Affordable, easy to use, and integrates well with Active Directory
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features are two-factor authentication and real-time logon monitoring."
  • "The product and service are already great as it is but if I could add one feature, I guess it would be nice to have another factor of authentication (two additional factors) like your phone and a token for example, for when people forget their phone at home."

What is our primary use case?

We needed to strengthen our access security after being hit by a ransomware attack. Implementing two-factor authentication for all users was at the top of the priority list. We were looking for an affordable and easy-to-use 2FA solution.

For the Police Department, regulations and mandates already required the use of two factors to protect information. To comply, the Department had implemented Duo 2FA, but the solution wasn’t very easy to set up or user friendly. Therefore a new solution was sought that could be easily deployed across all user and administrative accounts, from all departments.

How has it helped my organization?

It is affordable, integrates easily with Active Directory, and is simple to install and maintain. It’s basically an IT Manager’s dream. Deployment and implementation were flawless. I received zero complaints from end-users.

UserLock has allowed us to have one single 2FA solution for all of our users. Its ease of use has saved the IT Department a lot of time onboarding and managing 2FA.

Real-time visibility allows us to see who’s connected, when and from where, and to react immediately in case of unusual events.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are two-factor authentication and real-time logon monitoring.

Two-factor authentication: UserLock can be configured to support various types of authenticators such as hardware security keys, mobile-based authentication, and programmable tokens. Because the police department patrol group is always on the move, we needed fast and convenient strong authentication. We chose the YubiKey from Yubico. Other users can choose between their smartphone and a programmable token called Token2.

Real-time logon monitoring: visibility to see who’s connected, when and from where, all us to react immediately in case of unusual events.

What needs improvement?

The product and service are already great as it is but if I could add one feature, I guess it would be nice to have another factor of authentication (two additional factors) like your phone and a token for example, for when people forget their phone at home.

It’s not that I mind not having two factors, but I do get that question from time to time from some of our users who think it would be really useful. From what I’ve heard, they’re working on it and it should be coming in the next version so that’s great news.

The user login insights are helpful
Pros and Cons
  • "We mainly implemented UserLock for multi-factor authentication, but the user login insights are also nice."
  • "I would like to see UserLock add the ability to automatically create a group policy in Active Directory. That might streamline the setup process."

What is our primary use case?

We needed a simple solution to enable admin multi-factor authentication on our internal Windows network, and a consultant recommended UserLock because he had previously implemented it at another company. UserLock also monitors logins on all tracked devices, telling you if the sign-in was successful or not.

How has it helped my organization?

We previously didn't have multi-factor authentication on our local admin access for our network. Now we do.

What is most valuable?

We mainly implemented UserLock for multi-factor authentication, but the user login insights are also nice.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see UserLock add the ability to automatically create a group policy in Active Directory. That might streamline the setup process.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've only been using UserLock for two months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We haven't had any stability issues yet.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I believe UserLock will be able to scale to match our projected growth in the next 10 years.

How are customer service and support?

I haven't had to contact support, so that's pretty good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We didn't have a solution for multi-factor authentication before.

How was the initial setup?

UserLock was pretty easy to set up and simple to use. The documentation covered everything. The entire deployment took around 30 minutes to an hour.

What about the implementation team?

The vendor worked with our in-house team.

What was our ROI?

I can't quantify the benefits, but UserLock provides added security that some of our client companies require for compliance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing was great compared to other products we looked at.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We looked a little at other options but nothing specific.

What other advice do I have?

I rate UserLock 10 out of 10. It has been a good experience so far.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
