Has improved incident response with better root cause visibility and supports flexible on-call scheduling
Datadog needs to introduce more hard limits to cost. If we see a huge log spike, administrators should have more control over what happens to save costs. If a service starts logging extensively, I want the ability to automatically direct that log into the cheapest log bucket. This should be the case with many offerings. If we're seeing too much APM, we need to be aware of it and able to stop it rather than having administrators reach out to specific teams. Datadog has become significantly slower over the last year. They could improve performance at the risk of slowing down feature work. More resources need to go into Fleet Automation because we face many problems with things such as the Ansible role to install Datadog in non-containerized hosts. We mainly want to see performance improvements, less time spent looking at costs, the ability to trust that costs will stay reasonable, and an easier way to manage our agents. It is such a powerful tool with much potential on the horizon, but cost control, performance, and agent management need improvement. The main issues are with the administrative side rather than the actual application.

Can be used to monitor a specific log or do specific actions, but its initial setup is not so easy
I have some customers using SolarWinds Log Analyzer to put some conditions on monitoring information from Windows servers and Linux servers. They use SolarWinds Log Analyzer to see if these conditions appear, and if they appear, generate a notification so that they can investigate what happened…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I like the amount of tooling and the number of solutions they sold with their monitoring. Datadog was highly intuitive to use."
"The dashboards are great."
"The most valuable aspect of the solution is the APM."
"Datadog's seamless integration with Slack and PagerDuty helped us to receive alerts right to the most common notification methods we use (our mobile devices and Slack)."
"Straightforward to integrate and automate."
"The ease of dashboard creation and alarm monitoring has helped us not only stay competitive but be industry leaders in performance."
"The product has offered increased visibility via logging APM, metrics, RUM, etc."
"Datadog has positively impacted my organization by helping us make our web portals more efficient, and as we get the agent installed on more devices, it's really provided us visibility that we haven't had in my entire career with Ace Hardware."
"SolarWinds Log Analyzer works for specific conditions, like when someone needs to monitor a specific log or do specific actions."

Cons

"I spent longer than I should have figuring out how to correlate logs to traces, mostly related to environmental variables."
"While the documentation is very good, there are areas that need a lot of focus to pick up on the key details."
"We would love to see a % consumed and alert us if we are over budget before getting an overage charge 20 days into the month."
"I'm not sure what kind of features are in the roadmap right now, but I encourage the development of features for defining your organization, and allowing the visibility of what kind of metrics you can get. Those features would be really useful for us."
"I would appreciate seeing it as an app or mobile app for quicker issue tracking."
"More granular control over dashboard sharing. Timeboard sharing."
"We have contact with many customers that cover many areas, so we have cases where the infrastructure administration could be improved."
"Deploying the agents is still very manual."
"SolarWinds Log Analyzer should deliver more integrated products so you can manage the console and easily configure the solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Our licensing fees are paid on a monthly basis."
"The cost is high and this can be justified if the scale of the environment is big."
"It didn't scale well from the cost perspective. We had a custom package deal."
"At my last company, we did see ROI, specifically around response time. We could get to mission critical things that were down and losing revenue on immediately. So, the product paid itself back."
"Pricing is somewhat affordable compared to other solutions but in order to really lower the costs of other products you need to plan very carefully your resources usage, otherwise, it can get expensive real quick."
"Pricing and licensing are reasonable for what they give you. You get the first five hosts free, which is fun to play around with. Then it's about four dollars a month per host, which is very affordable for what you get out of it. We have a lot of hosts that we put a lot of custom metrics into, and every host gives you an allowance for the number of custom metrics."
"They prefer monthly subscriptions."
"Pricing seemed easy until the bill came in and some things were not accounted for."
"SolarWinds Log Analyzer is a cheap product."
