosting service providers and compares the cloud services provided by them. -- Amazon Web Services -- It's hard to find someone who doesn't agree that Amazon Web Services is the market leader in IaaS cloud computing. The company has one of the widest breadths of cloud services - including compute, storage, networking, databases, load balancers, applications and application development platforms all delivered as a cloud service. Amazon has dropped its prices 21 times since it debuted its cloud six years ago and fairly consistently fills whatever gaps it has in the size of virtual machine instances on its platform - the company recently rolled out new high-memory instances, for example. There are some cautions for Amazon though. Namely, its cloud has experienced three major outages in two years. One analyst, Jillian Mirandi of Technology Business Researcher, has suggested that continued outages could eventually start hindering businesses' willingness to invest in Amazon infrastructure. That sentiment gets to a larger point about AWS though - the service seems to be popular in the startup community, providing the IT… Read more →
