Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Devo helps us to unlock the full power of our data because they have more than 450 parsers, which means that we can ingest pretty much any type of log data.""The user experience [is] well thought out and the workflows are logical. The dashboards are intuitive and highly customizable.""One of the biggest features of the UI is that you see the actual code of what you're doing in the graphical user interface, in a little window on the side. Whatever you're doing, you see the code, what's happening. And you can really quickly switch between using the GUI and using the code. That's really useful.""Devo has a really good website for creating custom configurations.""The thing that Devo does better than other solutions is to give me the ability to write queries that look at multiple data sources and run fast. Most SIEMs don't do that. And I can do that by creating entity-based queries. Let's say I have a table which has Okta, a table which has G Suite, a table which has endpoint telemetry, and I have a table which has DNS telemetry. I can write a query that says, 'Join all these things together on IP, and where the IP matches in all these tables, return to me that subset of data, within these time windows.' I can break it down that way.""Scalability is one of Devo's strengths.""The querying and the log-retention capabilities are pretty powerful. Those provide some of the biggest value-add for us.""The strength of Devo is not only in that it is pretty intuitive, but it gives you the flexibility and creativity to merge feeds. The prime examples would be using the synthesis or union tables that give you phenomenal capabilities... The ability to use a synthesis or union table to combine all those feeds and make heads or tails of what's going on, and link it to go down a thread, is functionality that I hadn't seen before."

"ScienceLogic allows us to create and customize a user-friendly dashboard.""The tool is quite easy to deploy, and it offers very good support.""It is very easy to configure because we are using an agent-less version. You can very quickly implement a collector for monitoring device servers.""The most valuable features of ScienceLogic are AI and machine learning.""I'm satisfied with ScienceLogicfor for what they can offer today because they can offer both serverless connectivity and agent connectivity.""Best feature of all is detailed monitoring of services, processes, ports and SSL certificates and or web content.""It has good monitoring capabilities across cloud environments, data centers, and hybrid environments.""It is simple."

Cons
"The price is one problem with Devo.""There are some issues from an availability and functionality standpoint, meaning the tool is somewhat slow. There were some slow response periods over the past six to nine months, though it has yet to impact us terribly as we are a relatively small shop. We've noticed it, however, so Devo could improve the responsiveness.""The Activeboards feature is not as mature regarding the look and feel. Its functionality is mature, but the look and feel is not there. For example, if you have some data sets and are trying to get some graphics, you cannot change anything. There's just one format for the graphics. You cannot change the size of the font, the font itself, etc.""From our experience, the Devo agent needs some work. They built it on top of OS Query's open-source framework. It seems like it wasn't tuned properly to handle a large volume of Windows event logs. In our experience, there would definitely be some room for improvement. A lot of SIEMs on the market have their own agent infrastructure. I think Devo's working towards that, but I think that it needs some improvement as far as keeping up with high-volume environments.""Devo has a lot of cloud connectors, but they need to do a little bit of work there. They've got good integrations with the public cloud, but there are a lot of cloud SaaS systems that they still need to work with on integrations, such as Salesforce and other SaaS providers where we need to get access logs.""Some of the documentation could be improved a little bit. A lot of times it doesn't go as deep into some of the critical issues you might run into. They've been really good to shore us up with support, but some of the documentation could be a little bit better.""There's always room to reduce the learning curve over how to deal with events and machine data. They could make the machine data simpler.""There's room for improvement within the GUI. There is also some room for improvement within the native parsers they support. But I can say that about pretty much any solution in this space."

More Devo Cons →

"It was challenging onboarding users.""We want to understand: how does the back end work? What if some problem occurs? What we can do? They need to provide more information.""ScienceLogic does not have application monitoring. We definitely need something integrated within ScienceLogic to monitor applications so that we don't have to rely on monitoring tools to monitor other applications. At least the ones that are market leaders, such as SAP, Oracle, and others.""Admins do not have direct access to the reporting.""The product's reporting functionalities have certain shortcomings, making it an area where improvements are required.""One important area we feel could be improved is the UI. It takes a lot of clicks to do very simple tasks.""They should improve database issues in HA and Failover mode, and provide documentation for all users , even if they are not customers.""They should add CLI command modes and scripts for high performance."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It's a per gigabyte cost for ingestion of data. For every gigabyte that you ingest, it's whatever you negotiated your price for. Compared to other contracts that we've had for cloud providers, it's significantly less."
  • "We have an OEM agreement with Devo. It is very similar to the standard licensing agreement because we are charged in the same way as any other customer, e.g., we use the backroom."
  • "I'm not involved in the financial aspect, but I think the licensing costs are similar to other solutions. If all the solutions have a similar cost, Devo provides more for the money."
  • "Devo is definitely cheaper than Splunk. There's no doubt about that. The value from Devo is good. It's definitely more valuable to me than QRadar or LogRhythm or any of the old, traditional SIEMs."
  • "[Devo was] in the ballpark with at least a couple of the other front-runners that we were looking at. Devo is a good value and, given the quality of the product, I would expect to pay more."
  • "Be cautious of metadata inclusion for log types in pricing, as there are some "gotchas" with that."
  • "Devo was very cost-competitive... Devo did come with that 400 days of hot data, and that was not the case with other products."
  • "Our licensing fees are billed annually and per terabyte."
  • More Devo Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Pricing between the two is quiet large therefore you can save some money if you don't require to collect all info on each device."
  • "Decide what you want to monitor and only monitor those items. Absorb other elements as you grow."
  • "Plan for adding more to it. Once you see EM7 in action, you will want to keep adding systems to monitor."
  • "It comes with the OS built in, so no need to purchase an OS license or DB license."
  • "Its price could be lower, but for what you pay, you got a lot of value from its features and functionalities. Customers always want a discount or a cheaper solution."
  • "The pricing model for ScienceLogic could improve."
  • "The solution is license-based. It's between $8 and $15, depending on what you need from the product."
  • "I'm not the best person to discuss pricing, but what I do know is that it's a use-and-go structure. You use this much storage and pay this much for it. That's how it is. Every time, we continue to add a large amount of data to the environment."
