Systems monitoring enhanced by firewall and intrusion detection features
My primary use case for Fortinet FortiSIEM is systems monitoring and alerting. I use it for standard functions like log monitoring, incident detection, and notification.  My customers are mostly medium-sized enterprises ranging from engineering companies, mining companies, independent schools, and…

Seamless connectivity and comprehensive control over network devices
All of the features we are looking for are already in control. I think those features, which we are not currently utilizing, are already there. For example, the control for the cameras and everything else. The cameras are not connected through Meraki, but all other devices are on Meraki networks.

I use the solution to provide a perfect environment for remote connectivity with my clients. Many tools that I require for system maintenance are included. I can easily monitor all of my clients throughout the world I did not give much thought to it, however, improvements could be made to Zabbix.…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The stability is very reliable. It offers very good performance."
"The primary valuable feature is that it has replaced a whole lot of other products with one platform."
"The tool's most valuable feature stems from the fact that I can see a complete analysis, like all the incidents that have happened, and it detects everything in real-time."
"The most valuable feature is the anomaly-reporting alarms."
"These aspects make Fortinet FortiSIEM a valuable choice."
"Both the collecting logs and duo correlation are valuable features for us."
"Technical support is helpful."
"The most valuable feature of Fortinet FortiSIEM is the user and entity behave as analytics(UEBA). This feature mixes your data and provides useful information based on the behavior of the targeted."
"It's really user-friendly."
"It can analyze the traffic that it is picking up from what may be a rogue access point, and it is able to identify those and send relevant notifications."
"There is no need to swap the hardware at all the locations, and importing the APs into the Dashboard was a simple and quick process."
"Some of the features I have found valuable are the ease of access, simple configuration, and monitoring."
"The most valuable feature is knowing the wireless and switch are healthy."
"The feature I find most valuable is the single pane of glass where you can configure a monitor view, all from one dashboard. For example, on the wireless side, you can configure it under the configuration panel, and then view statistics like location analytics, user analytics, etc."
"Easy to configure with great troubleshooting feature."
"The solution scales well."
"The most valuable function for me is the auto-discovery of interfaces in devices. When you integrate devices into the tool, it automatically finds the interfaces, which is very helpful for my job. Integration and configuration run smoothly in my experience with Juniper and Aruba devices."
"Our customers also like that they don't have to use multiple modules. Micro Focus and major vendors typically require you to buy several modules and plugins. Our customers do not like that. We offer them a single product for all their monitoring needs."
"I use the solution to provide a perfect environment for remote connectivity with my clients."
"The best feature is that Zabbix can report everything, and everything in Zabbix is free."
"The initial setup was not complex."
"The most valuable feature is the support for monitoring Cisco switches."
"The product is very stable."
"Zabbix is an excellent performance monitoring tool."

Cons

"The stability of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"The UI could improve in Fortinet FortiSIEM. Humans view the UI frequently for data and if it was more visually pleasing it would be beneficial."
"The solution's interface could be modernized and improved."
"Its training can be improved. Its price also needs to be improved."
"When our team tried configuring logs for Microsoft SQL, it did not work."
"The product does not have Security Orchestration and Automation Response, I would recommend adding this feature."
"Fortinet FortiSIEM should broaden its remediation part to include more features for incident management. Currently, to manage repetitive incidents or for remediation, I need to use a separate software called FortiSOAR."
"The biggest thing that could be better is a quicker response to support cases."
"Some features could be added."
"There needs to be more improvement on the device-connected interface."
"In general, how I add firewall rules is not great. It is just a little bit too simple the way it is right now."
"It would be helpful to have the ability to create a floor plan based on an existing PDF or JPEG, which is automatically converted into a usable network map."
"What needs improvement in Meraki Dashboard is its configuration. It'll also be better if the tool has more functionality, and that is what I'd like to see in its next release."
"The downside to the simplicity is that you can't get as granular as you could with the Cisco APs."
"For instance, you should be able to see if something has been blocked by a firewall rule by looking at a live log of traffic moving through the device. It helps you troubleshoot issues and understand if your rules are working. You need to ensure the firewall is blocking the right things. That's unavailable in the Meraki Dashboard. You have to send the logs to a log server. We use SolarWinds locally, but it's not natively built into Meraki. We're also using Cisco ISA and another tool called Smoothwall."
"We would like to be able to test the health of WAN connections."
"The only issue we have had with Zabbix is when we decided to make an update or upgrade."
"Zabbix does not draw automatic mapping of the network, this is something they should add in the future. There is a lot of effort that is involved in tailoring some of the settings which could be made easier."
"If you want to use all of the features then you have to pay a licensing fee."
"The dashboard and the graph section could be a little bit more professional."
"I think the reporting part of Zabbix can be improved in terms of more user-friendly graphics to display the collected data. Many simple users who don't know how to use Zabbix properly might get confused by the reporting, although at the same time it is very versatile for my company."
"Look and feel."
"Zabbix can use better documentation and support for troubleshooting."
"The initial setup could be complex if you don't have templates. If creating templates from scratch, it's quite difficult, but if you are using already pre-created templates and setups for your needs, it looks very good."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing charges attached to the product. The free version license of the product is available for two months."
"If one is cheap and ten is expensive. I rate the tool's price as an eight out of ten. Compared with Splunk or Oracle, Fortinet is cheap."
"This is probably more on the lower cost end of the spectrum compared to competing products. Fortinet's license model is based on events per second, which makes sense, but that's not typical. It makes it very hard to calculate what your costs are going to be as you scale the platform because some log sources, such as firewall logs, are very noisy, and there are lots and lots of events per second, but some of them are not. So, it becomes a bit of a science experiment trying to guess what your costs are going to be as you scale the solution. This is where other competing products perhaps have a more straightforward license model."
"They have a yearly subscription."
"The price of the solution is expensive. The license is scalable. If there are 10 devices it is simple to license."
"Pricing is acceptable for more than 90% of our customers, as they normally get discounts."
"Please be cheaper and more simplified."
"The price of Fortinet FortiSIEM was reasonable compared to other solutions."
"Licensing is around under 1000 pounds. The licensing is either one year, three years, five years or ten years and during the licensing, we can choose to renew it per year or per every three years. We've got a license for three years. It's about 160 or about 200 pounds each."
"Meraki Dashboard's pricing is reasonable. It is sold yearly, typically for one, three, or five years. I rate its pricing a five out of ten."
"It is said to be expensive."
"I’m not sure of the exact cost, however, it’s my understanding the Meraki WiFi is around $800. That’s for a three-year license. It’s about $150 a year."
"Licensing for Meraki Dashboard is paid every year, and it's on a per-device model that costs roughly $300 to $400 per device, but that comes with full support and troubleshooting, etc. Compared to similar products, Meraki Dashboard is quite high-end, but the costs you pay are all-in."
"Licensing fees are paid on a yearly basis."
"The licensing fees are $180 USD, per AP, for three years."
"Typically, the license model is for one, three, and five years. They can just be a bit more flexible around it and look into providing an option for 24 months."
"This is an open-source solution that can be used free of charge."
"My manager is very happy because it doesn't cost anything."
"We purchased Zabbix for a good price, including support"
"The product is an open source and free solution."
"We pay the subscription for support by year."
"Zabbix is free but if you use it in production then you have to pay for it."
"It is freeware. We still use the free version of Zabbix."
"Zabbix and Grafana are both open source products, we only needed to go to their website and download the application and we began to use them. The solutions are free."
