We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The value of Icinga is that it has hundreds of plugins, so it's really easy to monitor pretty much anything."

More Icinga Pros →

"It meets my organizational needs. It's pretty easy to use.""There is a problems page that shows us every warning or problem that occurs on our VMs globally. The map screen is also really useful because this is something that was missing. I don't know every other tool in the market. So, I don't know if this is a good point of only Zabbix, or other tools are also doing it, but from my point of view, this is the most useful page that I use, along with the problems page that efficiently lists the problem, recovery time, ending hours, starting hours, and so on.""Zabbix is quite stable once it is set up. We haven't had any post-setup issues.""We have found that Zabbix is more easy to use than other applications.""SNMP monitoring, source discovery, and alert triggering are most valuable.""The overall functionality of Zabbix is very good. The monitoring of bank applications that Zabbix provides is great. The information is displayed on a dashboard that is easily viewed.""Zabbix is very easy to implement.""It is a great product. The SNMP protocol tracking feature is good. I really like how it tracks SNMP. The alerts are also great."

Cons
"In general, the product does not look good. However, it does what it is supposed to do. So, the improvements should focus on usability and UI."

More Icinga Cons →

"Zabbix isn't a great tool for cloud-specific monitoring - its connection to public clouds needs to be improved. Other areas for improvement would be the lack of dashboards and integrations.""Zabbix claims that there is an auto-discovery process but my team member was facing difficulty and was told that it's not really automatic, and there are some manual steps.""Correlation of events would be a wonderful addition.""In terms of user-friendliness, large maps could be more interactive. We should be able to click on some areas and move some objects. It would make it simpler to see things while analyzing some dedicated parameters.""Zabbix does not draw automatic mapping of the network, this is something they should add in the future. There is a lot of effort that is involved in tailoring some of the settings which could be made easier.""If you want to use all of the features then you have to pay a licensing fee.""I would like to see a more flexible mobile client, and better HA out of the box.""We would like to monitor other touchpoints such as ATM machines. It would be great if it can provide monitoring of ATM machines. Compatibility with other products would also be great."

  • "This is an open-source solution that can be used free of charge."
  • "We were searching for an open source solution and Zabbix fit the bill because it is free and open source under the GPL license."
  • "The solution is free. However, many open-sourced tools start out free but eventually start charging."
  • "Its licensing is fair. It seems to be much cheaper than others."
  • "It is open source. If you want to have a subscription or official support, you can pay for it. They have different plans, which are not that expensive. The plans are based on per monitoring server, not per monitored equipment. So, it is not at all expensive, and you can also live without the support if you want a cheaper option."

When our customers have some custom applications that are not necessarily covered by the community or a standard monitoring tool, we use Zabbix to build our own modules with our own templates. This feature has been useful in using Zabbix for infrastructure and IT monitoring. It has also been useful for industrial equipment monitoring. Zabbix is very lightweight. It is efficient in terms of performance because it doesn't use a lot of resources."
