Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The StarWind Virtual SAN provides a clever and unique solution to the Computing Split Brain problem.""In the three years that we have been using StarWind, the product has yet to cause us any problems.""StarWind allows us to move virtual machines from one physical host to another, which greatly reduces the downtime required for maintenance.""The solution is also quite flexible. As an example, other vSAN solutions that we looked at had more stringent requirements regarding mixed HDD/SSD storage which wouldn't have worked in our environment.""The support has been amazing and quick to reply.""High Availability is the best feature of product.""It includes every feature that a traditional SAN offers and so much more.""The fact that we can expand our storage and add on to our compute nodes easily and how amazing the StarWind technical support team is really adding value to our purchase."

More StarWind Virtual SAN Pros →

"Acropolis AOS's networking concept is excellent.""The solution remains stable across versions.""The flexibility of this system is very good. It's also faster than others, and has skilled technical support who showed more initiative than a competitor, e.g. VMware.""The most valuable features are easy cloud administration and management.""You can be sure that whatever you patch is already compatible with the current firmware and the current version of the Acropolis that you're using.""Nutanix Acropolis AOS has very good stability.""The most valuable features of Nutanix Acropolis AOS are ease of management, hyper-convergence platform, and it has robust operations.""The dashboard of Nutanix Acropolis AOS allows for simple management. The dashboard has all the information online about what's going on at any given time."

"It's been a stable solution.""It is easy to deploy.""In addition to the virtualization, the firewall and the routing functions that it provides are valuable.""It has a good performance and you can cluster it.""We are happy with Proxmox VE. We use it as part of a cluster.""The solution is extremely scalable.""I like that it's secure, and I find its Software RAID very useful. It's way better than the Hardware RAID I was used to. Cons
"The only way I can see this product needing improvement is the consultation level of the StarWind sales and engineers.""I had issues locating the documentation that applied to my version of StarWind vSAN.""The configuration can a bit cumbersome.""I would like them to invest time in reducing the complexity of the startup and shutdown procedure.""The only point they should improve is the amount of documentation available for the user, especially in the first preliminary phase in which we were testing the product on our own.""They need to invest more in the support documents for real issues happening when integrating the solution with the hypervisor.""I wish the sync after a failure, such as hardware failure or power-related issues, for example, was faster.""It would be nice to see a new UI for the windows client, as it is not the easiest to find settings."

More StarWind Virtual SAN Cons →

"An area for improvement would be the cyber security features.""Storage utilization and optimization should be better.""The self-service side of the product needs to be improved. We should be able to add two-factor authentication and more security layers to it.""Deployment could be more user-friendly - currently, it requires certain skills with the network and nodes.""I would like them to update their licensing to provide more features with their basic license.""Setup can be a little difficult""As Nutanix Acropolis AOS is on the expensive side, one of its areas for improvement is the price. It would also be better if it can be integrated with other cloud providers, because currently, it's only for private cloud deployment.""Nutanix could streamline Acropolis' advanced management to keep pace with its competitors. For example, in VMware vSphere ESXi Hypervisor, you can directly put a host into maintenance mode via the GUI. However, it takes several steps to do this with Nutanix Acropolis, and you need to use the command-line interface for most of the steps."

More Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI) Cons →

"Proxmox VE can improve the management of virtual discs. For example, if my virtual disc is 200 GB and I want to decrease it is not easy. I have to do a lot of things to decrease the size of existing virtual machines. If the Proxmox VE team can make it easy for customers to instantly increase or decrease the virtual machine hard disc, it will be very helpful for me. However, the containers I can do it easily.""It might be interesting to have the ability to integrate with other cloud solutions.""The documentation in Proxmox VE could improve.""Backup and recovery could be better. It's a bit problematic. If you're not well-versed with Linux, it tends to be a bit of a challenge when setting up and recovering. It's not really GUI-based, and if you're not a good Linux user, it becomes a bit difficult. In the next release, I would like to have something like Hyper-V's Data Protection Manager, where you could do an offsite backup and keep a copy. I haven't seen that incorporated yet, but I'm sure they will do that.""The only disadvantage of Proxmox VE is that it is a young solution so it does have some bugs.""Proxmox VE can improve by importing OVF or OVA files directly from OVA. I need to convert all the images to raw images before importing them to Proxmox VE. If there is a solution that I can import directly from VMDK, it would be better.""A feature which should be added is the ability to encrypt the main installation.""The only issue I have with Proxmox VE is updating it. You have to manually update it or you have to have a way to update it automatically."

  • "StarWind is a low-cost, full-featured alternative to the traditional SAN environment, and their support will guide you every step of the setup."
  • "The support contract is well worth it. The price for it was very reasonable and their team has been very engaged whenever we reach out."

  • "There is a license required for this solution and my clients usually purchase a two-year license with extended support. The price of the solution could be reduced, it is more expensive than competitors."
  • "The price of the solution is high."
  • "The pricing is quite good in comparison with HPE SimpliVity, Nutanix Scale, and even traditional architecture."
  • "When compared to the competitors, the price is reasonable."

  • "We got the renewal done recently, and there was no cost involved."
  • "The price of the solution could improve. Nutanix has recently changed its pricing model from perpetual to subscription. They have identified there are challenges with the pricing model."
  • "This product is expensive, but they do have discounts. At one point, I saw that they were giving a 70% or 80% discount, which is a good thing, but maybe they should have a more realistic price and then a 5% to 10% discount."

  • "It's an open-source solution that can be used free of cost."
  • "Because I'm using Proxmox VE for personal use and it's an AGPL license project, I can use it at home for free."
  • "Proxmox is free."
  • "The way the licensing of Proxmox is structured, you can use it for free. It is an open-source solution, and you can use it for free, but if you do need support, then you have to pay for the support. So, you can use it in a way that you don't have to pay anything, which is a plus point for me. For people or users who have huge and more intense use cases, the advice or the recommendation is to always pay for support. In case something goes wrong, you can fall back on the team that will attend to your request. For me, at the moment, the cost is zero."
  • "To use Proxmox VE there is not a license required. However, you can purchase a support license, which you access, but it doesn't change the functionality of the solution."
  • "Proxmox VE is affordable. It's cheaper than Hyper-V, Huawei Desktop Protocol, and Huawei Desktop Cloud."
  • "There is an annual license to use Proxmox VE and it is approximately $90. There are not any additional costs."
  • "This is a free open-source solution."

    Overview

For SMB, ROBO, Cloud and Hosting providers, who look to cut down virtualization expenses, our solution is StarWind VSAN. It is software that eliminates any need in physical shared storage by basically “mirroring” internal hard disks and flash between hypervisor servers. There is less hardware to buy in general, consequently less money is spent on purchase and maintenance. The existing hardware is used with maximum efficiency, so there is no money wasted at all.

StarWind Virtual SAN targets those who already have servers, or are bound to a particular vendor list to buy from. In case there is a new virtualization infrastructure to be built from scratch, StarWind offers a much better way – StarWind HyperConverged Appliance. It is a turnkey solution complete with hardware and software, powered by StarWind Virtual SAN. Those who need to build and maintain virtualization infrastructure at little to no expense, may be interested in StarWind Virtual SAN Free.
