Affordable, secures all devices, and helps users to access corporate resources from anywhere
The deployment model for Intune is cloud basically, but for other MDM solutions, it's on-prem because the government and healthcare sectors prefer to use the on-prem solution. The deployment duration depends on the project timeline and the complexity of the deployment. A fresh Intune deployment is straightforward. We just need to do the configuration and create configuration profiles. For example, for Windows OS, we can enroll 1,000 devices in a month or something like that depending on the availability of the machine. Everything is configured in the backend, so they just need to power on the device, and everything works as expected, and everything is pushed down. The number of people required depends on how many machines need to be deployed and users' availability. The model that we're having right now is that for a new device, it's straightaway delivered to the user. So, there is no involvement of IT because it's an autopilot deployment. When a user powers on a device, the configuration kicks in. The users just log in using their user accounts, and that's all. So, one IT person is enough to configure the backend.

Allows us to easily move items from one configuration to another
The initial setup was pretty straightforward. We had to work with our server team so that it was set up the way QC likes to have things set up. To set up the server, it took about a week or two, and that was more just a matter of coordinating. It was very reasonable. It took longer, on our side, to do the legal part. Our strategy has been to use SOTI to move away from MSP and to get legacy equipment operational, before trying to get anything new going. In terms of deployment, we've mostly had one person from each of our sites focused on this particular implementation. At some sites, the configuration changes more rapidly than at others.

Good virtualization, fair pricing, and responsive support
We have some problems with Workspace ONE. We have used the politic MDM for mobile, and it was probably one month before one account just removed it. It's likely an error from Samsung since this device gets updates from Samsung. Once an update happened, they remove this from the MDM platform from Workspace ONE. However, I could not track down the reason this happened. We'd like to see a better connection to Microsoft Azure and a better connection with Check Point. It's not completely stable. While we have some wrappers in the product, I don't usually find what I want. The two-factor identification process needs to be easier.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is a very stable and scalable cloud-only solution."
"The ability to switch between Affinity and non-Affinity enrollment is great."
"The most valuable includes managing everything from a single console."
"Microsoft Intune simplifies device management by replacing the traditional method of installing OS, joining a domain, and configuring everything manually."
"As the solution is a software as a service, the scalability is unlimited."
"Intune's most valuable features are the device, compliance, and configuration policies."
"The stability of Microsoft Intune is good."
"Intune provides full visibility into all active mobile device users. If their devices are noncompliant with our security policies, I have the flexibility to update them remotely."
"All features are useful. It is useful for preventing the use of unauthorized software on corporate-owned devices. It provides an option to lock the devices for unauthorized software. The devices can only be used under the supervision of the device manager."
"We use SOTI MobiControl for managing Android device management."
"The most valuable features are remote control, remote monitoring of the mobile phone data, GPS localization, automobile network management, identity management, speaker logging, and remote management of mobile content."
"One of the most valuable features is the remote control. If there are issues in the field, we can remote into those devices and see what kind of issues they are."
"The ease of access was awesome. The guys helping us out were pretty fluent in the product. I currently have two devices in a dashboard that we're testing, but the solution that they have is awesome. I like that it's a cloud-based based solution, and I think there will be some significant cost savings."
"SOTI MobiControl is the right solution for customers who want a reliable and low-cost MDM solution."
"It helps in enrolling, managing, and relocating the devices quickly."
"The remote control technology and screen-sharing absolutely help us resolve issues faster. If there is a remote user who has difficulties or does not understand an error or a problem or a crash, the support team can remote control the phone and see right away what is on the screen and act on the problem. We can debug, we can help, we can reboot the phone."
"The antivirus and the ability to push security policies down to the device are key features."
"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"Workspace ONE adds a lot of value compared to Microsoft because Microsoft is a late entry into the market, and they're still developing their product from an end-user perspective. Workspace ONE has a slight edge because of AirWatch. VMware has developed its product over a longer period of time, so they have better integrations as a whole solution."
"The solution was easy to deploy."
"The solution has a lot of capabilities, and it is easy to manage and customize."
"The solution is stable."
"Good device management and good integration with third parties."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is the multi-platform support."

Cons

"There's quite a lot of development that they can do within their Intune dashboard. I think there are too many lines hyperlinked to move you around. Others, in contrast, give you a simple dashboard and an intuitive administrative walkthrough."
"It should be easier to define policies and comply with those policies."
"The reporting could be improved, as it's pretty poor compared to other products of this type."
"Technical support is not that great."
"The policies we had in SCCM and AD offered features that are missing from Microsoft Intune."
"The solution requires Mac support."
"The pricing can be expensive if you are not combining it with other products."
"I'm still playing around with it and haven't had any issues with the product yet, but support can definitely be improved."
"Reporting could be better. When I try to run a report, it doesn't have a filter or even a feature where I can choose what I have in the report. That's been a struggle since the first time I used it so I just don't touch it anymore."
"I wish that I had some more tutorials and educational resources on how to use the product."
"The main feature that we would like to have with Soti is the ability to push an iOS update without having people come to my office. That is the main reason why we went with Soti. And that feature is not working on my version."
"There is room for improvement in the support."
"There is room for improvement when it comes to the ability to customize devices and choosing what information goes onto them."
"They should improve the lockdown feature."
"SOTI MobiControl could improve by being more user-friendly."
"SOTI MobiControl's user interface is very tough to handle and should be made more user-friendly."
"it's very dependent on an active directory"
"The Content Locker cannot inherit permissions for the Windows Public Folder. If they could integrate with Microsoft on this point, it would be the perfect functionality."
"There could be ease of integration within the environment. I didn't have any issues when using it, but the integration part was a bit difficult for the other team."
"I would like to see more service notifications."
"The application itself individuals are getting annoyed with it. They are looking to integrate with ABB applications regardless of whether it is Android or iOS based. We are wanting to shift from this application because of the integration issues we are facing."
"Pricing is the only challenge right now. The licensing fee should be simplified a little bit. They have kept too many products as add ons. These need to be bundled with the low-cost, standard version. This will help customers in adopting this technology at a faster pace."
"Windows 10 management is there, but VMware only recently developed that part, and it's not fully mature. Patch management and other integrations are there as well as the application-pushing part, command line, mandatory commands, etc. Some out-of-the-box solutions should be available to better integrate a broader range of applications and handle application push. That's the roadmap we should look at."
"The product's initial setup phase was quite complex."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"If you ask the accountant or the finance department, they'll tell you that it is way too expensive, but when I look at the cost and compare it with the value you actually get, it's more than fair."
"The price is reasonable, but they should lower it a bit to make it more competitive. It's cheaper than AirWatch and other products, but I still feel like Microsoft can make a base version or with Exchange online or a la carte only Intune version which will be useful. A customer who doesn't want to go full-fledged E3 or E5 can take out or consume an Intune solution only for their purpose, and we want to target that customer."
"Microsoft Intune's pricing is reasonable."
"The pricing is not cheap, especially with inflation. They've had to increase their prices. It's not excessive, but alright."
"The licensing is on a yearly basis."
"For organizations that are a Microsoft shop, the pricing is compelling."
"Its price is fair. It's a normal price. It isn't too expensive or too cheap."
"We don't pay for Intune because it is bundled with the premium subscription to Office 365. It includes Intune and Defender. I don't have to buy two extra products to manage my enterprise."
"It's a little bit expensive."
"The price is average. SOTI manages the price according to the type of client they have. I would rate the cost as five out of ten."
"I thought pricing was kind of high, but I believe that Soti is probably the best out there for this type of software, so there's not much I can do about that. The licensing is annual, per device."
"It is an expensive product."
"SOTI MobiControl is a cheap solution."
"The pricing is reasonable and the licensing model is very reasonable when compared to some of the competitors in the market. I can speak directly regarding Intune, which is very expensive compared to SOTI."
"SOTI's pricing seems to be competitive."
"You need to secure a license on a per-device basis."
"The tool is expensive."
"For big users, it's around $500."
"VMware Workspace ONE has a yearly license. You have to buy the license for one year at a time."
"I think the pricing of the product needs advisement. It would be great to bundle the VM products together. I think the actual box itself should be included in the license. At present, it is not paired with the mobile device."
"A person should pay towards the licensing costs of VMware Identity Manager on a yearly or monthly basis, but government and public sector units cannot for a perpetual licensing model."
"For most of the projects, we use the standard license but for complex ones, we use the older type of processes, integrations, and licenses inside the solution."
"You should take out a dedicated license agreement of your MDM fleet and invest heavily in innovating in this space."
"The solution can be costly when the customer is dealing with multiple platforms. If a customer is only dealing with iOS, Windows, and Android then Intune is the better choice because there are free licenses."
